RM88 I think your current speed was 1Mbps. Actually, I heard the quality was depend to how far your house from the unifi cabinet. you can check with your neighbors who install unifi about their performance.

You should check the unifi availability at your area first at tm point (I think you can check it online). Not all area at klang valley can use unifi.

Added on August 19, 2011, 3:00 pmYou can check unifi availability at http://www.unifi.my/unifi/index.php?option...id=63&Itemid=91

Well, if you know how to check your modem for SNR and Line Attenuation value then you're ok, SNR should above 20 best for up to 4Mbps and Line Attenuation should below 35 for best performance.
If you don't know anything about even your modem, just call up TM and tell them you want to upgrade, provide them subscriber detail, phone number for StreamyX, name, IC, etc. then they'll go to your house to check for availability, if it pass then he can activate for you on the spot and you can start using it within 3 days.

UniFi on the other hand is still new, it'll take a while for them to become stable like StreamyX now, last time StreamyX also everyday down, unstable, and lots of rebates for early subscribers to compensate the inconvenience. sweat.gif
First StreamyX package is only 384Kbps/128Kbps if anyone still remember, but the Hotmail page open like it open from local computer, it was that fast, even with such slow speed... was enjoyed that for 1 year+ before they decide to expand and congested like today doh.gif

Change it. No matter bad unifi is, fiber is fiber. Near future (sooner or later) you will upgrade to fiber anyway. Might as well do it now (got benefits) such as no quota implement yet.

But i still wonder why if there is already unifi whats the purpose for tm to still promote the streamyx 4mbps?
Its not fiber optix and still part of the dynamic congested line
i live in keramat area of klang valley and according to tm's customer service peoples, my area is at the edge of the unifi coverage circle
hahahhaa...i plan to upgrade but perhaps to 4mbps rather than unifi

what are your thoughts
no one else in my area pakai unifi yet

It depends if your area can support 4Mbps. If unifi covers your area may as well get unifi or wait a while. For RM9 more you get an extra 1Mbps, symmetrical upload and download speed and IPTV. Also you can upgrade to higher speed next time if you want (VIP5--> VIP10-->VIP20) but 4Mbps for Streamyx is the end of the road.

4Mbps Streamyx is not the end of the road, in fact most people in my area don't even bother to upgrade, as they are enjoying unlimited access unlike Unifi, even though right now there is no limit but you never know when. Having Unifi is like having a Bugatti Veyron that can go 400++ kmh, but the fuel can only last for 10 minutes smile.gif

The quota limit won't be the last of TM bright ideas. After that if they run into further bandwidth shortages and need for more revenues, they'll start offering nonsense such as buy extra data for XX amount of money...etc.
You can see from totally FREE service, it went with to premium tv channels offering, then no more free installation....etc.

They can't even get their 4mbps correctly done so how to advance further with Unifi?

Actually for ISP, implement Unifi is easier and more focus, than ensure customer can get 4mbps over streamyx.

Streamyx takeup rates are still surpassing Unifi subscription as reported in TM's latest quarterly report.

http://biz.thestar.com.my/news/story.asp?f...10&sec=business

The implementation of Unifi involves forcing customers to subscribe to internet, TV and phone services all together.
It's true that requires more focus but no way it's easier.

The maintenance is far too costly and involves more highly skilled installers, installation times and complications.

i favour streamyx 4mb BB packages over Unifi ...cos ..

1) no need to re set up of my hardware ...
2) Fax and phone line unchange number ...

BUT KNS ... No port available to upgrade to 4mb BB packages ,,,!!!!!!

fiber optics is still new in Malaysia.
if TM didn't venture, surely TIME and Maxis won't take the risk.

Is it just me or everyone is experiencing the same thing.

Streamyx connection to South Korea is REAL lousy.

It's no different from a connection across the Pacific to the States. Pings averaging about 300ms+ and speed is like only 600kbps for a 4mbps line.

We DO not have good route to South Korea and China due to a missing important submarine cable such as the TPE (Trans Pacific Express).

Well,in theory Unifi is great
in reality Unifi have many problem

but Fiber is still Fiber
you can blame the unstable or such
you can blame TM or Maxis or XXX or XXX,countless if available in future

get your needs straight first
Does you will need a faster speed?
do you want to gamble for it?
but in the end they going to focus on Fiber Optic then Copper
i don't think it worth it to change copper cable in unified area~

Example of Copper Cable and Fiber Optic
''Would you still re-buy new but same part for your old computer
or would you invest to buy all new and faster part for your new computer?''

i have been running streamyx for 4 years now at my house, and 2 years for DiGi BB. got Unifi installed last week and it is super awesome!

terminated my DiGi BB already and will be doing the same for streamyx soon.
