SHOOT magazine...gosh...read them for a long time.....

anyone remembered the annual tabs and ladder? where you get to arrange the position of every clubs according to table in all 4 division on a cardboard?

Back then, my Liverpool tab was always new, because hardly moved from top place..haha!

My favourite column was Ray Clemence's weekly column. Ian Rush also gave some nice interviews...

Match is more of gila/fun type while Shoot is more serious....

I think Shoot already closed shop?

Only one phrase for that MU fan....`CHOON CHOI!' (in cantonese)

Alquilani doesnt want to be here anymore.
thanks to hoghson .

to be fair to Roy, i dont see how he is to be blamed for this...
Aquilani has been playing and training regularly for the team in past few weeks..In other words, being injury free, he is given the perfect chance to show KD and SC what he can do...

been so much speculations, no one know what's true...
Agent trying to make more $?
Aqui wanting to maneuver a move back to continental?
KD dont like what he sees in training and is trying to market him at higher price (hence all the playing time for past few weeks?)?
KD already decided no Aqui in his team and hence the purchase of Henderson, Adams, etc? (its normal to buy first then try to sell...if you have the $)

no one knows...i dont remember the 2 most important people...Aqui himself and KD making an announcement in BBC or ESPN about wanting to leave or sell.......

so at present, mostly speculation...there is a chance he could be gone by tomorrow, there is also a change he will start against Sunderland and make a telling pass to Suarez to score...

but..back to my point...while we can try to `blame' Roy previously, i dont think its fair to blame him now...

okay. sorry if i am responsible for lengthening this Torres thing....and no offense to anyone...

i saw the article...i thought his answer was not in anyway belittling the club...During that time, under Roy, did anyone of us believe we will win the league? He made his choice then, that joining Chelsea will give him a medal. It didnt happened. but he made a choice after weighing his options. I was depressed because of it. I wished he stayed, and still become a legend although he might not win a lot of medals... than playing for THAT club. But he made his choice...

He was asked why he left, so he just gave an answer...He didnt say thing like `2 years from now, i will win more trophies than Liverpool, or 2 years from now, i will win more things than Gerrard'. Neither did he said `I believe Lampard can make me a better striker as compared to what Liverpool midfield can offer'. He was asked WHY he left. So he gave his answers.

Vreis, Yes, you're right. He could have focused on the good times in Liverpool and also on life at his new club instead of telling people why he left. but i think 90% of the press will probably never ask him `How much you miss Liverpool' or `how is training with JT like?'. The media loves sensation and their favourite question will always be `Why you chosed Chelsea and turned down Liverpool'. Hence, his answers.

Unless he decided not to talk to the press anymore. but that's another issue.

If the press keep on asking Alonso the same question (why did you leave Liverpool for RM?), I am sure it will sound the same- The Madrid project is more exciting, no one turns down Real Madrid, its my dream, etc etc..

you know what's the real joke?
http://www.clickliverpool.com/%E2%80%8Bspo...E2%80%8Bes.html

click on that headline...Its started by saying `Fernando Torres believes a bleak future lies ahead for Liverpool'...So this is implying that Torres believes that THIS season, with Suarez, KD, Carrol, Adams, Liverpool's future is bleak...

read on...

its not...the statement Liverpool's future is bleak, was actually how he felt during Roy's time. Didnt we all feel the same and that's why we asked for Roy to be shipped out?

Like i said, I am not trying to offend anyone here, and i dont mean to act like a Torres fan boy...but sometimes, the press is a laughing stock...

Well, looking forward to us winning trophies in seasons to come..and Torres winning none... rclxm9.gif

well, to be fair to him, many of these multi millionaire sports stars are perhaps not as well educated...or they dont care less about what they say...

in that sense, you're right..what in the world is the PR manager is doing? doh.gif

well, at least Torres didnt go around Twittering on why he left us eh?

I din know we cant talk about the past whistling.gif
oh if u care to see, the article is clearly stated 3rd Aug 2011, though the content is recycled.
First discussion on selling Gerrard for RM50mil though hypothecally is a sin, now talking about past is???
Well might as well move on & never mention Fowler, Shankly, Paisley again wink.gif

no disrespect, moderator (i know its a thankless job sometimes), but i am also wondering the same thing.

we were certainly not criticizing or belittling each other, just sharing opinions. I thought it was a respectful exchange of views, which ended without any negative vibes. Also, i thought the discussion also touched on some valid issues, like how the media can unashamedly twist a statement. Vreis also gave an interesting point about how an ex player can perhaps be wiser when asked question about his old club.

I can understand perhaps your concern, ie what if this thread is filled with Torres ....in every page....it will irritate people. and yes, sometimes it can be a sign of not moving on. However, there is a difference between not moving on (posts like `Torres shouldnt have left us', `if only he's here what a combination we will have with Suarez', `its all Roy's fault, if not he'll still be here today') and discussing Torres in the light of current events. just my humble 2 cents..

However, i am sure our thread wont be overfilled with Torres... Once the season starts, we'll filled these pages with Suarez, Carroll, Adam, KD......at least until we play Chelsea again... doh.gif

on strengthening our defence...

oh...if only the scouts can spot a cheap and easily available defender elsewhere...there MUST be a Hyypia hidden somewhere!!!

the pre-season and today's match should be teaching us not to put our hopes too high. CL qualification will be considered a great success.

Downing, Adams, Carroll, Henderson...these are perhaps top players of their previous clubs... but the jury is still out whether they are title-winning material.
And we did spent a lot on them...

Having said that, these are our players, and its important to give them more time.

I am only worried about Carroll and Liverpool. There is so much tendency to lump the ball at him..and then there will be cries of excitement, a foul, or a wide header...these things dont bring us far...

calm down mate. Passion and desire to win are good to have. But its only the first match and we did do well in first half. The way you belittle our players with foul words didnt helped either.

we have a BIG problem...and he is Andy Carroll....big transfer fees, big sized...but Wes Brown and now Arsenal's defence have so far kept him in their pockets..

everytime the ball is targeted to him, he is either fouled (but we didnt get anyting), he fouled others or the ball go aimlessly away...

not slagging him or calling him useless...but after 1 and half game....we're not seeing anything dangerous...

Andy Carroll is not a god who can win all the ball crossed to him =.="

Vermaelen is famous of his ability to jump high thou he is only 6"1..
So, its a 50-50 challenge between Carroll and Vermaelen..

But one point i had to agree is, when the ball arrived at Carroll's feet, the flow stops...
I think the introduction of L. Suarez is imminent..
But whose going out?

Nasri is dangerous..
But i cant think of a reason why Nasri still gets some space in the centre midfield area when we are playing Lucas, Adam and Henderson, three in the central park?!?!?
*
we're not asking him to win everything...but to be threatening....so far, we see none. Yes, Vermaelen is no slouch.

so, the worrying thing so far is Carroll is not a threat...the pressure will build up..and that's not good for the young lad...all of us wants him to do well...

hopefully KD will ask him to keep his cool, stay calm and the contributions will come...

i know its a bit unfair to compare since it was 11 vs 10..but the moment AC left, the players seemed to focused more on short passes, through balls and creating openings...

i am not saying THIS is the way to go but maybe this is the sign of our strength....we can opt for this or revert to using AC's brute force....

I dun think we pay so much just to get his work rate...... cool.gif

if you compare him to Cleverly, Wilshere, Ramsey...he looked a bit stoned and slow..

but then he's now ours...and we just need to give him more time....yes, he doesnt looked spectacular but maybe the management sees something in him and will know how to use him...

happy with the results.....

3 points, Suarez continuing his contribution from last season, no goal conceded and removing some of the pressure from our so-called expensively assembled team (british press...sigh)... and Enrique looks like a decent defender...

Performance? it wasnt spectacular..but with our current first 11 and squad..we cant be expecting Barca movement or Real's explosive style...

the passing and movement after AC's substitution looked better..although i think the fact that we're playing against 10 probably contributed to that...

better days should come when AC, Downing and even Adams gets some goals to avoid total reliance on our Uruguayan..

However, at this moment, better days shouldnt be translated as fighting for title....we have some decent British players at moment, but they are not the best names in the EPL....ad they need time to gel and understand each other...so i doubt we're title challengers..(i would love to be wrong on this one though.. laugh.gif )

If we keep churning out the points, then we have a good chance to conquer 4th and maybe even steal 3rd...
And add that with a decent cup run, this certainly looks like a good first full season under the new owners and management..

But still long way to go for the season...
