mine was like they put you into groups of 5.. they give u and your group member some papers that have a similar topic but different task.. for example its about drought, u got to explain the cause of it while your friend have to line up a few solutions to prevent drought. U guys can list it on a piece of paper and they will give you a few mins to discuss with your group member. Later they will put you into another room where you wait for your turn to be interviewed. the first part was individually. after all of your group members had finished, they will call in all of you for a group interview. my tips: talk as much as you can.. they dont give a damn on your powderful england or brilliant ideas, just want to see how effective you work with each other based on your task.

The interview format you mentioned is very similar to the MUET Speaking test. Is it MUET ?

I see. Is that means that the selection is not over yet? Because I already received the offer letter and it stated that this coming 22th we will have to register and undergo orientation for 4 days, yet I have never been interviewed by UTP. So my guess is during the orientation they will interview us and if the students is not up to their standard, they will do something about it hmm.gif .

hmm I would like to know whether UTP takes foundation student from other Uni for their degree program? eg Uniten.

I planned to finish my foundation in engineering in Uniten then continue to pursue my degree in Petroleum Engineering in UTP. Is that possible? blush.gif
*
Yes, it is possible. Got few students taking bachelor degree direct from UNITEN foundation.

To anyone else who got an offer this May, do we really need to bring CERTIFIED akademik/ko-kurikulum certificates during registration day?because I thought the ones we sent during application period would suffice, I find it troublesome to go again actually haha. Anyone else may advise too please.
*
No, you just need to bring all ORIGINAL supported documents (SPM certs, Diploma certs, Co-cu, etc). Because registrar department might want to see them during registration.

UTP do have holidays during public holidays. But don't expect long holidays, as UTP now is using tri-semester system, thus extra holidays are quite few. Even study week is less than 7 days.

Food in UTP is varies from less expensive to moderate. If you eat rice with few dishes probably cost you RM 5 per meal. UTP has Malay, Arab, Western.

Laundry machine RM 2/per use if I'm not mistaken.
Laundry service RM 2 per kg.

Stuff like stationary? Junk Food? UTP has groceries shop inside the campus. But if you have transport probably would be better go to Tesco Seri Iskandar.

Roughly RM 400 ~ RM600 per month is sufficient for average student.

Yes, in UTP there is also 1 shop that sell computer peripherals (mouse, usb, lan cable). Shops at Village 5 residents.

You can just reply the offer letter via email. Try to call UTP and ask them. For the registration fee I think you can pay on the day of the registration at UTP, but I suggest you pay it earlier because it could be very crowded.

Thanks for your kind reply.what is the dress code to be wore when in lecture class ? Here it mentions Baju kemeja lengan panjang putih, tie, slack, formal leather shoes. Do we need to be so serious in dress code ? I mean when in class..confused here..or i misinterpret the message ? Sorry for asking many questions @@
*
Np problem. During lecture you can wear casual clothes like collared shirt with jeans. You can't wear T-Shirt and slippers tho.

Baju Kemeja Lengan Panjang putih is only compulsory to be wear during MAS week (orientation week).

Be serious in dress code? During MAS week do wear the Baju Kemeja Lengan Panjang. If during lecture, its depend on yourself, there is saying "you are not guilty until you are caught". If you are caught wearing inappropriate clothes by the Security Guard be prepared to pay RM 30 per summon LOL.

Class will start after you finished MAS week. Don't worry too much.

suggestions for mobile network company, with good signal coverage.

as i am international student, coming for this Jan intake.

If u get to stay at village 4 or 5, I suggest P1 wimax. If not take Celcom. If you want really fast network take Yes 4G, tho its quite expensive.

do we need to bring like our cups or plates or cutlery when we stay in the hostel? and does utp have wifi and izzit fast?..izzit on  for 24/7?
*
You can bring cups and plates if you intend to eat/drink in your room, if not you can just walk to nearest canteen to grab some food. UTP do equipped with internet (Wireless or LAN) at most hostels, class, library, cafes and etc. Its up time is 24/7 unless there is maintenance. Its not fast for download, torrent, video streaming, its just good enough for normal web browsing.

Try Skype in the morning after 3am, that time the network is fastest because less people use.

hi, how's the facilities for E & E? i just sat for my SPM (2012) and am choosing higher ed institutions. how does UTP fair against nottingham or monash?
*
I would say facilities of EE in UTP is fine. Most of the basic EE stuff are provided here. However once you enter 3rd or 4th year, you will be majoring in specific major either communication, control instrument, microprocessor, embedded, and power. During this 3rd and 4th year you will realise that the equipment are not sufficient or up to date. How do I know? I am EE student here, cool2.gif biggrin.gif

From what I hear, the best facilities in UTP is Chemical. Others engineering facilities is sufficient.

Nottingham vs Monash vs UTP. This is like UK ed vs Aus ed vs Malaysia ed, LOL. Ill just state briefly what I feel about these 3 Universities.

From what I know, Nottingham provide 3 years Bachelor for Engineering but its not BEM accredited because of the duration of studies. If you want to become professional engineering (BEM), you have to extend another 1 year of study there and get Master in Eng. So you can obtain master at young age.

Monash education most likely the same as UTP, 4 years of Bachelor Degree. Few times prof, and lecturers from Monash came to UTP giving adjunct lecture here.

While UTP, we have the best industrial connections especially OnG companies like Hallirbuton, Shell, Schlumberger, and etc. This probably because of PETRONAS connections with the other OnG company in Malaysia. Intel also always come to UTP looking fresh grades.

For me, if you want to work as professional Engineer after you grade, you should go to UTP. But if you want to further your studies to take PHD and becoming Dr, go for Nottingham or Monash, its faster and easier for you to further studies overseas.

hey all, a few question to ask~

does the mas week really last for 1 week? Is there really that much activity to be carried out?

Do I need to bring my laptop during the mas week?

2 student in one room right?

Is there many club for co-curricular activity?what is the hottest one?
*
1. Yes MAS will last about a week, might be less than that.
2. The activity will not be extreme, just simple introduction of University, leadership program, childish games, and drama.
3. You can bring your laptop, but it will probably be seated in your locker for the whole week, unless you have the strength to online every night after MAS end.
4. Yes, maximum of 2 students in a room. You may find your desired roommate on the registration day.

QUOTE(ooiwbng @ Jan 9 2013, 12:41 AM)
since the 3rd and 4th year equipment are outdated and not sufficient, what disadvantage will i have?
*
It might be a problem when you start doing 3rd and 4th year lab work and also final year project. Technology nowadays grows too fast, especially EE. Usually university cant cope with it. But as I said earlier, for basic learning its there. It does not matter if we have advance machine but we cant master basic , right?

UTP do accept foundation from UTAR and UNITEN. In fact UTP have accepted many students from different Universities local and also overseas. How do I know? Because a lot of my classmate is from various kind of Universities with various kind of qualifications, including myself.

I hope this will clear your doubts.
