biggrin.gif Any one from Penang knows where to buy the 'pat poh' concentrate here in KL? Eversince I was a kid, my favourite drink in a coffeeshop was 'pat poh ping'. It is a kind of blackish syrup, same way as you would mix a cordial. The nice tasting drink was then added with a new variety, they added lime and also evaporated milk when I went back to Penang in the mid 80s. I can get them in Langkawi but I can find it here in KL/PJ. Anybody here knows where to get them? I am really missing the drink cry.gif

" FROM a humble beginning as a herbal beverage at a canteen, the Pat Poh drink is today a patented product manufactured in a modern factory. The experimentations of Loy Boon Jar, a Hainanese immigrant, who was fond of Chinese herbs, led to the Pat Poh recipe during the pre-Independence days in Penang. Loy's son-in-law Chan Pheng Lai said prior to modernisation in the 1990s, the backyard business in Perak Road involved cooking eight herbs in a copper pot, using the kerosene burner." quote The Star.

This is another variation from Southern Hokkien food similar to the diff between Southern/Central hokkien mee (Black fried noodle) and Penang Hokkien mee (Prawn Noodle).

In the South, Pat po Peng is actually leng Chee kang haha
