Oh my.. since like my ASUS RT-N13U going to happen the same with Dlink DIR-615..

It now behave like it, every 1 day after lots of data transfer, my LAN connection be it wireless or wired will become unavailable, lost the connection, not network cable unplugged, just that the connection will lost it's IP address's and receive 169.* IP.

I tried to restart PC hoping that it was PC problem, but does not resolve the issue, and restarted the router and wallah, connection back again, ohmygod.. anyone know what's going on with this symptom?

Hi rewlie,

I am using the same router, and facing the same problem. The most recent ocurrent was yesterday. Though I couldn't connect to the router with my laptop, however it's ok when I used my mobile to connect to it.

2 things I observed, I used to use auto for my wireless type, I changed it to b/g then it's ok. Change back to auto, it gave me problem again. This could be one of the issues.

Another thing is, wondering if you set a smaller ip range for your DHCP. If you did, this may be a problem too if your devices cannot obtain a valid IP from your router. I allocated only 6 IP address for my devices to share, however my wife's mobile doens't come with a hostname, with which whenever she connects to the router, a new IP will be assigned to her device. In normal case, the router will assign the same IP if it recognises it as an existing device if it finds a record on its device list (through hostname). The bloody Samsung Galaxy S 2 don't have a hostname, hence used up all the IP. For this, either you allocate a wider IP range, or you configure a shorter lease period for each IP. This issue was observed even when I used the stock router too.

I am still observing the behaviour of this router especially on the wireless type issue. Should you have any finding from your side, please share it here too ya.

Thank God there is someone in the same boat as mine..

For me, my wife Iphone can connect, but my laptop cannot.. using Auto as well, might wanna change that as per your suggestion..

I'm using dedicated DHCP IP assignment via MAC address, one of my device which is AC Ryan media player also don't have a hostname, although inside AC Ryan got setting for hostname but dunno why it was not appear inside router.. so this way only assigned IP address that will go to that particular MAC address, so i think you can use this method for your wife S2.. this way also ensure that only devices that we know can connect, thus eliminate possible line sniffer.. i use this option since my AC Ryan need that dedicated IP address via wireless to make sure my device mapping on laptop always stay connected, my AC Ryan running NAS..

I set my DHCP from .2 to .254, so it's maximum wide.. nahh it does not make any difference since i assigned fix, but my lease period is 24 hours, will try to shorten it, see how it goes..

Sounds to me like wireless interference. Do you see many other wifi networks in your location? Some may be stronger and may cause you PC to drop connection with your router.

Also when you use "N" set to 20MHz narrow channel. Most 802.1n routers will use 40MHz (wide channel) which will take cause more problems. 802.1x 2.4GHz radios effectively can support only 3 networks before some interference starts. Wide channel takes 2 out of the 3.

Your other option is to move to the more expensive 5Ghz 802.1n network.

Yeah i do see a lot of other networks as well in my neighborhood, just that i have set fix channel, dont think this will be issue since LAN connection also unavailable..

Oh now i know got difference between 20Mhz and 40Mhz.. i dont go for 5Ghz last time because i dont think it's worth it for now, maybe in the future once all other equipment also roll out in 5Ghz support.

If LAN connections are affected, check to see if router and modem are placed too close together. Usually allow for space like 2 cm to 3 cm. Heat build up could be one cause. Seen this enough times with cheaper consumer routers where the heat sink or lack of it does not dissipate heat fast enough.
