Just got my hands on a TMRND router (black)..

Looks like bridge mode is possible on this :

CODE
BusyBox v1.6.1 (2010-12-14 15:12:14 CST) multi-call binary
# brctl show
bridge name     bridge id               STP enabled     interfaces
br1             8000.001exxxxxxxx      no              ra0
                                                       vport1
                                                       vport2
br2             8000.001exxxxxxxx       no              eth1.600
                                                       vport4
br3             8000.001exxxxxxxx       no              eth1.500
                                                       vport3

Firmware handles better than the previous DIR-615, OS level VLAN config + bridging as opposed to switch chip VLAN management.

Hi guys? Is your unifi working for you today? Mine hasnt been working :/ tried many many different ways, still a no go. I'm on 192.168.0.1 and it says my internet offline. When trying to connect through the status page it keeps on saying pppoe disconnected. And when I click connect it just go again and again. Connecting then disconnected. The LOS button is bright red and even many many resets still can't work. Does anyone know what's wrong? Will give a call to tm if no one here knows how to solve this..

How's your VOIP and IPTV service? If those two are also down it sounds like a physical/PON issue. You need to call them so they can check your port status.

Hi, I installed DD-WRT on my router using the guide here..

http://unifi.athena.my/ddwrt_guide.html

Do you know how I could revert back to the original firmware? I've downloaded it from the link given in the guide (http://unifi.athena.my/downloads/DIR615G1_FIRMWARE_705.rar
) but not sure on what to do with it.

Many thanks.

Extract the RAR, put the router back into emergency mode (same steps as dd-wrt guide) then select the firmware file from the extracted RAR and upload that into the router.

Between the VLAN and IP layer, you have a PPPoE layer running. Bandwidth limits are applied on a per PPPoE session basis in addition to VLAN caps. FTTH isn't necessarily uncapped at the physical layer, there is a unique encryption key in use to associate each fiber ONT with an OLT so it may also be possible for the OLTs to set rate limits on a per ONU basis. I'm pretty sure it has its own bandwidth allocation/control methods.

What if someone really nasty who spends his time digging VIP20/BIZ20 accounts logins/passwords through remote administration, then uploading corrupted firmwares to destroy subscribers hardware making them unusable? While doing that they buy enough time for themselves to utilize the stolen accounts with their Unifi lines at home? Free lunch?

That's uh.. pretty much how it's been so far (except for the people who have disabled it or bought a new router), lol

I'm not sure if they can spoof MAC IDs for their hardwares but reading so much posts about new users having their BTU/router going bad in just days gets me thinking were they actually intentional.

It's easy to spoof the MAC. As for intentionally damaging a router with bad firmware, it would really depend on what the damage looks like. Some users had all the lights on their router not turn on at all so that looks more like a hardware issue. If you really wanted to find out I guess you could setup a honeypot and see how many hits you get.

Is there a possibility of bonding multiple 20mbps PPPoE accounts to achieve higher speeds?

Yeap :3

How are you going to track the thief when there are say 15 users connected on the same port if say he manages to spoof MAC IDs and the unique encryption keys of the ONU? Normally insiders will have these information or guessable pattern. Installers can always record them into their notebook before handing them to customers.

There are numerous management protocols running on the network.. it's possible to trace a user to the exact BTU regardless of MAC spoofing as long as it's associated to an OLT.

If you're in a high rise (serviced with VDSL2), you'll probably be patched over to the new MSANs sitting right in your building. That should provide improved DSL sync stability vs Streamyx.. but I've seen a few cases where even the copper wiring within the building is so crappy that Unifi loses DSL sync. It's different depending on your location.. you should ask your neighbours who have signed up for it regarding the stability of the service in your area.

My FTTH port under TTDI is pretty awesome :

RB250GS and DIR-615 will have identical performance as a VLAN bridge. RB750G will be better than DIR-655 as a router.. it gives you full control over your network (layer 7 filtering, QoS, b/w limiting, etc.) but you need to learn how to use it properly. Only downside is that you need to pair it with a wifi AP since it doesn't have any onboard wifi. You could use the RB750G + DIR-655 as a wifi AP perhaps.
