Is that because gap between door and grill are not big enough to put the hinges?

Look at your current wooden door, you know why. There is something call hidden / conceal hinge, but i don't know you can get it here in Malaysia. |

QUOTE(shroom @ Aug 10 2011, 12:25 AM) I'm planning to install a grille on a house entrance door. I requested for the hinges to put inside and the door to swing outward. The grille person keeps telling me it cannot be done. Is he correct? On a timber door and frame, the hinges are installed flush with the surface so that the gap between the door & frame is very small. For the MS hollow sections frames. Thus there are 2 options. 1. install the hinges on the metal surface by tack welds. Thus the gap between the door & frame will be slightly bigger. 2. cut slots into the hollow sections and tack weld from the back as what's being done to those metal bedroom door frame that you see in some of the houses. These are mostly done in factories by machines. As a compromise, and having a smaller gap between the MS grille door and frame, you use this type hinge which will reduce the gap between the door & frame. Most grille maker will say this & that cannot be done. Just because they have not done so themselves, does not mean cannot be done. You buy the hinges and pass to them to install. Problem solved. |

That is what I requested to the awning and steel works here in Penang. A swinging door grille when opening. They only quoted me RM480 for the door grille (35" x 96" only) and they should be installing it in the next few days. That means it can be done. Note that I currently have a sliding door grille which they will replace with swinging door (outward).

QUOTE(weikee @ Aug 10 2011, 11:09 AM) Yup. Installed on the inside (gap between the door & frame) and opens outwards. It functions exactly like the normal hinges for your bedroom door. The plus is that when the door is closed, both the flaps are closer, thus the gaps between door & frame is smaller. This can be used to address TS's issue |

Kelvyn, the example is the screw-in kind of hinges right? It can be welded? Thank youFor the MS hollow sections frames.
