Guys,

I need to arrange a first-time "in-laws meet-up" (my family + fiancee's family) dinner this weekend. Any recommendations? About 10 ppl, I'm paying all so I don't feel like going swanky, think I can feed 10 mouths in a proper dinner for like $300?

Currently thinking of Seafood International cos food is "ok" and not too expensive, but that's only cos I don't know of any other places ...
Oh man I'm so screwed then. Well not me directly, but my fiancee having trouble getting a job sad.gif ... until she gets one, everything I have to pay lol.

wah... aiming for dragon kids laugh.gif Happy for you smile.gif

I think the environment is more important for such meet up, must be comfortable and pleasant so a private room will be nice. Can't imagine you guys have to talk aloud in a typical kanton tim sum place. Choose a few good venue then filter off by their food quality.

Both of you PR? If she is not working now then are you poor enough (<10k or <12k for EC) to buy HDB? If yes then better consider buy one before she get a jobs.

we bought our HDB with our 2k+ freshie salary back then, life was "miserable".

years after, freshie pay remain the same, so who is more miserable?

Don't be a slave for hdb owner forever. If possible Own the place you stay, pay installment is better than paying rental that only helps others buying their house.

Don't you want financial freedom and peace of mind one fine day?

Married early will combine two incomes as one to take up any early opportunity but your are right about single enjoying life more. The question is for how long do you really want to enjoy that way.

Ya, but the first payment is very heavy on the pocket.  laugh.gif  laugh.gif
20% deposit + COV + misc fees.  sweat.gif  sweat.gif

I think the fresh grad pay is closer to 3k~3k+ now. If both partner had been for ~3 years then the CPF should be just nice to cover deposit, a little saving from both side to cover other fees... can be done. If each of you earn more than 5k after 5 years working then you cant buy hdb anymore so the SG gov is kind of encouraging young couple to settle down early.

I see young people are paying much higher price for the new HDB and most of them MUST have 5 figures renovation work done before move in. hmm.gif wonder how they did it.

3 years of CPF enough for deposit?  unsure.gif  unsure.gif
How much of CPF are we able to withdraw for buying property?
Currently, it is a lot of savings from both my wife and I trying to fund the deposit.  laugh.gif  laugh.gif
Need to get ready the funds before we go over the limit.
Savings from Malaysia is next to none when trying to fund the deposit.  sweat.gif  sweat.gif

ok I am not accountant so this is just my idea,

say your monthly contribution is $1080 now (3k salary x 36%), by then end of 3 years should have about $40k in your CPF factor in salary increment and possible bonus etc. Two person will have $80k.

say you can pay the 20% downpayment only with CPF without cash then you two can actually buy a under $400k hdb right?
One warning for you, make sure there will be no further "upgrading program" if you are buying an old flat. You will be surpise to know how much a PR have to pay for such upgrading.

Hold on to the removation to maintain your cash flow, simple repair and painting etc can DIY. Sometime the owner need extra time to move out, then you can try offering them to stay in your flat a few month in return for lower COV.

Ok. Thanks a lot of the lower COV tip.
A bit unsure about us being able to use ALL of the CPF as deposit payment.
I always thought it was like a % just like EPF.
Anyway, thanks a lot.
Will do more research till I think I have enough money.  laugh.gif  laugh.gif

Login to your cpf account to see the max amount you can use for housing.

Cpf and hdb rules are always changing. Better check with them what is the current limit. It was easier years ago.

the prob, is your wife drawing the good salary too? How about the shopaholic wife?
I seldom find the girls who save lots money in their working life.
I want the financial freedom(want this badly, too tired of office politics), I find it to retire at penang with cheap cost of living and good medical centre. However, I like city environment where I can see lots chio girls  brows.gif
Not to be proud because the inheritance, I have already had 5 landed houses and 1 shophouse from my father under my name(Thanks to him).
In singapore, I find it better to rent rather than buy a condo there, I think it will be crazy to sell all my houses to buy 1 condo in Sg..
if you like chio girls and get yourself a shopaholic wife it means you are very handsome and capable loh.

Me and my wife live a morderate life.

buying properties is really your personal decision depend on your financial goal.
