QUOTE(c010 @ Aug 14 2011, 12:54 AM) Uncle Benny, Of course can get from other telcos too. As I am no longer in the buying status, has forgotten Digi only recently offer it. Celcom : not even aware they too has such SGS II on offer ??i think its a bit unfair to other telco. why only limit to Maxis? what about Celcom or Digi? YES - ALL rooting alone will NOT change or delete any of your data. ROOTINGF will NEVER and I'd say IMPOSSIBLE to spoil your phone unless you has really tons of bad luck. Please READ page 1 post #5 first topic on rooting to understandThis post has been edited by benny888: Aug 14 2011, 01:03 AM |

QUOTE(smecksy @ Aug 14 2011, 12:48 AM) HI, I am planning to get the SGSII. This will be my first Android phone. I have spent a lot of time researching before deciding to jump into this ecosystem. But I still have some questions about it: 1) DiGi =/= maxis, they not suck blood company, after usage quota of 3gb u will be throttled down to 128kbps, from experience, just reconnect a few times and u will get ur fast speed back 1) In Digi's 12month contract plan, it states we get unlimited internet for 68RM per month. I asked Digi sales rep if there are any qoutas when using the net, and if I will get billed extra. He said I can use the net as much as I want for RM 63. For me this is too good to be true. And I really doubt it is. So anyone that can clarify this? 2) I have seen people opening threads saying they can't buy paid apps from the Android market without 'rooting' their phones. I am totally new to the concept of rooting, and even after doing some lengthy research I am still abit dazed. There are so many ROMs how do we know which ones are good? Doesn't the Android Market work for Malaysia or do we have to flash our ROM to a firmware of a different location for us to get the Apps to work??? Any good ROMs you would recommend to a beginner that also allows you to install non-free apps?? 2) paid apps is avaliable in msia. read page 1 read and read and read, best u read the definition first, what is rom what is kernal what is baseband what is csc, there's a link in page 1 explaining in detail every one of it. beginner rom i would suggest lite-ning |

But I still have some questions about it: Yes the RM 63 is unlimited up to 3GB. Above it, your download speeds goes down to 128kbps. It is all clearly stated in their website and in the brochure when you sign up for it. You will not be billed any extra. You trust us than the DIGI guys ?? to answer your question1) In Digi's 12month contract plan, it states we get unlimited internet for 68RM per month. Doesn't the Android Market work for Malaysia or do we have to flash our ROM to a firmware of a different location for us to get the Apps to work??? Any good ROMs you would recommend to a beginner that also allows you to install non-free apps?? You can buy most of the apps in Malaysia now. The market was freed up about 2 months ago. However, certain apps might not appear , so to overcome this limitation, you need to root phone and install market enabler to fake a foreign eg USA telco. You need NOT flash rom to make this happen. Any rom , stock or cook makes no difference. The difference is only in their version of Market - some are uptodate while some still using older versions There is NO best rom; as in everything in life there are pro n cons. You just got to experiemnt test yourself and assess which is best. Ask 10 users, you will get at least 5 different answers I always recommend Litening to beginners and I always advised beginners STAY AWAY from Villan |

This is why I went to Digi to ask them directly, the person I talked to barely gave me a detailed answer. He told me 'Yes, yes its unlimited, no worry even if you use a lot" he never told me abt the quota and the speed cap that comes after you cross it. Makes the pricing more sensible now.Anyway thank you so much for the detailed clarification and for the ROM advise benny888 ill definitely look into it. |

QUOTE(destEX @ Aug 14 2011, 12:45 AM) Yeah Iw as thinking of that too! Really appreciate Uncle Benny being here. Really spend so much time helping newbies and even members of LYN. I learned the hard way that, unlimited data means unlimited data of 3G (for example) until a certain quota such as 5GB. Once hit that, your speed goes down but you can still access internet FOC. This is how people make money lo Anyway thank you so much for the detailed clarification and for the ROM advise benny888 ill definitely look into it. 1.Hi why does one say get litening and stay away from villain for beginner? If they way to root for.both are the same than why does one say that that the latter are not for begginner?
2.how about cyanogenmod7 compared to litening? 3.there are many version of litening which are for which or the bigger the number the latest it is? 4. i understand that in order to backup the rom i need a clockworkmod; -what is clockworkmod image? -do i need an sdcard to backup and image gile of my current os before flash a new os?
