Hi there.
Used to play suikoden series on my ex-bf's machine a lot few years ago and now am thinking to start playing again. i need help from the pros here:
i'm torn in between either buying a PS2 or a PS3. yes the main reason i'm thinking to buy a PS2 is that i wanna play suikoden 3 & 5 again. i don't see konami having plan releasing new suikodens so i'm not sure if i should get a PS3. i quite enjoyed front mission 4 too but didn't get to finish the game before all hell broke loose between me and the ex (shouldn't have return the ps2 to him ain't it!?).
so, my question is: does ps3 have games similar to suikoden series and front mission if i were to get one? which would you recommend me? thank you in advance guys!

UPDATE: I'VE DECIDED TO BUY A PS2. PS3 CAN WAIT smile.gif AND GUYS, THANKS FOR THE INPUT!

if u don't mind playing offline and just great with those games then by all means no need to go to the next gen smile.gif

IMHO current gen rpg nowadays not so much 'epic factor' compared to the old ones except for their amped up graphics smile.gif

TS, have you considered the PSP? There are lots of great RPG titles on it. smile.gif

Like for example;
Final Fantasy IV: Complete Collection
God Eater Burst
Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky
Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together
Valkyria Chronicles II
Ys I & II Chronicles
Persona PSP
.. and also the upcoming Persona 2 PSP

Give it a thought nod.gif

TS if ur pc is good enough just get emulator for ps2 it work great with most of the game just some is not emulate well enough and save that money for PSP lots of RPG games inside. IMO PS3 or Xbox360 games that is good is only Tales series and Eternal Sonata others just so so only.

As a conventional JRPG lover this gen has nothing much to offer besides those 2, the rests are just decent at best.

infact that is the 2 jrpg that I finished off others halfway and bored of it...... like resonance of fate quite fun playing and shooting but still bored of it because shooting the same enemy with the same style and same tactic

Oh yea and please don't forget about NDS there are lots of good RPG games in there way too good like you have in ps2 biggrin.gif

oh yeah... if u get a ps2 and play with ur big-ass tv.. two likely consequences will happen (im assuming ur big-ass TV is a LED/LCD or plasma)
i. u'll throw away ur big-ass tv or
ii. u'll throw away ur newly purchased ps2...

to me, playing ps2 with a LED/LCD or plasma.. the experience is going to be nightmare.. the graphic 5u5ks big tim3

n if u hav a good pc.. u can always connect ur pc to ur big ass tv

anyway... for me, if u wanna play good old games, pc is a better option since pc emulator has better shader which make the games look a bit more better compared to their console release

oh yeah... to me personally n for my gaming experience, nowadays not many good games.. i still prefer to play older games.. what are the developers thinking

Old games on plasma isn't all that bad, it's still acceptable. LCD/LED on the other hand.. shakehead.gif

nope the big-ass is my dad's old stupid CRT box if i were to get a ps2, if i did end up with a ps3 i probably won't have as much game time as i wanted to since i have to use the family room tv. i don't have a good pc too so i guess that option's out.

Hmm.. definitely a hard decision to make...
get an outdated ps2 with many good old games or
get a better ps3 system with not so many good games...

for me i'll suggest u to get the ps3, long term better, n start playing with the older ps3 games like Star Ocean: The Last Hope International, encharted arms, eternal sonata, Trinity: Souls of Zill O'll

for jrpg i think the ps2 still the better choice for its vast games library. buy a component cable to play on a lcd/led tv for a clearer picture. the standard rca cable will make the picture look really wash out. recently dusted off my ps2 and now playing yakuza 1 game tongue.gif

i'm more of a storyline person so i guess i'd rather play a good game on ps2 than playing a mediocre game on a great machine. but thanks for the suggestion! appreciate it.

Most of the good rpg games is in PS2.I juz got my PS3 recently and i juz dont see much good rpgs.Played Star Ocean The Last Hope and Final Fantasy XII.Not bad but still lacking those elements found in PS2 rpgs. But well, the graphic is immense biggrin.gif

So in the end i have to use my pc and emulator to play back those epic rpg games for PS2.Sadly,emulator is not all perfect sad.gif

My greatest hope and dream would be they continue Breath of Fire series,Tales series (please in English) and Suikoden series.
