Hi all,

I'm a snooker fan from Penang. I started to play casually during my college time (2002/2003). Now i started to play every friday night at Jupiter One Stop. I'm still a learner.

I'm thinking of buying a snooker cue in the near future. Can i know where can i buy a snooker cue and how much does it cost? Anyway, is it necessary for beginners like me to own a snooker cue?

its best for every snooker players, even beginners to have their own cue..no matter a beginner or not, it is still best to have a cue that has a same feel so that everytime you will be improving on the same cue feel...blah... i dunno whether that is the right way to say it or not sweat.gif

i have read most of all the discussion in this forum. Looks like O'min and John Parris cue caught my attention the most. Can i know where can i get them in Penang? How much is the market price for the cue in Penang? Hope some Penangites can help me..

Besides that i found Ace Snooker Centre in Penang very good but i wonder why ACE in KL not good.

you're right orenzai...

the most important thing in snooker is consistency and not form...if you count on playing form you'll be very frustrated everytime you play...

a personal cue is an instrument that will help you maintain that consistency...no matter you're a beginner or pro, having a personal cue helps you step up your game...

asimo, so what budget do you have for a cue?
*
I'm not really sure about the budget at the moment. I guess it's around RM200 but i saw in a website, an O'min 3/4 cue cost around RM300.00 and above. John Parris might be more expensive in my opinion. Something for sure is i want to something nice for me (the cue's feeling, design and my pocket oso la tongue.gif cos i'm planning to buy my 1st car soon) which i can keep for a long time..hehe..

don't worry too much about getting a cue at whatever price.. most importantly in every budget range, there will be a cue that would suit you and as you progress you might find yourself wanting to get another cue..

Icic..So do u know any place that sells cue in Penang Island?

wow I didn't know John Parris makes house cues...

well the John Parris I'm using is the cheapest one, JP Classic...I got it from my bro..it was flown in directly from UK...its around 221+ pounds...i reckon if you want the mid-range one (John Parris Ambassador, its a Steve Davis replica) it would cost around 236+ pounds...

so if you do the maths it'll be around 1.4k..

btw, where is your hometown? i wanna go and play with them JP house cues!
*
Yaya. Where's your hometown? if they got JP cue..then surely JP cue got sold in malaysia. I might travel to place just to buy the JP cue for collection and of cos playing...

Sorry, but for sure those JP house cues are imitation. Why? First of all, JP doesn't make house cues. Their cheapest machine made 1 piece training cues are priced at 60 pounds. Thats almost 400 ringgit. You think a snooker parlor provides house cues priced like that? Haha.
FYI, plenty of imitation JP in Penang. Asimo, if you're interested, you can purchase them at Vision snooker, taman pekaka penang. 3/4 joint, looks decent and all priced below 200 ringgit.

Added on July 9, 2008, 5:19 pmBtw, ori John Parris the nearest you can purchase them is over the crossway ( singapore ). Cheapest 3/4 joint also 1K and above. Nothing to be surprised about, because JP has never been affordable. Ha Ha.
*
Taigonghai.

Thanks for the wonderful info. About the imitation JP, what's the different from the real one? is it everything the same but just not made by JP himself? haha..

Do u use your own cue? and if you do, which brand cue do u use? mind to tell me?

Asimo, if you want to look for the Cityboy or O'min Millenium, you can head to Kedah Road snooker centre. Hope this helps.
*
Hi, one more question..since there is an imitation for JP cue, will there be any imitation for other brand as well? I'm afraid that i might be getting an imitation while paying for the original price.

Is Mega Cue in Gurney Plaza and Ace Snooker Centre in Sg.Pinang selling cues? If yes, what brand do they sell?

Is it that Omin and CM1 is the most common and most preferred cue(usually used by snooker player with personal cue) in Malaysia?

............... classic,professional,perfect,climax,imagine,union.

These are the production series. the ............ denotes the lower series that I'm unsure of in terms of pricing.
Classic from 550 up, perfect 700++, climax 800 - 900++, imagine i guess roughly 1 k, and the Union about 1100 - 1200. At least thats what I paid for. Maybe cheaper or more expensive elsewhere. Peeps in KL, best to ask JH at Arena.
*
er...I remember that day u told me about Omin Millenium..so where does it located? the lowest? or already stop production?

Asimo, its still in production. Just that i not sure how to arrange it. still have series like champion, millenium. Those that I am unsure how to place them, i just put .......... don't want to confuse other forummers. But both champion and millenium is between the price gap of 200++ to 300 like that.

Asimo, not too sure of MegaCue in Gurney plaza. But Kedah road O'mins are original. Lots of players from Penang get their O'mins there. Ace do provide cues as well. O'mins are actually quite commonly available here and less imitations are found. CM1 cues are made in the same factory as the O'mins as well. You will see some Omin cues with a cm1 branding logo as well. These are brought in by CM1.

If you're worried about imitation cues sold in snooker parlors, try to stay away from European brands ie. JP,Peradon,Deroo(canada), trevor white. The ori cues, like jceh83 mentioned are not cheap. Anything below 500 for these cues brand new are fake. That's my tip to you
*
I went to Mega Cue on Friday. They do sell snooker cue. I saw an O'mins (if not mistaken is Millenium) with a price tag of RM290.00. Besides there is also other brands there such as Royal. I didnt really ask the workers there as i do not bring enough money that time. Do you think the price is good or overpriced? Got someone recommend me to go to Cheng Lee (shop near Passion Macalister Rd) as their price might be slightly lower but they drawback is u dun get a snooker table to test the cue.

hi asimo, jh here . o millenum cost 280 without ext. but comes with the mini butt hole . for additional 5" mini butt cost 40 . ok ?

now wood price also went up d ... so all the cue prices will also go up a little ..  if u r really intersted in getting a omin cue .. come to my place and i can let u test the cues 1st . ok ?

over my place u can test and try the cues before u purchase .. if u don find one u like .. i can custom make one for u ..ok ? no worries and don be shy ..

my advise to everyone out there is to get a cue u really like one .. don rush to buy one if u don like ok ? slow slow test out the cue 1st .. coz end of the day no matter what cue u r changing / using , u still need time to get use to the cue . need time to read the charactor of the cue itself ...

Hi Guys,

I'm currently working in Penang on a project for the next few months. So kind of bored in the evenings, nothing much to do and thought of playing snooker again.

Could anyone help me out with locations of snooker centres around Georgetown? I went to this place along anson road, but the tables there were very slow. Anywhere with nice tables?

Thanks very very much.
*
U can go to Ace Snooker centre at Sungai Pinang. Or u can go to Mega Cue a t Gurney Plaza. For budgeted snooker centre..u can go to One Stop Centre..there is a lot of snooker centre there. This is usually where i go to play with my friends. I do not know the quality of the tables...u rate it your self..hehe

Cannot explain in words lah...

just watch how the pros hold theirs. Ding Junhui, Steve Davis, Ronnie O' Sullivan, Stephen Hendry, etc, etc
*
haha..Yup..That's what my friends teach me. i watch them in youtube as i do not have astro at home now. There's Ronnie teaching the basics in youtube as well. If not mistaken, it is divided into a few basic categories which is Sighting, Cueing, Stance, Grip and etc.

On a separate matter, Can anyone tell me who plays with left hand other than Mark Williams?

By the way, I'm still using snooker House Cue sad.gif as i still do not have enough fund to buy a personal cue tongue.gif
