Yo, Nokia's super budget phone is finally here. Introducing the Nokia 500.



The news was official from Nokia Conventions

Quick Specs

- Symbian Anna with split screen keyboard
- 1GHz
- 3.2" Screen screen with resolution of 640 x 360 pixels
- 3G Data up to HUSPA speed
- 111.3 x 53.8 x 14.1mm and weighs in at 93g – the lightest S^3 phone to date.
- 450+ standby hours or 5-7 talk time hours.
- The back has 5MP.
- 150EUR before taxes (expecting the phone will be below RM630 in Malaysia)
Available in Black and white fronts. It seems you have additional coloured back covers, green Blue as well as purple, pink, red, orange and dark silver. There’s also a hot pink. Not sure how that is different over pink.

minus the 12MP camera and alu body N8 has, this is the king of Symbian^3 as for naw.

Slowpoke Nokia. Flagship phone have ancient proc while budget phone has a better one.

Nokia can do it. Just grab back the marketshare from Samsung etc for low end phone. Nokia no need worry about about the small percentage of higher end user. Just do a big release of budget S^3 phones to counter dummy OS from HTC and Samsung. Symbian should still excel over them.

The phone is price 150 Euro before tax, expecting the phone price below than RM630. 1ghz but no gpu. still in Anna though

what is the problem if the 500 dont have GPU, i dont play games, i only require fast and smooth internet browsing experience, like iphone...

No gpu, u cant play 720p video n intensive graphical games. But thats what u expect for budget phones. and if u wan speedy browsing, wait for belle update

I don't think there is a problem with it. It's targeted at different market, unlike higher end where consumer expect all the up to date goodies. Just like many of the lower end Android phones, most if not all are incapable of HD playback, sporting 800MHz or lower ARM11. What matter is the basic functionality of smartphone without fancy multimedia capabilities. I think it will sell because I personally seen many clients who have been using Nokia for years and although they fancy some of the stuffs like GPS, YouTube playback etc, they were not really keen into buying phone over 1k. Besides, the usual Nokia familiarity would help to encourage buyers in this category.

You get what you pay for. And at this price, it it truly sells at this price point, the customer gonna get a lot for what they pay.

Still, IMHO, better go for C6-01 : lol:

One thing, if this phone were running a 1ghz Arm11 processor, I wonder if the same processor in N8 family can be overclocked as well. Just a thought....

Nokia C6-01 properly get refresh by Nokia 600. Nokia 700 and Nokia 701 is also rumoured.

This Nokia 500 is good for those looking to replace Nokia 5800XM.

I believe this is equiped full focus camera. Hope is below 600myr.

The phone looks pretty promising but is it a capacitive or resistive touchscreen? If Nokia's utilizing a resistive touchscreen, I doubt it's gonna be that successful. Most modern handsets are now capacitive. Heck, I think smartphone sales were driven by touchscreen based capacitive devices. Just my 2 cents!

no gpu just unable u to play intensive 3D games. Whilst Angry Birds is 2D game, so angry birds is playable.

Nokia 500 is practically new that's why it wasn't on the list for now. But I'm sure later on, it will have.

If it is fixed focus, it is useless being a budget phone. Sorry if offense any nokia 500 fans.

The 3G, WiFi and GPS reception for Nokia phones are simply marvelous.
I've used Ericsson, Nokia and Samsung phones....
I think Nokia has one of the best hardware quality.

Remember the days of 3210/3310....these phone last forever and never dies....
I can't say the same for Samsung phones....

It's a shame Nokia is still using Symbian....
I can see many improvements in the recent version, but I don't think it's doing anywhere.
If you combined Nokia quality H/W and the popularity of Android OS....you get the best of both worlds !
