Will I be flayed for resurrecting a dead thread? Lol

Planning to get a used year 2011 (or newer) version of this van. Any current owners still exist here?
*
-Bought a Starex in 2010. at that time no option either this brand new Starex or 2nd hand japanese mpv.

-Until now still running good

-Current mileage 260,xxx km

-No major part change, still using the same engine, injectors, radiators and transmission, etc

-Eventhough its big, it has one of the smallest turning radius, easier to maneuver definitely tighter than my E66 and XC90

-This mpv slightly hard setting (shocks) so if you driving less than 4 people, can feels slight bumpy, but put 4 or more people with luggage really makes the mpv stable

-Has no problem using new Euro 5 diesel (infact less vibration and felt torqier)

-Just dont use petronas diesel, most probably endup with clogged diesel filter (me kena twice) or worst case clogged injector

-If possible get newer than 2011, because this earlier model, SDAC were testing water, the spec slightly basic compared to newer model

My dad owned this van (1st generation), encounter only one major problem.
Starter circuit board terbakar. Cost to fix around 2.5k to replace the board only.

Other problems is minor one, filter clogged, screw reput, can't start due to gear not placed at P properly.

Good thing is diesel murah. Comfortable when jalan jauh/ family trip.

One more thing, the steering will vibrate when you brake at high speed 140km/h>
*
- check your brake disc, mine never have steering vibration issue when breaking at any speed. Do ask the mech to check it using surface depth gauge, not just using mata n raba2.

Good to know. How much would it cost for maintenance, yearly? Apparently there's a diesel filter that I would have to worry about too, right?

Off topic, seems that 2011/2012 even 2013 Santa Fe prices are not so bad too haha. Decisions2...
*
-My car no longer covered by warranty ( I technically void the warranty after 15,000km when I decided to send it to my personal mech rather than to hyundai A.S.C)

-maintenance depend on your mileage

-do oil change n oil filter on 5,000km (ish) sometime slightly higher and I just use semi-syn (7 liter)

-DPF (diesel filter) around rm100, they recommend every 10,000km, I personally extend it to 15,000km ( 1 time every 3 engine oil change)

-@200,000km I did change all the shocks (start to have small leaks) and to ensure reliability, waterpump, thermostats and v belts were also replaced.

-Parts you can get cheaper, buy from mk auto/v super auto or hankook (lyn seller)

-on personal note, this vehicle is one off the hassle free vehicle I've ever own.

-one thing you need to be careful, is the car lower front lips. Its actually lower than the car ground clearance. You can easily langgar parking divider if you re not careful.

-As for Santa Fe, I never own one, they used smaller engine (2.2 crdi) but have higher torque output than Starex.

Isn't 5000km drain interval too short?
Even mineral HDEO like R4X/Urania/delo  also can do 10000km, not to mention your semi syn HDEO.
In USA/Canada, freight trucks even do 100,000km using premium synthetic blend HDEOs. Considering hot humid weather here in M'sia, i think cutting the OCI to a quarter ( 25,000km )should not be a problem.
*
-I'm not sure the bizol engine oil that I used can be categorized as HDEO, but it certainly can be used for starex engine

-after one of my car got engine problem and massive leaks, because the dealer says oil change interval is at 25,000km (something like that), Since then I prefer to do shorter interval engine oil change for all my cars, semi (5,000 -7,500km) fully (10,000-12,000km)

What's the official Hyundai recommended service interval? Surely not 25k?

One more thing, how's the sound proofing, given that you're dealing with diesel?
*
-Not hyundai, the 25k service interval was bmw. As for Hyundai Starex, recommended service interval are 5,000km with fully syn oil. But I just used semi syn and kept the interval around 5,000-7,500km

-As for starex sound insulation, its not bad. You can still hear the diesel clatering slightly when idle.

How come your starex so problematic ? Is the car having issue since you bought it (lemon car) ? Also may I know whats is you car mileage ?

Im quite surprised, I consider it one of the most reliable car and least downtime compared to my other car I currently own.

First batch starex in Malaysia, mileage 300K already. Problems start when mileage reach 200K.
