So, it there ways for us to connect the optical drive to SATA3 port1?
*
uh...no? haha. i dont think so.

----------------------------------------

anyways, if games are JERKY,not laggy, but JERKY, wat wud b da problem?ive tested w non-OC and OC'd gpu and turboboostes cpu...no throttling,i think my game's jerky...

-----------------------------------------
another question, in Intel Rapid Storage Technology utility, it states that my HDD is running at 3Gb/s. mind u that my HDD is connected to a SATA-to-SATA caddy of which im unsure of wat speed the SATA port runs at but on the caddy itself, da sticker says 1.5Gb/s (SATA1). So i can rest assured that my HDD (connected to caddy) is running at full speed SATA2 3Gb/s becaus intel RST says so rite? if so, there's only one problem left; i cannot boot from the caddy. smile.gif can inform the seller w the details smile.gif

my SSD runs at 6Gb/s btw. shud b correct reading of my HDD as reported by intel RST.

@notroxcity, if you transfer file to HDD, speed still good ?
Jerky, it could be the GPU or CPU suddenly drop in clocks, or HDD lose speed as well..
*
da choppy graphics was due to my boot settings at msconfig. i chose "2" cores as boot cores in the advanced options. i tot it meant physicals. instead, it was i guess either total threads or virtual cores.

da HDD speed was confirmed by Intel RST to be SATA2 speed. i can relax a bit. now, da last and i think da final problem wud be i cannot boot from my 2nd HDD. earlier today, ive tested da caddy in a different laptop, and found out dat if the SATA mode is set to AHCI, BIOS and boot manager will NOT detect the 2nd HDD. hav to set SATA mode to IDE mode. HOWEVER, when i replace the caddy back into my 4830TG, and set SATA mode tu IDE, sadly n frustratingly, the bIOS and boot manager wont see my 2nd HDD....

can i cry like little girl rite now?

So basically can only use it as storage, no OS in there ?
*
there's OS in there. even if there's no OS in the 2nd HDD (640GB), the BIOS shud detect the HDD. like it detects the stock optical drive. What do you think is da problem? is it da caddy or 4830TG? da caddy works just fine on da other laptop but not 4830TG.

Last time your HDD caddy is detected in Windows, right ?
Now cannot or only BIOS doesn't detect it ?
*
had no problem w device manager before. only w BIOS and BOOT manager. when tested on another laptop, by changing to IDE mode, da latop (not 4830TG) can detect in BIOS and boot manager. so, definitely not the caddy problem since its working perfectly in different laptop. for 4830tg, no matter if i change to IDE mode or AHCI mode, BIOS and boot manager wont detect the caddy but it still shown in the device manager. sad.gif

is it possible that...the SATA 2.0 chipset (HM65 if im not mistaken), lack support for advanced format HDD in the sense of booting off of it.

Hi notroxity, this is my first post here in lowyat, i was searching the web for this particular project regarding installing ssd on my 4830tg and luckily i found this.  I would like to ask some questions regarding this project before buying the above link from ebay and before buying the agility 3 also from ebay.  Basically i just wanted to make the ssd my c drive and as the main drive where i would install the windows 7 & programs and then make the existing 640gb as my d drive or secondary drive for datas.  Do i have to remove the 640gb from its existing location and transfer it to the place where the optical drive is previously located and then install the ssd inside the laptop where we remove the 640gb.  I need to know how you did it. Thank you
*
yes. u have to transfer ur HDD to where ur optical drive is as u cannot boot from ur 2nd storage drive ( in this case ur stock 640GB HDD). but it is detectable in windows, n can use it for storage and game installs.

eventho u set ur SATA mode to IDE mode, u still cannot detect ur 2nd storage drive (i.e HDD) both in the BIIOS and boot manager) but can still use it normally. updating the SSD's firmware, u have to Linux firmware updater, everything is on ocz website.

Hi notroxcity, thank you for your immediate reply, i really wanted to be careful about this and dont want to screw things up.  Just to summarize and see if i understand you right.
First: i have to remove the stock hdd (640gb).
Second: install the ssd (agility 3) on the slot where the stock hhd had been previously located
Third: without still removing the optical drive, run a linux distribution bootable disc to update the ssd firmware
Fourth: using the optical drive again, install the windows 7 using the acer recovery disc to install windows 7 to the ssd
Fifth: remove the optical drive and then install the 9.5mm ultra bay from ebay with the stock hdd (640gb) connected to it
Sixth: enjoy the new acer 4830 with ssd as the new C: drive and the stock hhd as D: drive

Did I misunderstood anything from your experience or do I need to know anything more before proceeding with the project.  Another concern is and would like to ask you is,  did you get a reply from acer regarding the issue of the optical drive being connected with sata port 3 im concerned because if we swap the optical drive with the stock hdd then it will degrade over time and cannot use the 640gb which contains the datas.  Thank you notroxcity.

I did check with acer website and entered the serial number of my 4830tg and its says its not affected with the sandy bridge issue.  I'm really CONFUSED?????
*
ur summary is correct. mind u that, u dont have to take apart 4830TG to remove optical drive. theres only 1 single screw u have to unscrew to remove the drive. owh yeah, google SSD tweaker to optimize ur SSD under W7.

regarding the SATA2 port, no replies at all. sad.gif

Thank you very much notroxcity for your help. Now im ready to order the 9.5 ultra bay.  The agility 3 im still waiting for the best deal.  Thanks again.  Well I'll just have to take a chance that the drive would not degrade over time.

i think its u can get 420 at czone. agility 3 60gb

Confirmed. You can now install Nvidia Geforce Driver 280.26 directly, without resolving to tweaking.  smile.gif

On a site note, does anyone know where to find the audio driver for ACER ASPIRE 4830TG?
The one listed on ACER site is "Audio Conexant  Audio Driver  8.54.6.0  51.2 MB  2011/04/14 (click it)"
which is kinda old.
*
damn ight. been looking for the updated driver for ages! the crackling sound bugs me. some said that u simply have to uninstall the dolby software n use a Windows stock driver. but that wud mean i'd lose the dolby effect which in my experience is really2 good feature.

Nice.... no problems so far while gaming? Gonna try it out thumbup.gif
*
nope smile.gif cudnt go any higher but wanted to since im limiting my cpu to 1.3Ghz while playing Dirt 3, and 2.1Ghz for every other games. basicllay, as long as a game is gpu-intensive, u can set ur cpu lower than 2.0. but rarely play games nowdays. bored of them.

Hello Highpoint,

I appreciate your reply and your attention, but I just received back my unit yesterday and the problem still persists. Nevertheless, I requested for a unit exchange today instead of getting it repair for the fourth time. It will be meaningless and waste of time if I do so. Hopefully the next unit will be better than this one, this one is just not my luck  sad.gif

They asked for a full set of laptop that include the box and the origin adapter, guess I am taking it to Highpoint by Friday or next Monday. Furthermore, I requested a newer model of 4830TG just that because of Highpoint's HQ inform me that there are no more stock of the model "4830TG-2414G75Mnbb". That's the matter, and that's why i requested for a newer model  drool.gif  drool.gif
