Annual is per year right ?

if like that have RM100k+

yalah , annual is per year. Well, since you earn >RM100K, and if your salary is deposited into Maybank, then according to Maybank website, you should be able to get a credit card from them but you still need a letter rfom your employer. Check out MBB website for more info.

1. Annual Income: RM60K-RM80K

2. Free Lifetime Annual Fee: Nice but not essential

3. Card required for: Online purchases from overseas ie. iTunes, Amazon, Flickr Pro, etc

4. Existing credit cards if any: MBB2 Plat, OCBC Titanium, MBB Petronas Visa

5. Preferred Bank: No preference.

6. Others: I am looking for a basic card with a minimal CL (2-3k?) purely for online purchases as mentioned as I do not want to use existing cards with higher CL in case of unforeseen complications (ie. vendor gets hacked, CC details compromised).

7. Estimated Spending per month with the card: RM200-RM500 max.

Thank you for any assistance !

For you case since the card is more for convenience, get one that is easiest for you to make payment. And since you want two different banks, I suggest you get Maybankard 2 Cards where the AMEX gives you 5% cash back on weekends for any type of transactions. You only need to pay a single RM50 GST for AMEX and Visa (remember to stress in your application that you want Visa and not MasterCard).

Since you're not familiar with credit cards, I suggest you read my articles in my blog, click link below:

Get a Debit Card from Public Bank and maintain like RM500 max in account at any one time. Maximum damage RM500 if card is cloned.

Maybankard 2 Cards since you do spend more than RM1K per month the 5X TP would benefit you.

Thanks Gen-X. Will check out PBB debit.

Alternate method: I suppose I could also apply for a supp card (from any of my existing CC) and set a RM500 limit? Is this a "safe" solution in event of cloning?

True, we can always assign a credit limit to a supp card, but somecard enven let you go beyond your credit limit and then imposes some kind of charges. You can also get another Free For Life Principal Credit Card and request that the CL be RM2-RM3K.

Wow, thanks for the fast reply bro. Just a while ago i went to the Maybank branch and applied for the Maybankard 2 Cards as per suggested. But the bankers said to me that they doesnt produce any more visa type for this CC. So i just go on with the Mastercards. Btw, could you guys tell me the diffrent between visa and mastercard?. Is it the coverage?

Good point.

I think I shall go with my MBB cherry debit set on low(est) cash limit, just read about MSOS safety net elsewhere. Save on GST and other fees.

Thanks again Gen-X for your sifu feedback.

Cash back and 0% BalanceTransfer = MBB 2 Cards tongue.gif Did you know that you can actually transfer your MBB petronas BT to another MBB CC account BUT it is not 0% interest and the duration is 24 months and above. Click here to MBB site to read more about MBB BT plans for transfer within MBB cards.

Click here to read my article on Balance Transfer.

Currently, CIMB, MBB and PBB offering 0% BT. If you ask me, the best Balance Transfer program is from CIMB where a separate account is created for the BT. However, only CIMB Visa Infinite is a true cash back card.

As for Citi Clear Card, well it is not a cash back card and the ready credit is not really just for BT but you're applying for credit facility and if not mistaken the rate is 0.25%/month which equates to 3% p.a. but the effective interest rate is higher since the interest is calculated monthly. Seriously, you should not go with Citi Bank Credit Ready if you do not know how to control your spending because you may be tempted to withdraw cash with this facility from ATM and the rate is 1.5% per month or 18% p.a. and since interest is calculated on daily basis, the effective interest rate is more than 18%.
