The Monkey King 西遊記之大鬧天宮 (2014)

1st act, which explains about Nu Wa was actually decent, and then the movie fell apart...

Too ambitious, poor execution...

Very expensive production, and CGI is not poor, just poorly executed. In Hollywood, the high end production will spend alot of time getting the CGI creature movements right, here... that is where the production fail and spectacular at that.

Is there really a need for the fox spirit character. Without it will Donnie Yen seem gay?? *Sigh*

The Good

The start of the story.

The Bad

Insincere CGI
Some battle scene are Immortals (2011) inspired... Talk about the blind leading the blind...
Er Lang Shen
Chow Yuen Fatt is really bad at Picking roles now (Dragonball anyone??)... Please stop being associating with The Pilgrim To The West material...
Aaron Kwok as the main baddie... REALLY???

The Ugly

Everything Else

Really, there is going to be part deux???

Constantine (2005)

I am going straight to the point here, I LOVE this movie.

I understand it bombed from the perspective of box office, still I like this movie.

It is being categories as a fantasy horror, and it defines the movie pretty well.

Keanu Reeves is John Constantine, much to the horror of the comic book fans, and I think he did a great job. I think the comic fans wanted something more edgy (Constantine is a chain smoking, foul mouth, could not careless & yellow trenchcoat wearing con man/mystic!!) and Keanu is not quite that, but I like him in the role. Hope that clears up his character... laugh.gif

Rachel Weisz is the lady lead and as always Shia LaBeouf the awkward side kick... have you noticed that that is the ONLY role he plays, no matter what movie he is in... laugh.gif

It is a shame that the movie did not do well in the box office. I would have love a sequel to this movie.

Will Disney/Marvel tearing up the box office with their comics material, maybe it is time Warner/DC rethink their Vertigo material... Sandman maybe??...

Conspiracy Theory (1997)

Wow, I am on a "R" binge!! laugh.gif

Again, a blast from the past and one I also like very much

Julia Roberts was at her peak. Mel Gibson before he is hated!! And Patrick Stewart... before he was Professor X!! tongue.gif

I have missed Richard Donner. John Schwartzman cinematography was great, Kevin Stitt & Frank J. Urioste edit were spot on and Carter Burwell score was lots of fun!!

Imagine Looney Tunes meets Alfred Hitchcock! That pretty much sums up this movie for me!! laugh.gif

If you have not watched this before, do yourself a favour and watch it!!

I wanna hold you so much
You know why I'm singing this when you watch the movie. Enjoy

ya watch already, but i still like the script of Sinister...
really hope got type of Sinister movie~ can really make me fear~ sweat.gif

Well, in terms of "shock" value, the death scenes in Sinister is pretty gruesome. Actually, if you seen Rigor Mortis (2013), some part of me gave me similar "shock" value...

The Secret Life of Walter Mitty (2013)

Want to escape a dreary life?

If you do, why not give The Secret Life of Walter Mitty to do it for you?

Very well written, well acted and very well executed!

Say what you want about Ben Stiller, his movies can have very meaningful messages in them, and this movie have spades of it!

Everything in the movie is so well thought out. From the storyline to the camera work, the getting the right actors for the different roles!!

Additionally, having Life Magazine as the basis for the movie is simply brilliant!!

Do yourself a favour, what ever point in life you are at, watch this movie!!

Did not particularly like the new Evil Dead. As a matter of fact, I did not even enjoy the original one. I much rather to watch movies like The Cabin in the Woods (2012)! It kept me on my toes... (trying to figure out what t he heck is going on...)

the scenes is very poignant with all the beautiful places, ben stiller is much well suited in this kind of mv rather than comedy i would say, and sean pen is so epic despite having only a couple of minutes appearances.
*
Yes, Sean Penn is amazing in this!

no mindless gun blazing things blowing up action flick.
thus my iq don't register anything impressive with it. tho my wife did cried biggrin.gif

3/5. because nothing blew up. tongue.gif
*
Hahaha! Yes, nothing blew up. I suppose one has to be familiar with the movie Mary Poppins (Again nothing blows up) to fully appreciate this.

The fact that nothing blew up and u still gave it a 3/5 is a really testament that it is a very well made movie!

Cheers

Gattaca is so underrated!ethan hawke+jude law is a crazy talent combo. im currently on dumbing down pure entertainment movie, cause watched movie with deep meaning alot earlier this year via roger ebert movie reviews.
*
*Sigh* like everything nowadays, profit is king, which explains that sequels is a safe course, especially if the first movie is profitable, which means "original" material hardly get made...

Sad really...

oh yeah i know the top movies of recent 2010 upwards i would suggest that u somehow will reflect upon your life would be the-- kid with a bike (2011) we need to talk about kevin (2011) The hunt (2012) Incendies (2010) amour(2012) Her (2013) Reality (2012) about time (2013) melancholia (2011) moonrise kingdom (2012) like someone in love (2012) never let me go (2010) somewhere (2010) if u have the time try dl and watch and give me your opinion, some is more of an artsy movie rather than just straight heavy punchline drama (artsy in term of cinematography) oh and samsara (2011) is so beautiful to watch despite being an art with motion pics.
*
Wow. Quite a list.

I have watched and reviewed We Need to Talk About Kelvin (2011) and Samsara (2011, Have you watched Baraka (1992)?). If you like Samsara you should also consider Koyaanisqatsi (1982), Powaqqatsi (1988), Naqoyqatsi (2002, my least favourite) & Chronos.

The only issue with the above is that they have never been properly restored (my opinion) for HD although I believe they were shot in 75mm...

Will look the rest up, thanks.

tony jaa is back in tom yum goong 2 or protector 2. 10 years later, tony is as agile and energetic as he was in ong bak.

i thought ongbak2, ongbak3 and tom yum goong were weak sequels and spinoffs.

tyg2 is more watchable - impossible stunts, more and better fighters albeit a weak story and poor acting by foreign actors.

one thing i noticed - not about rza but a guy named mareese crump - great fighter, seems to be well rounded in several types on martial arts incl wing chun.

stunts, punches and kicks... 4/5. story, drama... 2/5.

remember spl 殺破狼 with donnie yen, sammo hung, simon yam and wu jing? looking forward to seeing tony jaaa in spl2 or kill zone 2 with simon yam and wu jing next year.  wink.gif

Thanks for this. Will look out for it.

Thank goodness Donnie Yen is not in SPL2!! He had gotta way TOO big headed...

I like Wu Jing's work. Had liked him since Tai Chi II (1996)

he's very good, think he's from the same wushu academy as jet li in beijing.
first saw him in legend of zu, then spl, fatal move, shaolin.
i had thought wu jing wud be the right successor to jet li but seems he's not making it big, yet.

there was bruce lee->jackie chan->jet li->donnie yen.

only donnie yen remains kungfu active, still good but a bit bigheaded, i agree... biggrin.gif

there seems to be no promising wushu experts on the screen at the moment. there are a few good looking guys from china, taiwan and north america who can move a bit but are just actors without good martial arts background.

and all those fake ipmans incl tony leung and anthony wong... i find them so very poor...!! tongue.gif

There is this young kid from the movie Triad Wars (2008) aka "Fatal Move" (he play a memeber of the triad. During the prison escape he died!!). He is pretty good. Unfortunately, with his looks... more suited for the "bad" guy... laugh.gif

I Still Know What You Did Last Summer (1998)

Where I Know What You Did Last Summer (1997) has Sarah Michelle Gellar, Ryan Phillippe, Anne Heche etc, this movie has Jack Black & Brandy??

Please note that the ABOVE is NOT a compliment...

This movie followed hot at the heels of it more successful predecessor, and in a word it's story is... INSIPID!!

This doo doo was made with USD 65,000,000 and DID NOT MAKE BACK IT'S MONEY AT THE BOX OFFICE.

I hope my stance on this movie is perfectly clear...

AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE.
