My bro bought sgs2, the weird thing is the market is not the same as my arc..

He bought sme set, and I can't even find dolphin browser on the market, facebook for android also...

And I notice his kernel version got something like word dell, root..

And his build number stated gingerbread.

Is it normal? He bought it at sunway wor, the shop which gives 18 months warranty...

1. Villain rom you must root first to get cwm, before you flash the rom from recovery. Furthermore, vilain included some tweak which may confuses new users. For litening, a beginner just need to flash zip file directly from Odin. It will auto root for you.

2. Benny advises that as a starter, litening rom is easier to flash. Just get Odin and flash. CM7 is built on android open source project which is completely diffirent from Samsung based built, which mean you must know which app, kernel does not work with CM7. As quoted from xda forum, " if you don't know what you are doing, stay away from it". You may want to read a lot before you flash cm7 but not very tough once you understand.

3. Get the latest, I think still version 5.0

4. Yes please get a SD card. Using cwm to backup will go to externel SD card.

I'll try to answer most of your question though i still at stock rom :-P

1) - Ppl always advice go for Litening if you want to try custom rom because flashing Litening is the most simplest way for you in order to get a) root b) superuser c) busybox d) CWM e) nice custom rom with one go. This rom wont wipe anything so you wont lost any of your precious data.

2) - CM7 is basically a rom that are void of any Samsung things. It's more as an AOSP rom plus additional tweaks.

3) - Yes, for Litening rom the bigger number the latest it is though it doesn't mean the more stable it is :-P

Can someone help me? im on stock ROM and my battery drains very fast. im on 70% last night around 11:30PM then when i woke up around 5:30AM, its already on 35%.. any help would be appreciated

- i turned off all running services in the background before i went to sleep

By the way im using setcpu and tegrak overclock and its running on MAX: 500 MIN: 200.

First of all, did your market version is the same with your brother one?
1) - The latest version for Android market is 3.0.27. But for either version you sould have no problem finding Facebook for Android and Dolphin browser.
2) - Yes, most stock phone has dell and root wording at its kernel version. But that doesn't necessarily mean it is rooted :-)
3) - Of course every SGSII is Gingerbread. As long as it is 2.3 then it's Gingerbread, no matter if it 2.3.3, 2.3.4 or 2.3.5 :-P

If you have turn off everything then the drain is abnornal. You may want to look at battery usage and see what items drain most.

Not sure if you adjust voltages using tegrak, you may accidentally increase the values?

If you have use your phone for a while, probably you want to calibrate your battery state after a full charge.

Ok let me test my understanding here.

To root and flash:

1.enter downloading mode on sgs2
2.download odin
3.follow the steps and root
4.dload cwm from android market
5.backup
6.use odin to load litening rom
7.flash litening rom
8.dont like the rom
9.open cwm and restore

Yes, the market version is the same. Weird thing is normal apps that can be found on market can't be found on my bros sgs2.. even when trying through the browser, it will said the requested item could not be found.. I have to manually give him the apk from my arc...

I think on both google map version 5.8.0 and 5.7.0 is enable navigation. Maybe CM7 got something to do with it? You can get back your old version by uninstall update.
To do this you go to Setting > applications > manage applications > all > open maps > uninstall updates

Hey noobie here, please HELP!!!

1) For the past few days, my Gmail stops syncing and pushing emails thru the SOCIAL HUBS. (have been using it for 1.5 month without problem)

2) I can't even do it manually as it is forever in refreshing mode and nothing shows up when there is actually unread emails in the inbox as i check using my PC.

3) Sometimes when it did sync, it pushes thru emails dated few days back n all of the sudden i get 30 emails simultaneously.

4) I can't even send emails too using the gmail account.

5) The other outlook and hotmail account are not affected and works normally.

6) Using the Gmail app is fine tho, but i preferred to use the social hub as I got 4 emails accounts.

Any solutions?

That's weird. Try clear up your brother market cache. Go to Setting > applications > manage application > all > open market > clear cache.

I understand, but i calibrated last wednesday but it wasnt 100% battery full though. i tried to reset the default kernel settings on tegrak its back and running @1.2ghz.

Will monitor for a while. Will update this post.

Thank you so much. After uninstall updates it get back to my old version 5.7 own here. Hope the map won't auto update again this, else I will need to uninstall update every time, or restore via TB.

If you get amp update from Google, you won't get navigation working in malaysia. Google navigation is not supported in Malaysia yet. So I got to install map 5.7.0 ownhere.apk as stated in page FAQ.

First of all, do you only want to root you phone in order to get root, superuser, busybox and CWM but dont want any custom rom ( exp. Litening ) ? Then you can use Chainfire CF-root in order to get all that MINUS the custom rom.
But if you want to try Litening rom then download Odin and flash Litening through Odin. You'll get all the above in ONE go without need to do backup as Litening rom didn't wipe you data. You dont even need to download CMW at market :-P ( as your step 4 )
I think you better read page 1 about rooting and flashing first. Or you can expand your knowledge by reading how to root your phone at xda thread itself.
Just saying

root using CF-Root will install CWM on your phone..so no need dload from market..then you backup .other step okay..but another thing if you want to add, dload Titanium Backup, backup all your apps first if just incase you in bootloop or need to wipe...and also dload sms backup to backup all your sms and call log if you need that..also...sync your contact with your gmail..

Bro, you need to charge to 100% before you calibrate.

i recommned using K-9 email. better than stock email...i used social hub last time also..but facing the same problem like yours...i read someway it's a known issue as sometime social hub network is down...when you used K9 email, i guarantee you will not used stock email anymore..i used 4 email as well using K9 email..no problem ..more options i might add

I see, im in the office right now and the phone is 10% already, will try to charge 100% then try to recalibrate, will update this thread..

im thinking of flashing the ROM now.. hmmm.. but i still wanna enjoy the stock..
