Hey guys, I've been using Maxis/Hotlink BIS Bonus 20 all this while, and it's a shock and heart breaking news to hear that the plan is no longer available by the end of July. So, many Maxis BB subscribers have been planning to change to other telcos while some are sticking with Maxis with opting the new BIS plan ( which are not worth the price ). So, let's share and compare the new Maxis BIS plans with other telcos and see which plan would benefit both customers and the telco itself in terms of price and the services provided.

I'll start off first with the Hotlink BIS Plans.

user posted image

Although it costs a minimum of RM 1/day, the services provided for each plan is not reasonable. With BIS Lite, it only provides push mail and BBM plus other IM services. While for BIS Social, it only gives you BBM, social networking services, and IM's. Both of these are totally not worth the price. For people who are usually on the go, and BB would be their device to connect with everything, these plans seems to fail for them. Not to forget, these plans do not provide the internet service for BB browser. So that makes the scenario worse. I also heard that BB App World is not accessible, plus other social networking apps such as Foursquare is also not useable.

How could they come up with this packages which are totally worse than the BIS Bonus? Well, for loyal Hotlink customers, these readily available plans might be another option for BIS services.

It is the BIS Prepaid Packages, comes up with ranges of prices from RM 2.50/day, RM 28/week, and RM 98/month. It provides all the essential BB services.

user posted image

But one thing that I'm not sure is whether this plan has unlimited usage or not, I didn't made a research on that. Maybe Hotlink are trying to scoop up a bit more money ( a lot actually ) from customers as they know that most of the existing Hotlink subscribers are relying on their quite efficient coverage and good BIS services response ( fb feeds, less lag, minimal connection problem etc. ). But if they continue to rise the price and provide shitty plans, we subscribers would not hesitate on jumping to other telcos.

I didn't make any research on other telco BIS plans, including Maxis postpaid plans, but if any of you who bumped on this thread and uses other BIS plans than mine, come share what's your telco BIS plans provide. Good day everyone smile.gif

Thats why. The new BIS plans from Hotlink just doesnt fit the bill, we do not benefit in either way, while they made loads of income from this new plan. I'm quite mad about their plan on introducing these new plans while at the same time terminating the BIS Bonus 20. But I'm quite reluctant to jump to other telcos since the service provided by Maxis is quite good. Haihhh

BTW, wow this plan from Celcom is quite attractive? Yeah is there anyone subscribing this? Do share your experience. And I also heard that Celcom's BIS has some kind of daily limit where the users cannot use BIS during midnights. Is it true?

That plan is gonna be terminated by the end of this month bro, so enjoy your last time using BIS Bonus 20 to the max! Others, sadly no. The closest I guest is the plan from Celcom maybe.

Digi postpaid full would be better, unless you can live up to the 300mb plan. But then again if you don't tether 300 is way more than enough really.

In terms of monthly bill, I would say Celcom has a lower monthly bill compared to Maxis. But in terms of network efficiency and coverage, Maxis did a very good job on providing that, compared to Celcom. I have friends who uses the Celcom RM25/month plan, they said yes the bill is among the cheapest, but the connection sometimes sucks big time. During nights, usually they can't even use the network. Only after 12am, the line will be stable again. And sometimes, when you want to upload something on FB or tweet, even a small sized pictures sometimes take more than 2 or 3 retries. It's a problem by Celcom which I think they never put a serious hand in fixing it.

Maxis. Celcom pushes all their BlackBerry blame to Vodafone, which i'll say is pretty irresponsible of them.

I just noticed that the Hotlink BIS Bonus Weekly, which is RM 7/week is still available. So that might be another good option for using BIS for a reasonable price. Plus, it includes all services, including Foursquare. I'm not sure about Whatsapp though, never used it before.

If these prepaid plans comes with a few mb of wap usage then it would be able to prevent being accidentally have your credit deducted. If we pay 25/month but always get credit deducted every day, what's the point?

Sometimes I have deleted wap service books but still get deducted out of no reason.

yup he is right a few days ago the BIS Bonus 20 wasn't there. they only restore this service like a days ago.

and yes the new BIS social plan does not include whatsapp ( you can only use it when there is wifi ).

2nd it does not include foursquare. you may have acess to foursquare and still be able to use it but in return you will get reduction in your phone credit.

3rd you are not able to go direct browing through the blackberry brower

4th you will not have acess to blackberry app world to dl the apps or whatsoever.

I heard that Hotlink's plan to terminate the BIS Bonus 20 has been cancelled, for this while maybe. Lots of Hotlink subscribers were complaining and many threatened them to jump to other telcos. So, they decided to continue that plan. And yeah, it will be auto renewed every month, as long as your credit balance is sufficient and Hotlink hasn't yet terminated the plan. For now, customers won over the telco! biggrin.gif

hi guys... been thinking on using blackberry... a bit confused with BIS actually...

so, i've done a bit of research, here and there, especially the rates...so first thing first, is BIS is some sort of Data plan that is associated with blackberry? or do i need to subscribe to any other data plan if subscribe to BIS?

because there are many different packages to subscribe to BIS... some only allow BBM, some allow BBM + social networks.. and there is also full feature BIS, which allow BBM, social networks, web browsing and "more".. what i want to know is, what is "more".. can i download, say mp3 through BIS without extra charges?

QUOTE(eugoreez @ Aug 3 2011, 04:37 PM)
hi guys... been thinking on using blackberry... a bit confused with BIS actually...

so, i've done a bit of research, here and there, especially the rates...so first thing first, is BIS is some sort of Data plan that is associated with blackberry? or do i need to subscribe to any other data plan if subscribe to BIS?

because there are many different packages to subscribe to BIS... some only allow BBM, some allow BBM + social networks.. and there is also full feature BIS, which allow BBM, social networks, web browsing and "more".. what i want to know is, what is "more".. can i download, say mp3 through BIS without extra charges?
another thing is, if i web browse through BIS, what speed am i on? 3g, hspa, 2g?

just to add, i would like to go for the prepaid one instead of postpaid..

thx in advance, n sorry about the a bit long question..

Yes, its a data plan for BB. And nope you don't need to subsribe to any other plans once you have your BIS activated, once you have BIS subscribed on your BB, then your BB is considered 'breathing and alive'.

'More' maybe in terms of usage of other extra BB apps which uses the data services, there are plenty of them, which most are related to office use and also leisure. For downloading, it depends on what you're downloading and how big is the size of the thing you're about to download. Of course it uses your data services, and once you exceed your monthly data limit, your upcoming data services used is going to be charged or your connection speed will be reduced, depending on what telco you're subscribing your BIS with. And since you said you would go for prepaid instead of postpaid, I suggest you to always keep track of the BIS plans which are available around, because the telcos usually would change and modify, and sometimes terminate and introduce a new BIS plan, for the sake of being the best BIS service provider in the country, which sometimes become a problem to subscribers. doh.gif

And for speed, it depends on three things, what speed can your BB carry on, what speed does the BIS plan carry on, and how good the connection reception in the area you're using your BB. Earlier BB's only have 2G speed connection, while the later and most present BB are running on both 2G & 3G connection. For the speed of the BIS plan, make sure you choose the 3G BIS plan if you wish to go for a better speed, or you can choose the other option if you opt to maintain your battery lifetime, with a slower speed. And last but not least, the reception you get in your area. If you're in a hotspot area e.g Klang Valley, the connection is usually 3G.

No problem man, and sorry in turn too if I wrote too much sweat.gif

Umobile updated their postpaid and prepaid plans, now only RM25/month to enjoy UNLIMITED bis + UNLIMITED STREAMING!

Cheapest so far with streaming. But Umobile 3G coverage is not that good, if you're living in KL then it's pretty good.

I just got back from the UK...

looking through the forums and combing google for Malaysian blackberry plans.. i feel really cheated..

in UK.. o2 15GBP gives you full unlimited access BIS limited to 500mb (personally even i cant reach that cap limit)

i see all this plans from digi, maxis bla bla and they seem to be a ripoff..
what the hell does it mean full BIS but does not allow foursquare for eg.

if it does not allow certain usage.. it is not FULL..

but having said that..
i need something to last me for a while until iphone 5/4gs (depending on what you believe) comes out (sometime hopefully by december)

meanwhile i really need push email and web browsing and full capabilities

any suggestion?

I heard about the RM38 DiGi plan... is anybody using it?

DiGi - always the smarter choice.

As per soulfly ( one of the lowyat forumers), set ur phone to the following settings:

Advanced Options - Browser:
- Default browser configuration: internet browser
- Default MDS browser configuration: Internet browser
- Default WAP browser configuration: DIGI WAP

Advanced Options - Browser Push:
- Enable push: tick
- Enable MDS push: untick (not sure what it does so i just untick)
- Enable WAP push: tick (this is for MMS)
- Allow WAP Push applications: untick (this i believe will force apps to run with WAP)

Advanced Options - GPS:
- GPS data source: Device GPS
- GPS services: Location ON
- Location data: enabled
- Location aiding: enabled

Advanced Options: TCP/IP
- APN Settings Enabled: tick
- APN: BlackBerry.net (notice the capital letters)
- APN Authentication Enabled: untick

And go to service book, delete all the item which consist of WAP, and hola, there goes ur unlimited BIS plan! whatsapp and 4square can be used all day long!

Now my phone credit will not be deducted for no reason anymore.

Nope, I'm not having that problem. Try doing battery pull dude, it might help.

Added on August 21, 2011, 7:08 pmDidn't opened this thread for a while actually. Sorry for the un-replied questions. I'm busy lately and could not do much research for the BIS plans for other telcos such as Digi, Celcon and etc. Hope others can help! biggrin.gif

maxis damn expensive
data plan + call plan

Minimum cost = rm40 (250mb) + rm30(call plan)
=rm 70 ++ (not include additional call if exceed)

So you're on Hotlink. So you should just start subscribing Hotlink BIS Bonus 20, RM 20 per month, 100mb data biggrin.gif

in my experience:

hotlink: fastest, good coverage

digi: acceptable speed (may vary though), coverage not so good (none at my area)

celcom: a bit slow, good coverage.

I wanna buy a blackberry phone and i'm using postpaid at the moment. I know for me if i use the postpaid plan for blackberry its kinda expensive for me together with the ADDITIONAL internet plan of minimum rm 55. So i opt to change to prepaid. But the only problem is that i want the hotlink youth club. Now its no longer available and the only stupid plan left is the new hotlink plan. 36 CENTS/ MIN compared to 12 CENTS / MIN ( youth ) . SIGH !

If you can afford the package from Celcom, then it's not a problem to get it from them. But in my opinion if you're planning to spend less in buying a BB, better for you to buy the smartphone itself without any contract and later get a plan for it. But I assume by now you've bought already your BB right?

I dont know what is the cheapest..

but one of the cheapest is Maxis [Hotlink Prepaid] , choose BIS Bonus , RM 20/month , Unlimited.. but 100MB per page.. means that, you only can open the page sized up to 100MB only... more than that.. you may get error...

BUT of course, others thing is unlimited.. except streaming video/audio... , speed is fast and stable and got wide coverage... can go up to 7.2Mbps download speed..

Hello,
I want to ask, for the UMobile Blackberry Prepaid...
According to the website it gives the additional data, meaning I can surf internet normally like other data plan for smartphones?

Thanks!

DiGi - always the smarter choice.

As per soulfly ( one of the lowyat forumers), set ur phone to the following settings:

Advanced Options - Browser:
- Default browser configuration: internet browser
- Default MDS browser configuration: Internet browser
- Default WAP browser configuration: DIGI WAP

Advanced Options - Browser Push:
- Enable push: tick
- Enable MDS push: untick (not sure what it does so i just untick)
- Enable WAP push: tick (this is for MMS)
- Allow WAP Push applications: untick (this i believe will force apps to run with WAP)

Advanced Options - GPS:
- GPS data source: Device GPS
- GPS services: Location ON
- Location data: enabled
- Location aiding: enabled

Advanced Options: TCP/IP
- APN Settings Enabled: tick
- APN: BlackBerry.net (notice the capital letters)
- APN Authentication Enabled: untick

And go to service book, delete all the item which consist of WAP, and hola, there goes ur unlimited BIS plan! whatsapp and 4square can be used all day long!

Now my phone credit will not be deducted for no reason anymore.

Hi guys,
Just want to share my experience using Hotlink BIS Bonus RM20/mnth

Advantage :
Good n speedy

Disadvantage:
Limited..
BB native apps such as GPS, Appsworld n BB Protect not inluded.
3rd party apps such as 4square, whatsapp, ubersosial for twitter, tweetcaster etc oso not included...
With this apps running, I'm always lost my credit as I don't know much about what included n what not...

I have refer about it thru Maxis twitter ac @MaxisListen n they explained all the above mentioned....
That why they say it Limited huhu....

Solution, I'm gonna switch Telco n maybe gonna use Celcom BIS RM25/mnth. UNLIMITED after my Hotlink BIS expired...

*some hotlink users can used above 3rd party apps w/o credit deduction n this I really don't know how or maybe they do have some extra setting

hi all,
Iam newbie here. just starting to use BB as my second phone.
Have not try any Bis plan yet , currently connecting with my wifi (hotspot from my phone),
but as I survey..Hotlink bis bonus most famous.. And planning to subscribe for my BB.
Few question I am confuse with, bis bonus not included for apps world?
And I have review some posts, bb browser can be used with bis bonus?
What is bb browser? Different with normal browser?

I'm sorry for too much questions.

BB browser yes included in Hotlink BIS Bonus rm20..
For 3rd party browser as Opera Mini etc u will be charged coz its not included.
For AppWorld, most of theme downloading will be charged eventhough free themes..
A lots more services r not included n that why they call it LIMITED.. This is from my experience using Hotlink BIS. Quality good n speed excellent n that the main reason I'm stick to Hotlink BIS till now eventhough they do TELAN my credit huhu.
If there have 20person can convince me about how good is Celcom BIS, maybe I switch to Celcom (unlimited ma)

i hve 2 numbers n just bought a recon set 9300.rite now i'm using hotlink first to see how it goes.i subscribed to BIS bonus 7/week.it said doesnt include whatsapp n charges 10sen/10 kb. to my surprise,it didnt charge me a sngle cent when i use WA and wechat.i even tried sending n receiving pic through WA but there's no charges.

how bout the xpax bis ? the 25/mth, does it include all such WA and wechat or will there be charges for WA data ?
