Most probably use fansubbing tool such as Aegisub (http://www.aegisub.org/)
Myself also use Aegisub. Aegisub is tool to assist you creating a subtitle. Later, you need to merge the video & subtitle before uploading to Youtube. |

You can also use Windows Movie Maker if you don't have the appropriate software to do so.
Just click the caption and adjust the timings |

can be done using video editing software(Windows Movie Maker) or fan sub software(aegisub as mentioned above).

if u just want to open it on the media player, u can just do it manually via the notepad. Just make sure u time it properly.
u can use existing srt files as a guide |
