KUALA LUMPUR: A student from Guinea, West Africa, was found dead in his hostel room at Universiti Islam Antarabangsa Malaysia in Gombak here on Monday.

A room-mate found the maggot-infested body of Mamadou Aliou Tela Diallo, 25, on the floor of the room when he returned from a field assignment about 12.20pm.

Gombak police chief Assistant Commissioner Abdul Rahim Abdullah said there were traces of blood around the body but no indication of a struggle.

He said initial investigations revealed that Mamadou could have died about a week ago.

He said the victim's friend, who wished to be identified only as Sharif, said Mamadou had epilepsy and often sought treatment at the university's clinic and hospital.

The body was sent to the Selayang Hospital. - Bernama
