Hello there Amirul, I'm William rclxms.gif I'm a private student, so not a scholarship holder at the moment. I also did not see directions to V6(probably missed it) while finding V5 to cari my friend haha. I guess they are far from each other then. But I have a question, if I'm not wrong the V's are super far from the resource centre right? So how do UTP-ians usually travel to study there? Since I think it's one of the best places to study in UTP  drool.gif haha. I'm looking forward very much for MAS and meeting you too! The first chinese dude who intros himself as William should be none other than me. rclxm9.gif Good luck for your finals and kick ass!

Hi, V6 is the first village you see if you drive into UTP from the guard house, it it towards your left (lakeside), take the first roundabout turning to the left.

As for V5, it is on the opposite end of V6, by leg, it should take about 10-15minutes of leisurely walk. Kinda far for me.

V6, V1 and V2 is the closest to the resource centre, based on my estimation.

When I was studying there, I used to have a bicycle to move around the campus, however I encountered plenty of problem with it (broken bike, stolen and found again, etc). In the end, I just use my leg. Before I graduated, I saw that many juniors have the own bicycle, probably you want to consider it.

Have fun studying smile.gif

Thank you  notworthy.gif I did saw bicycles in the vicinity of the villages and being from KL I'm not used to seeing college cyclers haha, but I will consider that. One more question, is the main entrance the ONLY opening in/out of UTP? Like is there one nearby certain villages? Once more thank you and hope you're enjoying life too.  thumbup.gif

I would say yes, although we actually have one main entrance, and another back entrance use mostly by UTP bus when they go to Pasar Malam every Wednesday. So just bear in mind although we have two, majority of UTPians use only the main one.

I believe all new intake students will be placed together at V6, so we can mix around more haha. Hope you get it ! rclxms.gif

I believe so too. The other V3, V4, V5 is full of seniors. And some juniors are still longing to move from v2 and v6 to there. So, please wait for your turn smile.gif

Just be careful of your belongings and valuables such as laptops, kensington lock or whatever lock you can find is good as precaution

Do you remember when did you get moved to either V3, V4, or V5? Was it during the start of 2nd year of undergraduate studies? I want an apartment to live in  biggrin.gif haha.
*
I think I was stuck in V2 for a year (previously 2 semester). But I was happy there though, single room for myself biggrin.gif
Then I straight moved into V5, got lucky smile.gif

But that was years ago. I graduated in October 2010 by the way smile.gif

What do u meant by ICT facilities? to be more exact, what is your expectation towards the "ICT Facilities?". Is it study or non study related?
*
ICT facilities. Well, I agree with Ray that we need to know what kind of facilities you were expecting. If you are talking merely about a computer to do programming, it is sufficient, we have Virtual Reality tools and gloves so that's not a problem.

However, let me warn you ICT and Computer Science is 2 totally different thing. If you were hoping to get into Computer Science, be a real programmer, UTP is not for you. We do have really good programmer from our university but the course is focusing on producing a graduate who are able to apply ICT into business world, rather than having a really good programmer.

I hope I set the right expectation for you.

Can I survive my first year without a vehicle in UTP ?
*
I survived 4 and a half year, from start till graduation without a vehicle smile.gif
Hard but possible, had bicycle earlier in my life, then used my leg.
Then towards final year, some of my friends had cars, sometimes asked for help if I needed transportation, but yeah, it is possible. Bought a car when I started working tongue.gif

Allow me to add (just remembered tongue.gif ).
If you really have to travel by car, you may rent cars for usage, cost is affordable, 40-80 depending on type of cars per 12 hours. Then you can go to various place with the car.

The total cost, including petrol & toll (if any) will be a bit high, but managable if you can get 5 person into the car to share out the cost.

Of course, this option is not viable, if you are thinking to go out for an hour or two to nearby town to buy groceries or get something done. In this case, I believe most people would have a motorcycle to do the job.

Just bear in mind when travelling in motorcycle to be extra careful of cows & buffaloes. I lost count of the number of cases where student lost their life driving or riding and involved in accidents with the animals.

Good luck for those starting their new life in UTP.

Food: RM 10 per day is enough. Hence, that could translate to about RM300 per month, addition of phone bill maybe just RM30, skip all the entertainment to ipoh (or kept to minimum) your expenses won't be more than RM400. Life in Uni means you'll need to be smart of your expenses smile.gif

Dress code: You may find that in the Uni Rule Book, I think they still distribute it to all new joiners. Otherwise what crazeed mention is correct. No shorts, no round neck (only collar T). Matric card to be worn at all times. Summon is RM 30.

Coverage: Maxis is ok too, but as you move from places to places, there might be certain place in the uni where some telco coverage is slightly bad. Example in room my bed has bad Maxis line, but if I walked over to my room mate's side the line is ok... (strange but true)

Timetable planning: What kind of guide you need in timetable planning?
Normally you don't ask for senior's help, but you work it out with your coursemate or friends, so that you all ended up in the same class together smile.gif Easier to be grouped into group assignments etc...
But if you have general questions regarding timetable planning, why not try to post here and see if someone able to help you with it or not.

Cheers

Yeap, ejatidiaz is correct. No DC++ for V6 since it is on Wifi.
On the bright side, it means more time for studying smile.gif

I think what he meant is that MAS come afterwards. MAS is the orientation week. Educamp is the interview session plus a bit of fun.

So I believe you don't have to educamp after your interview, but if you're accepted in, you'll need to go MAS, or the orientation week.

Whether you are accepted or not, for local students, they can check in the web tool, however I am unsure for international students. You may clarify with them when you do your interview.

Science questions, not sure. As far as my memory goes, no. But I could be wrong for 2 reasons.

1. My memory is wrong and I am getting old.
2. They did changed the format. After all it was years back lol.
