Thanks for all replies. Another reason to get PR is easier to get job is SG?
If I plan to work here around 5 years, then its not recommended to apply PR?

Aloong:
Other getting than getting ur money stuck in the CPF basically no benefits at all.
bros, since he/she is unsure whether to get pr or not, why waste the quota.

mea05key:
Companies contributes that extra percentage to your CPF fund. Unless you can invest your money and make more money using the money you take home, its better to dump the money into CPF. It helps you save and avoid spending unnecesarily also.

Mackiddo:
cpf is extremely useful if you plan to purchase a HDB apartment.

wlcling:
PR more for those who intend to stay for quite a while... but other than the usual stuff like cpf, medisave, etc... u also get lower tax rates..

Hey all sorry for slow response and not following this thread that often as I've been busy with work and life...

QUOTE(seantang @ Aug 18 2011, 11:36 PM)
Don't become a PR if the company pays you in cash whatever CPF they would have paid if you were a PR.

Become a PR if the company doesn't contribute CPF unless you're PR.

Extra money is extra money even if you can't touch it until you're 55. Actually getting it in cash doesn't mean that you will (best case) invest it at a better return than CPF can, and (worst case) you could simply blow the money on something useless.
*
Sadly my company do not pay me CPF in cash... but I don't think I'll forever work in SG, current plan is around 3-5 years...
For me PR is good if I plan to change job in future...

QUOTE(alaskanbunny @ Aug 19 2011, 01:10 AM)
i are the join companies factories in the malaysia but hq are the in sg

my companies are the 85% malaysians, hahaha, sg citizenians are the only 5%

i think chances are the better cause once on the time got the transfer from msia forward sg

but the pr give good security feeling..  no?

jump are the workjobs are easier, not need the new ep pass i think

cpf are added no tax give the gov, but not in cpf give allowance in cash will get the tax income i think

55 are blink the eyes past, very faster and also cpf are the can use buy hdb, insurance, aberdeen... no needing the 55... no?

also gooding the SRS to no pay the tax... this 1 the friends teaches me if pr... also other the cheats to no or less taxing income

*
lol, having difficulty to understand the full meaning of your reply but if you plan to work here for short term like 3-5 years, will you apply for PR for sake of job security?

QUOTE(ivanswk @ Aug 19 2011, 09:35 AM)
ah.. sux me still not millionaire yet  doh.gif
i agree on mackiddo in this, can ask what industry u in ?

previously when i was on workpass, my co have a voluntary CPF contribution, mean if i decided to contribute my portion the employer match their share, after a 1 year, i decided to stop as i need the money to roll for my studies.
nowadays they return their portion back to u, ...mean if u have a better use of the money else where then nogo

with the tightenin of the work pass every year, PR offer comfort thou, if u P1 level then different story
but if u bordeline in WP/EP and in attractive industries, SG gov might oust u out and give the job to the local or PRC local hehe sweat.gif

If it's only 3-5 years, then you'd probably don't want your $50K or so stuck in Cpf for another 30 years before you can get it back.

I just skip his posts, to be frank.

Look, if you're worried your profile is not strong enough for an EP renewal, it's not going to be strong enough for a PR, isn't it?
*
Thanks bro. My current plan is not applying for PR while growing my profile so I need not to worry about MOM reject my EP if I plan to change job in future.

Wah, why so cheap wan? izit an AP set? I think it is warrantied by local shop instead of Samsung or HTC itself.
*
QUOTE(seantang @ Sep 4 2011, 10:29 AM)
The FAQ says it's a local warranty. But to be a locally warrantied set, it has to be obtained from Samsung Singapore. However, there's no logic why Samsung would give a much lower cost price to them, competing with the 3 telcos and their own exclusive dealers. Reading their trade in policy where they pay more for trade in sets which are still within the warranty period... my guess is that they refurbish trade in sets that are <1 year old and buy a warranty extension up to 1 year from Samsung when they sell it.
*
I think they buy telco set and sell as non-telco set to get cheaper price?

Wait patiently for the iPhone 5 to come out in a few months la. There are strong indicators that it will be released in the US in early October, so it should hit Singaporean shores by early 2012. Using a basic, non-iPhone phone for a few months cannot die one.
*
Erm using s2 now but still find iphone is better (in terms of ease of use, simple setting, and good SQ for an audiophile like me)... since I have a fren interested to get my s2 now so thinking to get a temporally replacement until i5 is out...

saw your signature that u r using both ip4 and ss SII. Any comment when comparing these 2?

Hmm my opinion:
i4:
- lotsa apps
- better battery life
- good integration between apps and iOS
- good audio quality
- solidly build
- user friendly UI

S2:
- very good screen
- memory card slot
- slim and lightweight
- slightly poor integration between apps and OS (compared to Apple)
- poor audio quality (with earphone)
- a bit complicated for me (i dont have time to play around with most of its features yet...

It also depends if they are career women or family mother, for career women, they will expect you do work even after office hour.

where do u stay/work? if u r in west side, try causeway link. $27, not so comfortable, so-so service, it's the most convenient way for me to go back on fri nite as my office in IBP  tongue.gif

u need to book and purchase online for First Coach bus tix 2 months in advance, 12pm mid nite (for fri nite/sun late afternoon). so far it's the best (good service, depart/reach on-time, better traffic in Bangsar then going south to TBS, free one bottle of water & cake/biscuit  biggrin.gif ) and cheapest among all the bus companies.  thumbup.gif
*
I'm staying in west side and work at central area. Causeway link, is it with 3 seats or 4 seats per row? Never mind I'll check the website tonight for more info.
How about Five Stars? I checked online, their price is even higher than Aeroline.

For Firstcoach yes I agree they are the best option in terms of price and comfort and service. That's why the time I want to take always full sweat.gif

Any suggestion for credit/debit cards that offer the best "all rounder" cash rebates? Is there better cards than POSB Everyday?

I'm using StanChart Super Salary, no minimum deposit for account opening, no fall below fee, only catch is every month your salary much credit at least 1.5k to the account, its debit card give 1% rebate for all Mastercard spending... its the one and only bank account I have in SG.
