You can get a free quotation from any insurance company. I got mine from Comm Bank, they gave me student price. Try google around for free quotation on insurance in Australia, just takes 10 mins to fill in the info and get a rough figure.
I bought a junk here in Australia to get me around, I only bought third party insurance
Sydney driver is like KL drivers(aggressive and rude) so if you are buying a Merc i suggest you get full coverage.
Another thing to consider is parking, in Sydney will cost you an arm and a leg if you park or travel anywhere near CBD. 20-30 dollars a day depending where you park.
Maintenance for car in Australia is pretty straight forward, the labor is expensive so prepare 150 dollars for a simple oil and filter change. Spare parts are abundant especially in NSW, just head to the auto wrecker for some chop chop parts, new parts would cost 1000% more.
Oh ya forgot to add, I think there is no point buying a merc with the exchange rate so high. 80k x 3.2 = 256k. It's about the same as buying a new C250 in M'sia. Factor in custom tax, shipping fee etc etc it might cost more than buying one in Malaysia.
