QUOTE(virgoguy @ Oct 18 2011, 06:21 PM) hi all two days ago, I've just cancelled off my RHB classic which been followed me for 8 yrs long due to the incompetent offer and benefits. Today the bank called me up and decide keep me to stay with them by offering me NO GST, NO Annual fee and double up my CL from now onward. So I really wonder doesn't it they overturn the GST rules been stated by government whereby the bank are not allow to absorb the GST for the customer? The second question is, should I accept it or reject it? or ask them to offer me platinum card with same condition? but somehow i still think that their cc benefits are sux (Note : currently I am holding OCBC Ti and MB2 Platinum) i think they will basically give you RM50 cash rebate or points to offset the GST. On your 2nd question, you already mention that their benefit is not up to your liking, so why still wanna get one unless of course you wanna keep it for occasional discount/offer/etc.

If you can indeed nego for the plat, and get confirmation in writing, no AF/GST or RM50 cashback with no condition, it could be worthwhile to keep the card for the 4x complimentary access to all Plaza Premium Lounges since it is not offered by your current OCBC Ti and MBB2 Plat.

Interesting letter to editor in new straits times today: » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « Unsolicited credit cards: Poor security on the part of bank and Pos Laju
THE recent police crackdowns on syndicates producing fake credits cards have prompted me to highlight a very serious issue on safety that some banks are taking for granted.
Recently, I received a credit card from a renowned bank via Pos Laju that I never applied for. There were several security concerns that immediately came to mind on the lackadaisical attitude taken by the bank concerned.
Upon calling their customer service centre, I was duly informed that the card was "pre-approved' and the system showed that it has not been activated yet.
Nevertheless, what appalled me was the fact that there was no urgency shown by them as to why the card took so long to reach me in the first place! The card centre had produced the card dated Aug 26. It was only posted via Pos Laju on Sept 13 as indicated on the form.
Ironically, I only received it on Oct 11 after nearly one month with the postal service. Worse still, the delivery man from Pos Laju did not ask for any initials or acknowledgment of receipt from me before handing over the envelope.
He just dashed off hurriedly. And to top it all, there was a very evidently pasted red sticker on the envelope indicating that there was a card (debit/credit) in the package.
It is mind-boggling to me how a bank has conveniently breached all aspects of security in issuing, dispatching and tracking a valuable document which is as good as cash.
First and foremost, there was never an application made for the card and neither was there any verbal communication via telephone from the bank indicating that a credit card would be issued to me.
So how does one legally address the issue of the "pre-approved" concept if there were to be a breach or abuse of the card before the recipient receives it?
The card was practically "floating" somewhere for nearly six weeks upon issuance and the bank did not even have the courtesy to call me to ensure if indeed I had received it.
And does it take Pos Laju one month to deliver a letter within the Klang Valley? Compounding the fact is that even upon delivery a signature was not required.
The card could have gone missing and how would I have ever known that there was a card issued in my name in the first place?
The question that urgently needs to be addressed is: What is the approved, legitimate and sanctioned protocol that banks must adhere to in issuing a credit card?
Why are unsolicited credit cards being issued at the whim and fancy of the banks with little or no regard to safeguarding the interests of their clients?
What has Bank Negara, as the central governing authority, to say about such happenings?
Will I be liable if the card had indeed been tampered, abused, cloned or gone missing as it is issued in my name? Identity theft is a big concern to many, and credit card fraud is on the rise globally.
Yet the banks have a lackadaisical approach to this. The only comforting answer I obtained repeatedly from the bank was that the card had not been "activated".
But the fact remains that they had assumed I had received it. It is totally an unacceptable practice to send a "pre-approved" credit card without the written consent of the client.
I wonder how many such cards have been issued unknowingly to banks' clients.
It is sad that when there is a dispute regarding such cards, the onus is on the victim to clear the air and the bank only gets a slap on the wrist.
It is critical that Bank Negara put an end to such unethical solicitation of business by the banks and impose heavy penalties on them.
There must be an immediate stop to issuing "pre-approved" cards without the knowledge of the client. Cards should only be issued upon receipt of a complete and legitimate application.
It is also time that Pos Laju ensures prompt and timely delivery to the correct recipient, keeping in line with its motto

You are right, I cant see what is the direct SCB Preferred WMC (2x points for spending >RM1500 per month) benefit over the normal SCB Business Plat (1x points + 0.5% cashback).

QUOTE(winner @ Nov 12 2011, 03:34 AM) You do not really need to become SCB Preferred Banking customer in order to get SCB Preferred WMC. However, if you apply for this WMC without becoming SCB Preferred Banking customer, the WMC you get will only earn x1 Choice Point, not x1.5 or x2 Choice Points. Good info. The detail of this card on their website is so limited. Redemptions are only good if there is alot of choice points to begin with. I got excited when I found out I am eligible for this WMC, but now have to pass haha. This post has been edited by Human Nature: Nov 12 2011, 11:46 AM

QUOTE(hye @ Nov 17 2011, 12:31 PM) Folks ... are you guys aware that merchants are not allowed to add any extras to your credit card ? Please do not condone such practice. Please be aware that merchants always manipulates the receipts for such "extras" so that it would not be seen by the bank that they have charged you extra for using credit card. It is an offense that will be punished severely by the bank and Mastercard / VISA International. What kind of extras? Thanks

Since we are at this surcharge topic, let me share my recent experience. I inquired the price of a watch at Sincere Watch Pavilion and proceed to ask if they accept AMEX. Upon hearing this, the sales advisor said there will be a surcharge for AMEX but not for MasterCard/Visa. I would like to know, can we complain to AMEX in this case because only AMEX gets surcharge. Thank you. Added: I just contacted The Hour Glass Pavilion and the sales advisor said there is no surharge for AMEX. AMEX will charge them, and zero charge for customers. Great! p/s Sorry if it is inappropriate to post the name of the companies, just sharing This post has been edited by Human Nature: Nov 18 2011, 12:13 PM

Thanks for the response, both of you, Hye and Gen-X. Very interesting topic indeed. I agree that most people, including myself, thought that the surcharge is common, that is why I am surprise to know it is against the rules. Merchants selling fixed price items will probably don't dare to impose surcharge as it is detectable through the receipts/statements, so it is the non-fixed items that are 'vulnerable' to exploitations. Personally, I think it is good to negotiate for the best possible discount first before revealing that we are paying using AMEX. Shock and awe tactic

QUOTE(Gen-X @ Nov 25 2011, 12:09 PM) I received my MBB VI Priority Pass Membership card by courier, I guess many members yet to get their Priority Pass Membership Card because my number is 436500 00000000XX, that means I am most probably among the first 100 MBB VI cardholder to be issued PPM card. Unlike PB CC, certain numbers are allocated to PB customers which I don't think Priority Pass does it. If I tell you the last two digits of my number, you guys won't believe me. I think my guess would be spot on. Maybe they have read your blog and know about your fascination with the number

QUOTE(Gen-X @ Dec 1 2011, 05:50 PM) Bro, haha, you should have said above earlier. I agree fully to the above statement, but from what I read, the TS cannot handle the matter herself as all she does here is complain. And in view of the urgency of the matter, she wants to email to the lawyer and contact Diana Chee No point we advise her anything else except to seek legal advise. She actually posted her case in /k/ and ask for advise until i re-direct her to this CC thread. Hope she can update us the outcome.

If you feel that your deleted post wasn't offensive or OT and should not be deleted, i'm afraid posting on the frontdesk is your only choice. Otherwise, contact the staff here I am certain it is not you or Hye. I suspect it is a red tagger but then again, they are all so powerful. My post is not offensive or OT. I will just click report whenever i see any red taggers go OT which they frequently do
