just updated my phone to the official GB... here's what i notice:
- User interface is much cleaner and nicer.

- internal memory space has been VERY well managed (compared when i first got froyo with this phone.) froyo i only have 30MB for space for my apps but now i have a whopping 160MB.

- SOD. I can't make a comparison for SOD because previously i didn't encounter any. sorry.

- keyboard is different as well. so far it's only aesthetic.

- in terms of phone speed, i realized it's much smoother but when i open my picture gallery, it takes much longer to load.

- there's a new icon 'Download'. i think it's to track your download activities.

- battery management is still under examination. seems ok so far. will keep updated.

cheerios...

from 30mb shoot to 160mb? with the same amount of apps installed?

for the phone speed, is games smoother as well?

When i first got my phone, i only had 30mb left for any additional apps. 120mb was used for existing apps in the phone. Now after changing to gb, the existing apps installed only takes up 26mb. Ace max storage only until 162mb... I could be wrong.

As for games, i have no tried hvga games yet.

Lol.. Easy? SuperOneclick is one click.. Gingerbread is, "off phone, volume up + power, recovery, update from zip"..
But i really recommend using CF-Root.. Smoother but rooting process is too much of a hassle..

to me, easy as in i dun need to connect to pc, dun need to dl so many stuff.
btw, i have rooted my phone d. no more virgin.

Check to see whether it is still in /system/app and look for Maps.apk. File size 6.4MB. If it is there you can re-install from there.
Whether rooted or not can still work. Gingerbread also can work.

it's no longer in there. how ar...now in android market, it written there "installed" but there's none in my phone. it also written there my phone is not compatible.

anyone with virgin ace (have not rooted before) with official Gingerbread can detect google maps in Android Market?

Or people with Ace Froyo can still detect Google maps in Market

i asked all these because i'm wondering is it because we updated to GB that's why we cannot use many google app from Android Market.

can help?

I uninstalled google maps when using froyo to free up internal memory. When I recovered almost 90MB from the log files I managed to installed it from android market then without any compatibility issue. Subsequently I uninstalled it again under froyo. However was surprise to see in again in gingerbread although in the android market it says installed but not compatible to SGA.

It is usable under gingerbread. Below screen shots from the apps.

Under gingerbread I'm unable to reset GPS settings under LBSTESTMODE and the *#*#3214789650#*#* code doesn't work anymore.  Tried AngryGPS also nothing happen.

So meaning, what Google replied to me is true. Google Maps (some of the other Google apps as well) is no longer available for Msia. Hmm....i miss chrome to phone app. Even Youtube is no longer available for Msia. i know i can just download somewhere else for it but just the thought of not able to use it 'officially' kinda sad.

thanks everyone for helping.

Google Maps and Youtube is still available in ur phone. Just make sure you don't uninstall or wipe out the data from your internal phone memory.
Because Google Maps and Youtube (plus a few apps from Google) from Market is no longer compatible with Malaysia. If you check out Google Maps in Android Market, it written there no longer compatible. or it's written INSTALLED. But we can always download from other website.

I wrote a mail to Google and here's the reply.

Hi,

Please note that developers of Android applications can choose to target
their apps to users in specific locations. In this case, it looks like
Google Maps has recently had the location availability retargeted.

Please let me know if you have additional questions; I would be happy to
help.

Best Regards,

Chelsea
