Working out how much I can afford for a new speaker set, thinking of proper HTS but can only get stereo, if I can afford one in the first place

That's the main reason I'm planning to get a proper HTS instead of another HTiB. HTS can be upgraded slowly, component by component but HTiB if kaput then everthing is gone, the very reason for change now

LOL. I will agree with u on that last bit.

If you're talking HTS as AVR, current Dolby True HD/ DTS HD MA capable ones are less than RM1,500. Speakers you can start with stereo first, that's around RM500-700 for good bookshelf ones. Cables you can nego with the AVR. RM2,00-2,200 ain't that bad.

Sadly my choices here are very limited, those Denon/Onkyo stuff I can't remember seeing them here, only have Pioneer and may be Yamaha as well. But thanks for your encouragement, I'm certainly leaning towards a HTS now

Weird. Most HT stores would be pushing affordable ones instead of Yamahas/Pioneers. How about phone ordering from Harvey Norman and get it shipped? My Onkyo of more than 5 years still works and DTHD/DTSHDMA capable too.

There aren't many HT stores here to begin with, mostly private sellers who have their own circle of customers and sell expensive to outsiders. Going to take a look at Harvey Norman now see if they ship to KK. Thanks for your advice

I suggest looking up Onkyo's current 2011 lineup and call HN branches and see if they have it in stock. Then talk about shipping options. The HN website is bare.
