When you press the clutch. it actually disengage the clutch from the engine flywheel which mean the power of the engine is not transfer to the wheel. that's why you feel the car starting to slow down a little. Pressing the clutch is not a way to slow the car, in fact it is very inappropriate as it will worn the clutch out much faster and it is very dangerous as you will have no control of your car momentum.
