Hi Guys
I am from east Malaysia. Currently, I am only using Maybankard 2 platinum (Master/Amex) and I found out that beside Amex done a good deal on petrol, Watson, guardian and hotels, It is very hard for me to fully utilize the card's benefits(in term of cash back and points) at my area here. I ever think of to get OCBC titanium as it was highly recommended throughout the forum but then after gone through the merchants lists, 85-90% of the merchant are not applicable at my area as well. I would like to have some recommendation on the 2nd CC that I am going to apply. All your comments are greatly appreciated. Below are some of my information 1. Annual Income: RM60K 2. Free Lifetime Annual Fee: A Must. (Free/waiver for GST if possible) 3. Card required for: Basically everything (e.g: insurance, petrol, groceries etc) 4. Existing credit cards if any: RHB Classic (plan to cancel soon), Maybankard 2 platinum(master/AMEX) 5. Preferred Bank or Considering CC from banks: any 6. Others: Getting a replacement for my RHB Classic either it will be come my primary CC or secondary depends on the card's benefits. I am doing full payment on statement balance monthly 7. Estimated Spending per month with the card: RM1K-RM2k This post has been edited by virgoguy: Aug 23 2011, 10:40 AM |

Noticed a couple of recent post did not follow the given guidelines / templates.
The contributors here spend a lot of efforts to contribute to this thread and not to mention spending a lot of brain power to put things together in order. At least appreciate them by spending time to follow the given template. QUOTE(xproc @ Aug 23 2011, 10:56 PM) hi there, The difference between credit card and debit card is that Credit Card is for those not having cash in their CASA account. please advise on my first credit card choice. 1. Annual Income: RM35 to RM40K. 2. Free Lifetime Annual Fee: Must. 3. Card required for: usage on daily item, dining, shopping, else spending (1 card for all) . 4. Existing credit cards if any: PBB dayd 2 day debit card 5. Preferred Bank or Considering CC from banks: please suggest. i know you will recommend ocbc titanium card but ocbc far from me 6. Others: Please be specific. Example: i want one CC that good for me to use. currently i using my pbb debit card. kindly enlight me why should i need a credit card[SIZE=7] 7. Estimated Spending per month with the card: RM1K +/-. Added on August 24, 2011, 1:58 ampicked uob one card ( classic) via online... is it ok? thanks anyway Actually PBB Debit Cards do give you cash back and you also enjoy discount at merchants like Credit Cards. However, having a credit card (especially higher end cards) do have some benefits like Travel Insurance when you purchase air tickets (not all credit cards oofer this), protection plan against theft and damage (once again not all credit cards offer this), free Golf Green fees, Access to Airport Lounge for free food and booze and etc. For your case, I guess the UOB One Card is okay for you since you'll get guaranteed 5% cash back for ALL Petrol station and 2% cash back at hypermarket. Another advantage of having credit card is if you spend a lot, in addition to earning reward points to redeem for stuff, your money money can be invested in some financial instrument instead of it sitting in CASA and earning negligible income. If you know how to time you use purchase, you can have up to 40 days interest free credit to utilize. Also look into OCBC Titanium MasterCard where you get 5% cash back for Dining, Petrol, utility( TNB, Telco, Astro) and Groceries. Click here to read my article Top 10 CC in Malaysia to see the difference in card benefits. One thing I can tell you is that calling your PBB Debit Card Customer Service, sometimes you'll be put on hold like forever but not the case for higher end credit cards where there are dedicated Tol Free lines. QUOTE(lohmaikai @ Sep 9 2011, 12:08 AM) 1. Annual Income: 33k MBB 2 Amex is great if the pubs and karaoke you go to accept them, get 5X TP very fast 2. Free Lifetime Annual Fee: A Must 3. Card required for: Mostly used at restaurants and occasionally pubs/karaoke 4. Existing credit cards if any: Mb2 card(master+amex) 5. Preferred Bank or Considering CC from banks: Citi or any other 6. Thanks For restaurant Visa/MC better chances of being accepted, if you need a card for Ptrol, then it is easy I'll recommend UOB One Card. But since that is not your requirement, I guess apply for a card that is most convenient for you to make payment. Click here to read my article The Best CC in Malaysia. Is There Really One? In this post I mentioned card that offer free annual fees with and without conditions. As for you wanting Citibank, get the Clear Card as it is more a lifestyle card where you get free movie tickets at all the 3 cinemas on Fridays (click here to read about it) and also some promo at Zouk. Click on this link and from this post go click on the link to Citibank Promotion and see if they interest you. As for low credit limit, you got to understand that BNM ruling is that for those earning less than RM36K, the banks are suppose to limit it to not more than 2X your monthly salary. So therefore even if you get another card, the credit limit will still be low. So you should also get a Debit Card for emergency and if you really really spend a lot, look at Alliance Debit card where you can get cash back. But I must warn you, Alliance Debit cards cannot be used for online. |
