How's the performance compared to my Edifier S730D? Really liking the wooden look of the AE 5+. How much is it here? hmm.gif

A5+ rm1500 at digital audio studio

i have audioengine 2...duplicate signature sound as a5...what i can say...smooth mid....sweet high....decent low....[refinement of singer's vocal very2 good(some say it was exceptional)...it was like he singing in front of us]

you will also find that A5's sound very clean and help you to differentiate each instrument in music...separation of them is excellent....

want compare with s730d...it's really different league..better you go hear urself...

that all my though <-- noobie

I see, thanks! Where can I go and try it? But I heard the bass is weak?
*
that y i say bro....if u wan compare a5 with edifier s730d...it totally different league...cuz edifier got subwoofer....it is 2.1 system...but a5 is 2.0 system...it mean the bass will very weak if wan compare with the edifier.....
in 2.0 category then....a5 is one of the best speaker in provide bass... smile.gif

however...u still can add subwoofer later on a5...audioengine also provide subwoofer to the a5....beware subwoofer in this speaker class quite expensive...about RM1300...

digital audio studio address at comment above..at there u can test the a5

Tried it at Tong Lee today, and I agree with you. It really2 need a subwoofer(well, at least for me). How does the RM1.3k subwoofer sound like?
*
from what i reading....from whathifi(very famous hi-fi tester) subwoofer from audioengine not really do well and lack of bass definition....but still decent with the price....just got better option...and for the better option u need to refer to really knowledge person to choose a really well subwoofer to suite with audioengine 5....

the subwoofer at this price really powerful(to make sure it can compete with audioengine 5 capability)....if u live in rumah taman....and play loudly at night....i can guarantee police will come to ur house thumbup.gif

one more thing....although bass of AE5 weak....but from what i heard.....the bass sounded very accurate.....they can produce very good timbre of each instruments...that mean u can differentiate how each genre of music will sound with greatly...for example....when u listen to nasyid sound....u will aware how peaceful sound they produce.....when u listen to metal sound...u also will aware how aggresive/evil sounded the metal song...this is called ambience...timbre or watever....audiophile really know how to differentiate between high, normal, low quality music sounded....that y they very praise audioengine speakers to the world....because of the quality sound that they can produce...not because they want promote audioengine product like what jerk ppl says.....

yea aktimate surely more good than audioengine...but the problem is where to find such product in malaysia...?? and 1 more the price will be tad overprice here...if i can find the decent price one...sure i will choose aktimate over audioengine.....
1 more problem...if i go with aktimate micro that price about RM1400-RM1500....better i go with focal xs book that claimed as high-end bookshelf for dekstop...

The focal XS book might be more expensive than that locally here given the price it already is overseas.

The XSbook looks kinda like the Creative T40 speakers which are very decent in their own right but nowhere near as good as a proper powered bookshelf speaker.

Focal however are a much more reputable audio brand that seems to be doing well as of late. Their Spirit One headphone is also getting alot of good rep.
*
i think XSbook is more to hi-fi speaker than creative t40....creative brand only prominent in dekstop speaker world....absolutely not same level as focal which is more to proper hi-fi...

yes...u true about XSbook is not near as a proper powered bookshelf speaker...but for quality & sound, i think it can achieve that level....because the price with perfomance ratio is acceptable by many audiophile...

in addition, proper powered bookshelf speaker give 1 big problem for me....my house is really small....also many neighbor beside....if use something powerful and big like that.....they will be some noise bothering them...especially the bass will shake the wall...if not great...

that y i want something that small...not powerful....but efficient and clear enough to replace my current speaker now....ae2....ae2 is good actually....if use with decent sound card....i use asus xonar dx....claimed as high-fidelity sound card(SNR 116db)....produce clear & beautiful sound...but the problem is....the woofer push too hard and distort a bit....it produce brr brrr brrrr krrr krrr noise.....haih...really anoyying... shakehead.gif

i got see about aktimate micro specification in their website....the amplifier is class D?? i think it is normal amplifier that use in dekstop speaker....how can they put lower class amplifier class in aktimate micro and sell it so pricey?? i think for the price they should provide class A or AB ampilfier....hmm....something that really make me curious....is the amplifier can affect the quality sound?? or not?

they also provide pcm2074....so the micro is built in dac powered speaker? and now my sound card will be useless??? correct if im wrong....

I wonder how much is P4

I wonder how well will it pair with my NAD302 amp hmm.gif
*
i think audioengine p4 is very good if pair with warm amplifier....because it more to bright sounding...NAD always make warm/bass heavy amplifier ....

audioengine always more focuse on smooth, soft and mid bass manner....and less about detail and clarity...however still punch a lot detail compare to mediocre speaker...so make sure it suit with ur taste...

Aktimate might be putting a DAC into the Mini as well.

If they can fit a USB DAC into the much smaller micro, they definitely can put one into the Mini and therefore there are plans for that, AFAIK, talking to the Australian distributors. Shouldn't be long now, I was told about this a few months ago.

But again the DAC won't be the best DAC you'll ever find, just functional and decent, like the ones in the Maxi and Micro.

For desktop purposes I feel the micro is insanely good.

I prefer them compared to the AE5s or the AE2s. The AE5s are more powerful but the micros have control, and a touch more power than the AE2s.

But it all really depends on personal preference, space and setup.

are the aktimate micro and mini is forward type sounding? i mean the vocal and instrument playing from them is forward type? audioengine making voice sound sweet...but it was laid back...they tend to presence bass before the mid and high..so not so gud if play slowly....not so gud partner with my sound card that making sound more laid back..although the sound card open up the sound..
if the aktimate micro/mini is forward type sounding(opposite signature sound with audioengine)...so its great combination...
im like to play music at average sound(due listem them in bedroom only)...but hoping new set speaker can give clear detail even play with slowly...so if the aktimate is bass presence type..it may not suit me...cuz neeed to push loud to hear clarity...
hope u can help me...i just can depend on someone preferene to buy speaker..cuz far from capital city...here no place to audition...
