partly why we go so fast into a new version is coz the first 2-3 pages is dedicated to people reporting in... and congratulating.

QUOTE(nando @ Aug 10 2011, 09:02 AM) am in cross road between IP4 and this...been reading and reading as many posts but am afraid some of it too technical- ROMs, roots, etc, etc... honestly, i think this thread is just too technical.I must say this thread is making it easier to understand as much as possible I know the general consensus is IP4 is better if you want life to be simple-out of box use and Android is superb for people who like tweak, etc.. but its astounding to see the number of S2 users....must be a superb phone and friendly OS... wish me luck in choosing the right model (and trying to understand as much on all the technical stuffs here..) i consider myself to be somewhat IT person... even i find this thread to be 'scary'. for me, i use the phone as it is and i'm not into tweaking, etc... so this thread, while informative... is not really useful. so, i'm not surprised if people who are at crossroad get turned off and come off with the impression that android is for techies... it is not. between those two... i'd say sgs2 is still the better value for money. out of the box, you can use it as it is... no worries. personally, its value for money for many reasons... but best of all... you get the android freedom. you can do what you want with your phone... and not do anything to it. up to you. no silly company dictating why you can't use bluetooth to transfer files, etc... and if you have been using Google services, android is the next step. |

QUOTE(Dark_Angel85 @ Aug 10 2011, 09:12 AM) I'm in the same boat as you are... and rightly so because this is a huge investment. RM2K++ is a big amount no matter who you are. again... i feel there are some misconceptions with:So, the most important is foreseeing how your investment can get better in the future. How you could make it better after a few years of getting it? I've had a lot of chances to fiddle with the iphone4 because many of my friends have them. I would say it's a reallllly good phone for what it can do = an app machine. It's really all about the apps. the phone itself only has the most basic functions and there is nothing in it that you can do to boost it or change it... as time goes by, it gets better i.e. you can get MORE APPS and that just goes on and on.. more apps more apps and that's how it gets better. What I've noticed with android based phones is it can get better in other ways. besides the app store, it can also get better by doing many personal modifications as you would risk. Of course reflashing is always the end thing that you can do once things go wrong but the most important is, you can make the phone better NOT just by adding more apps to it. The one catch that used to separate this obvious plus from iOS is that iOS is tonnes more fluid than any android based phone at that time.... However, the SGSII has proven that it has bridged that part of the separation. It is JUST as fluid as iOS... i dare claim. I feel that that is the most compelling reason why I would also choose to switch to it soon. * apps * modifying to get better there may be more apps over at the fruity side, but do we need 10k of different tower defence apps? the more popular apps... they are usually available on both platforms. angry birds? check. cut the rope? check. also, a few months back, i recall reading an article that said the number of free apps at android is more than the number of free apps over at the other side. with android, develops can opt to give away their apps for free and include ads instead. devs are free to provide two versions -- paid or free (with ads). users can choose. i personally dun mind the ads. and with ads, developers know they need to keep their apps interesting coz if no one opens and uses their apps, it means they dun get $$$. out of the box, sgs2 comes with polaris office. basic tool if you need to do some MS Office work. as for modifying... its more to customise... yes, you can do that... and you can skip it totally. i've been using my phone for more than a month and i still dun see any compelling need for me to root my phone. it works fine the way it is. so... hopefully that clarifies a bit. and here's another way to look at this... people used to want to differentiate themselves from others... that's why many yrs back, nokia was a hit with the customisable covers.... now, it seems everyone ones to be the same. iphone -- 1 same design. always. with android... you get choices -- different brands, models, etc... and if you are adventurous, root and flash! |

QUOTE(nando @ Aug 10 2011, 09:26 AM) thanks to all the 2 bros here for their feedback...or should i say poison..haha! good to hear personal experiences..will update here if i do go for S2... i think he/ she meant the scrolling and moving between home screens. you'd be surprised many iphone users actually comment android phones have this 'problem' -- moving between home screen is not fluid and smooth.Added on August 10, 2011, 9:27 am BTW, when you say fluid you mean the touch screen swiping functions? but i have friends who tested my sgs2 and said they are impressed to moving between home screens and scrolling is sooooOOOoo smooth... like on iphone. is it any wonder why samsung is getting sued?!? lol... |

QUOTE(stormlcc @ Aug 10 2011, 09:48 AM) not really... i dun think its due to brute force (aka processor). the same friends tested the home screen and scrolling on a few other android devices including Asus Transformer tablet (running on dual core Tegra). they found it was not so smooth on the TF and other devices.Added on August 10, 2011, 9:56 am QUOTE(iori57 @ Aug 10 2011, 09:54 AM) Jumping from Iphone to Android is the best choice I've ever made. Only regret I have is didn't do so earlier. That Iphone has too many restrictions till I want to smash it with a hammer. dun have to regret... i think android only started to really be competitive this year... so, now is the time to hop onto the android bandwagon... is it any wonder android handset makers are being sued by apple? Added on August 10, 2011, 10:47 am QUOTE(supermac @ Aug 10 2011, 10:43 AM) i bought a sgs2 from a forumer and it's rooted , i restore it just now , left me without chinese language and input , i wanted to get a offical malaysia rom with chinese , but i search samfirmware x jumpa .. i believe the HKG means Hong Kong rom. that's the one I mentioned earlier about having everything in chinese.so i downloading the 2.3.4 I9100ZNKG5 ## CSC = OZHKG5 EXT4.PIT 2.3.4 China 2011 July can this be used ? no way flashing rom with mac? QUOTE(wkwong77 @ Aug 10 2011, 10:31 AM) I bought my phone with Maxis on 22nd June and yesterday bought another 1 through Digi for my wife. I found mine screen is yellowish and my wife phone's screen is bluish. Both no problem on camera pinkish. best way to check is make sure all at factory settings. you could have changed the display settings...secondly... i noticed some SP may change the colour a bit... so, the Q is... the older phone got SP? QUOTE(exhauster @ Aug 10 2011, 10:44 AM) galaxy SII user reporting in. yes, you will probably get a shocking bill if you dun have a data plan.1 question here.. Will there be alot of charges if I enable my data packet while I did not subscribe any data plan. This is because I found that, once I have connection to wifi, it will automatically find apps whether hv the latest version. Any method to disable it from finding update? Clarification: Find latest update doesn't mean update it, nevertheless it still use up line to find rite. just to share... i once got charged rm20+ for trying out Google Maps on a dumbphone. i didn't have any data plans then. but that phone had google maps... so was trying it out -- to locate myself. i only used twice... and got charged that much! i think its like rm0.10 per kb. what i suggest is... get a data plan. a cheap plan by digi is about less than rm30... i think its called the smart plan lite. |

QUOTE(moleman4eva @ Aug 10 2011, 12:04 PM) haiya! How about 3G then? What version is currently circulating in Malaysia? European version or International version? technically speaking... officially, no such thing as 4G yet. the 4G we see here is more of a branding...mobile? from: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/4G QUOTE Present implementations of WiMAX and LTE are largely considered a stopgap solution that will offer a considerable boost while WiMAX 2 (based on the 802.16m spec) and LTE Advanced are finalized. Both technologies aim to reach the objectives traced by the ITU, but are still far from being implemented. QUOTE The wireless telecommunications industry as a whole has early assumed the term 4G as a short hand way to describe those advanced cellular technologies that, among other things, are based on or employ wide channel OFDMA and SC-FDE technologies, MIMO transmission and an all-IP based architecture. Mobile-WiMAX, first release LTE, IEEE 802.20 as well as Flash-OFDM meets these early assumptions, and have been considered as 4G candidate systems, but do not yet meet the more recent ITU-R IMT-Advanced requirements. QUOTE(10071985 @ Aug 10 2011, 01:03 PM) IIANM digi doesnt't have HSPA+. But you should be able use ur phone under digi for 2g and 3g services as well. i think might have coz sometimes i see E, sometimes i see H on the data icon.QUOTE(cskean @ Aug 10 2011, 01:30 PM) Guys, should I get the SGS2 from DG for RM 1349 with 1 year warranty or RM 1950 for 2 years warranty? personally, i think get from digi... rm600 consider as the price to pay for a new screen if you break it. seems that's the cost for replacement screen. but if motherboard fail... honestly, might cost more. however, it depends on luck la... Any suggestion? |

btw, just wondering... when we save a sms as draft... and later we want to delete it... is there a way to delete that message (could be halfway thru a conversation)? i have not found a way to select and delete the message... need to edit the message, select all and then delete (make the message empty). i find that a bit silly... wish it can be like a normal message where i can select and delete the message (or even thread).

QUOTE(waveweaver @ Aug 10 2011, 03:01 PM) Can, for draft the pop up menu is view contact and delete thread. But remember the magic word, only this tine you have to shout real loud ~~ haha ~~ aiyoh... tipu leh... i tried out just now and all my colleagues look at me like dungu...*kidding* seriously... what i mean is: * i got a conversation for on with say FREN. * i typed one sms but decided not to send yet. so save as draft. now in the conversation thread, there is a draft sms. i can't seem to figure if there is a way to just delete the draft sms. at the moment, when viewing the thread, the draft sms will be in the text box and i will have to select ALL text and then delete. what i was hoping is a way like in the conversation thread, just press and hold the message you want to delete and the option appears... |
