QUOTE(Jurlique @ Aug 21 2011, 04:16 PM) Any members here owning a SG car? Non PR need PR friend as guarantor. Can share what car you got? and how's the installment and downpayment like?, HDB parking rates???, annual roadtax how much? which petrol you pump, SPC, shell, or Mobil? I heard shell got $10 rebate for every $50 you pump... Interest rate is low compared to Malaysia. Insurance is the thing that kills, was quoted 4.5k with 1 month Singaporean license. 26 years old. Is possible to get 0% downpayment with 2nd hand car. HDB open air season car park, 63.5 per month. Road tax for 1.6 Mazda is 7xx if I recalled correctly. Petrol, was driving for about 8 month and I only pumped once full tank and 2 times $20 in Singapore, the rest, buatan Malaysia. Sold my car and now seconded to Vietnam. |

QUOTE(r1v3r @ Aug 21 2011, 10:06 PM) Omg. 4.5k insurance is more than rm10k. I don't think Im willing to spend that much. Talk to your parent or wife (sibling cannot) who have NCD in Malaysia. Ask them to transfer their ncd to you and you cover their higher insurance cost. Mine is ~700+ per year. I got a 3 yr used family sedan when the new advante with Coe was selling at 50k. Parking about 70/month. Petrol really depend on individual usage. Servicing is much cheaper if you get familiar with car and know how to source part and services. I believe if you take good care of your car, it take good care of your life. So I spend if I have to. I resisted getting a car until I really need it. I make it a point to buy the place I stay before buying a car. Surf the local sgcarmart and the mycarforum for more info. I didn't know NCD can be transferred from a name to another name. Should have done that, but I used my uncle name instead. 4.5k is because I am 26 and just got the license for one month. QUOTE(Mackiddo @ Aug 21 2011, 10:13 PM) I thought HDB parking pretty standard ? mine is $90 for multi-storey car park. Luckily I got free sheltered parking at work. My insurance now is around $1k down from $2.5 when my ncb is totally zero. Road tax is around $600+ per year. I pump the fuel that I play a part to make, so I'm confident that I'm using the best fuel, got 18% discount as well. That's because you get staff discount |

QUOTE(seantang @ Aug 23 2011, 01:25 PM) You don't have to "run" to enjoy driving a powerful car. Official limit is 90km/h island wide. And driving in Singapore is really enjoying.Going 0->110->0kmh in an Altis and in an Evo is a very different experience. It's not about top speed. It's about the way you get to the speed you want and back. The feel, responsiveness, acceleration, braking, grip, the sound etc... it's just different. I used to go on biz trips for a week or two, and the moment I reach home from the airport, I'd put down my bags, jump into the car and go for a drive. My guess is that you've never felt that before. Then you will never understand. |

QUOTE(Tigerr @ Aug 23 2011, 03:08 PM) Wow....thinking also make me steam....it is like when i drive back kampung, hate to see those cars in front of me and difficult to over take them, n when reach to a trafficlight, i will cut out to the outer lane and then speed up immediately on green light and all left behind..... What I enjoying most when driving in Singapore is driving to the left most lane on the traffic light and swift to right most when on green light. |

QUOTE(crapp0 @ Aug 23 2011, 03:51 PM) I hate driving in singapore, unless its the highway, you cant go more then a 100ft without encountering a traffice light. Much prefer driving on route 66 in arizona, just a long unending road with nobody and no traffic lights to bother me. Based on my experience, the traffic light is programmed such a way that when the 1st one turn to green light, after a short period, the upcoming one also will turn to green, so the driver do not need to stop the car actually. Of course you can't compare to oversea highway la. |

QUOTE(Jurlique @ Aug 30 2011, 09:18 PM) Yes, but bear in mind that once the extract is generated, the JPJ officer may terminate your license in his system too. There are actually 2 way to get both Singapore and Malaysia licence valid at the same time.1. Pay RM300 to the runner, ask him to settle for you. 2. After convert Singapore licence, go LTA/TP get the similar extract, go back JPJ say want to cancel Singapore licence, the JPJ officer will cut your Singapore licence into half, and issue you a new Malaysia driving licence. Then go back to LTA/TP to get the new Singapore licence, pay SGD50 I think. |

QUOTE(ch_teo @ Sep 9 2011, 08:18 AM) it is just a reference end of a day. It has been mentioned in the thread countless of time that the only rates matters to us small player is the rate offered by money exchange, instead of so-called reference.it is still based on real-time the moment one exchange/trade, the volume. a morning before lunch time and after lunch time in the afternoon sometimes, there are huge gap if one pay attention to morning & afternoon trading rates, whole day. there are many links out there with different money exchanger/banks/etc, samples following: http://www.xe.com/ucc/ http://www.cimbbank.com.my/index.php?tpt=&tpl=gen_rates http://biz.thestar.com.my/business/exchange.asp |

I guess if you have kids, the better option would be working here and raised them here. They may not be street smart compared to Malaysian kids, might be even end up growing up as a nerd, but still, I think it is better compared to Malaysian education system (public vs public).
My reason coming here, or more accurately leaving Malaysia is I don't want my future kids end up going through what I went through in Malaysia, and I don't think there is any hope for Malaysia based on current socio-political environment. Perhaps it is in the blood, me as a Chinese, I will go wherever that offer better opportunity. |
