The reason I wrote academic staff and not lecturer/tutor/professor/etc etc... is because, there are a lot of terms out there.

Scenario:

I am heading for my PhD studies in IMage processing , a branch of electronics engineering in USM on 1st of October.
I am signing up for the fast track programme as provided for 1st class honors student. Thus, I will not have any working experience as I graduated with PHD.

(does working 2.5 months in Agilent consider as experience? HAHAHA)

Question:

What will be my starting salary in IPTA/IPTS when i graduated with this PHD from USM.

for academic staff at IPTA it started with grade DS45 which is young lecturer. the maximum grade is DS54 which is associate professor. above than DS54 is called special grade/jusa A,B,C..

for DS45 grade P1T1,minimum salary is RM2213.96 (working with govment they will pay your salary with additional cent )
maximum is P3T21 which is RM5316.40

for DS51 grade P1T1, minimum is RM3976.93 and maximum is P3T10 RM6112.58

for DS52 P1T1 RM3976.93 and P2T10 is RM6112.58

the different between DS51 and DS52 is the amount of additional allowances such as house allowances,etc and also DS52 is easier to get maximum salary compare to DS51

for DS53 grade P1T1 minimum is RM4210.46 and maximum is P3T10 RM6476.79

for DS54 the amount of minimum and maximum salary are same like DS53 but with shorter range which is only P1 and P2 and also amount of additional allowance.


p/s: DS45- DS52 is from young lecturer to senior lecturer
DS53 - DS54 is associate professor


i dont have the latest data but these is just as comparison.

If I am not mistaken, there is a circular stating that all PhD holders will start at DS52. Need to confirm this.

DS52 is a senior lecturer grade and only those who have achieve required qualification stated by the university will be promoted to this level. PHd holder still will be started as grade DS45 but with salary slightly higher than master degree holder which is at least P1T4 level.

How long will it take to hit RM10k with allowances a month?

Do you need 20 years of service or lesser?

Just curious.

depend on how much your academic publication, conducted research, working paper or every contribution to your university/college or faculty.. if your contributions quality is approved by the faculty or university your chance to be promoted into higher grade or salary level is high. to hit RM10k with allowances is depend on your efforth mostly..some hardworking or excellent lecturer only take about 4-5 years to get associate professor title or obtain salary more than RM8k a month and that's not included their consultation allowances or royalties from publication,etc.. for contribution on text book writing they will receive at least 15% of the book price from the publisher.

Do you have the detail breakdown of salary for each stage between minimum and maximum that you have stated?

Graduated with PHD and start at DS52, paid 4k+- is still quite low weiiii....My expectation was 6k++ for starter~ As my lecturer from UNITEN told me that PHD holder will easily earn more than 6 to 7 K!

Nope, no bond

If that is the case, dont limit yourself to IPTAs only. IPTS like Monash and nottingham are paying big bucks.
