Been using the Galaxy S II for a week and here are some of my negative findings which are nagging me:
- After using for some time after the last reboot (a day or so), pressing the home button will take a while before actually bringing you to front screen - It gets hot during charging and playing intensive games. Dont mind when its in my hands, but mind when i slip it into my pocket. But im using the Case Mate tough case, so im sure that doesnt help cooling - Colour banding issue is very apparent to me. Quite irritating - Colour is very vibrant. Too much contrast for my liking, but this is personal preference - Battery life is quite bad, but this is because i was spoiled by old tech phones which doesnt use much power. Frankly speaking, most high end phones have short battery life. Its the cost of great power and large screen - Screen has some uneven lighting, especially two darkish vertical lines at the background. Only noticable when viewing full white screen Now for the pros: - Very fast! This thing flies. Rarely got lag. - Great viewing angles - Very thin and light. Too thin isnt good for me, but with the case mate tough, just perfect. And the light weight means it doesnt drag my pockets down - So far quite satisfied with speaker phone loudness, earphone sound quality Thats it for now |

QUOTE(nicregi @ Aug 6 2011, 12:53 AM) @daijoubu Unfortunately the lag happens not only when i wake the device up. Even when im in the applications menu, and i want to get out to the home menu, it'll lag for 2-3 seconds after i press the home button, before it gets into the home menu The slow homescreen button is because when the phone goes into sleep or deep sleep, it will take a little time for it to boot up. That was what I read though |

QUOTE(Noobi3 @ Aug 6 2011, 01:52 AM) Samsung uses the home button for a some other functions like home + power for screenshot , press twice the home button and u get voice control ..... If u expect it 2 return to your home in 1 sec pr least by pressing the home button , how fast do u think u will need to press the additional buttons to do the other functions ? 0.2sec , 0.5sec maybe ? How many consumers out there will be able to do so ? Do u think this will b practical ? Not only SGSII lags , most Samsung phones' home button is " laggy " now due to this That isnt a valid explanation due to the fact that the duration of the lag increases with time.Oh ya , some custom roms removed the double tap home function as voice is removed and it seems they calibrated the delay time so there is no lag if u press home From a fresh reboot, the lag is minimal. I assume that if the voice function requires a lag time, it should be as long as a freshly rebooted's lag. But when i use the phone, after 1 day of usage, the lag increases from say, 0.5s to about 2-3s. So definately it has nothing to do with the voice function. It must be something else. |

QUOTE(Eiraku @ Aug 6 2011, 05:57 AM) You sir, have got a rogue app terrorizing your CPU cycles/RAM, sounds like. Yup i highly suspect this is the case too. Trying to find which widget is doing this. But anyhow, im still fine at the moment with the reboots cause its not long. Anyway it wont be long before i start rooting and changing custom roms I am used to the whole concept of rebooting to clear lag, as my old N900 even needs a script to religiously reboot it every day at 5am just so it won't lag. But on the SGS2, I can safely say I never really needed to do that, as I've always had to reboot only when I flash/mod stuff (or when I need to change the battery, which happens quite often). Stuff remains generally quick and non-laggy. And I'm even CONSTANTLY UNDERCLOCKED to 800mhz max. |

QUOTE(benny888 @ Aug 7 2011, 11:01 PM) For a less than rm200 external charger, what type of performance are you looking at ? What I can say it does its job very well- no complains. You buy a original 1650mah battery is going to cost you RM 120-130. You buy a cheap generic , costs only RM 30 Sorry bro i never made myself clear. I actually wanted to compare the performance of a li-ion 4000 mah external battery to my 2x 2000mah nimh battery in terms of:You are not spending RM1000 on it - why so concerned ? It definitely will give you at least double the battery power - so is it worth it? You want a better quality and feeling of security and brand, buy energizer - costs you about RM80-90 more and lower at 4000 while the Yoobao is at 4800 1) Battery capacity (how many times can it charge from xx% to xx%) 2) Charging time (how long to charge from xx% to xx%) If the even cheaper li-ion ones out there charges better than my external battery by a huge margin, i might consider dumping it and get a li-ion one Just for info, my current eneloop 2x AA 2000mah (total 4000mah) battery performance as below: Able to charge from 30% to 60% in 100 minutes before battery flat. Charging condition is with data packet services/3G on (i realise with it on, the drain on the battery is much higher). |
