Personally i think 5.1 speakers add sound dynamics. But on the dark side, even the most expensive speakers will cause wire clutter.
Went to kliav show yesterday. On the speaker side i think its quite subjective. Aesthetically wall mount or built in ceiling speakers can hide the wires.
Speakers come in many sizes and shapes. But i do like the fact that wireless nodes for speakers are getting more cheaper.

Yeah i know what u mean. But in reality its not easy to find the cabinets in market ngam2 because speakers are not in uniform shape as the tv. Summore its actually a 7 unit of objects with different shapes that u ned to fit in.
I know cos i have 2 sets of system that is totally different size. One is in use and the other is in the store because i decided to use the smaler form factor looks nicer.
But yes, i think the best bet to hide all those wires is to bury them inside the wall, or ceiling
