i bought some china made ceramic white plates. not purely white and some uneven surface. but it cost me just RM5 each
I also bought some good qualities wan from Parkson. (but discounted) those range from RM30 for a 12" plate to RM90 for a extra large 20" plate. I bought it with 70% discount.
Note to consider when buying white plates, they might stain easily. I rested my plate on a steel (which i didnt know it will rust) and ended up with extra "design" on my plate. other than that, sauces and stains also might harm your plates.
as for cutlery, its best to get some good set. you dont need more than your usual personal usage.
for parties, just get those plastic cutlery and paper plates. that's how i mange my plates and cutlery. no point keeping so much set. small house only tongue.gif

Now, I moved to a new house, my parents also bought me another set of tableware during the house-warming ceremony. Besides the tableware, they also bought two plants, a pack of rice and a bottle of oil. They said it's Chinese custom to wish one for adequate wealth and health.
Err... is it a must? To be honest, I know nothing about all these chinese custom. Actually my mum did ask me to take the "old set" with blue prints but I was thinking of keeping the contemporary idea.

Are we talking about tableware or cookware? My cookware is a combination of WMF, Silit, Corning (Professional Series). WMF cookware are beautiful to look at but it is not as suitable for Asian cooking. For example, the wok is solid and beautiful but I dont use it to stir fry much.
As for tableware, I have some normal stuff that sourced from shop like Living Quarter, Isetan, etc. For the formal dining, I have 2 sets of fine china from Mikasa. My Misaka was bought in US and brought back when I am back to Malaysia years ago. My silverware is JA Henckels but my chopsticks and soup and rice bowls were special set bought in Taiwan.
Agree with others that SG on sales is cheaper especially for WMF. US if you buy at outlet malls then it is signifcantly cheaper. However, there are some good deals locally. For example, you can get some Silit cookware at 50% off in KL. Silit is one of my favorite cookware brands.

How do you bring the items back from overseas? Do you get taxed? I heard Thailand sells very cheap and reliable stuffs too. Is it true?
