QUOTE Fernandes' company Tune Group has bought a 66% stake, buying out previous majority shareholders Flavio Briatore and Bernie Ecclestone. "QPR is a raw diamond and hopefully I can contribute into turning it into a diamond," Fernandes told the club's official website. Fernandes, the founder of AirAsia, and his business partners will work alongside the Mittal Family, who have retained their 33% stake. The 47-year-old West Ham fan, who is also the team principal of Formula One's Team Lotus, will become chairman of QPR Holdings Ltd. "I lived in Uxbridge Road for many years and grew up around the area," Fernandes continued. "Everyone knows I've followed West Ham all my life, but I've always had a soft spot for QPR. "Rangers were one of the first teams I watched as a child at Loftus Road. "The opportunity to get involved with the club was mentioned to me by the previous owners and here I am. "I've always wanted to be involved in football and the appeal of a London club, like QPR, was too good an opportunity to turn down. "It's funny how life has a way of spinning things round. It goes full circle sometimes." |

While it's a good news, I rather see him spending his monies locally. There is a lot of needs for better development of local players and yet why are the monies spent outside of Malaysia?

QUOTE So where could Parker be moving to? Well, it won't be QPR. As expected, their £4m offer for the Player of the Year has been dismissed by West Ham - and has left their co-owner David Sullivan in a rather bad mood: "It's ridiculously low. We see it as a cheap publicity stunt. It's a bit like us bidding £12m for Wayne Rooney." |

Tony Fenandez is a West Ham fan. Buying QPR is just business. So he bought and invest in QPR so he can make money in the future. Investing money into local footabll teams is the same as burning money, coz the money invested will surely be lost into pockets of local politicians..

He does not have to invest in existing teams, he could start his own club. To begin with, we have nothing approaching the French Clairefontaine or the old English Lilleshall youth academies. We don't even have clubs running dedicated youth programs. Just about ALL the top-tier players would have come through a full-time youth programme in Europe and South America (Drogba being a very, very rare exception) and we don't have a single one apart from Bukit Jalil, which is too unfocused and government-run to be good. The first tycoon to invest in a youth programme here will get my eternal support. |

Tony Fernandes plans Beckham swoop Queen Park Ranger's new owner Tony Fernandes is planning a swoop for David Beckham. The Malaysian tycoon reckons it will help Becks' Olympic dream and wants him at Loftus Road as soon as his MLS season ends with LA Galaxy, according to 'The Sun'. He believes the ex-England captain will be tempted by the promise of regular first-team football in the run-up to the London extravaganza. Beckham, now 36, has made no secret of the fact he wants to play in the 2012 Games. Fernandes knows Becks will not come cheap but believes shirt sales and other merchandising will more than cover the cost of bringing him to West London. The player's Galaxy deal expires at the end of the season. He has been offered a new one but, so far, has not committed himself. A Rangers insider said: "Tony promised Neil Warnock plenty of support in the transfer market and proved that in the recent window. "But bringing Beckham back to England next month would top the lot — and it's not a pipe-dream." Source: emirates247.com Published Sept 3 2011 Added on September 4, 2011, 2:48 amEUROSPORT: Premier League - Paper Round: QPR swoop for Beckham Premier League - Paper Round: QPR swoop for Beckham Sat, 03 Sep 10:22:00 2011 Queen's Park Rangers have been linked with a sensational move for David Beckham. RELATED LINKS Deadline Day: All the deals Premier League club-by-club deals Bet on Football - Get £25 Free New owner Tony Fernandes will reportedly offer the former England captain the regular first-team football he needs to maintain his dream of representing Great Britain at the Olympics. The Malaysian tycoon is thought to see Beckham as a potentially enormous publicity coup that would do wonders for QPR's global profile. Beckham's contract with LA Galaxy expires at the end of the MLS season, when he can join a Premier League club immediately as a free agent. A Loftus Road source told The Sun: "Tony promised Neil Warnock plenty of support in the transfer market and proved that in the recent window. "But bringing Beckham back to England would top the lot - and it's not a pipe dream." Beckham has spent several stints in Europe keeping his fitness up during the MLS off-season. He spent two spells on loan at Milan, and has trained with both Arsenal and Tottenham whose training complexes are close to his Hertfordshire home. all the players QPR are buying are obviously just to ensure PL survivability.
they havent really spent alot of money, even tho statements in the media keep popping up about how they have lots of transfer funds for players...'malaysian' club after all to date, i think they have barely spend 10m total on all the 13 or so players who have come in...half have come in on loan / free... the most expensive signing so far is reported to be SWP at 4m followed by ferdinand at 3m. |

Definitely would be a smart move from a marketing / branding perspective if Beckham does come to QPR. Game-wise, however, Beckham is a kuda tua who has gone way past his prime. In all honesty he should hang up his boots a long time ago. But heck, if it's good for the coffers, it doesnt matter right?
