Interesting interview with Darren Burgess, head of fitness and conditioning for Liverpool FC. So many inside information. Now I know why they wear those sports bra during training. Also Suarez will not be back until 8 days before the first match.

+ve in the first half is Shelvey. I can definitely see the young Gerrard in him. Full of energy, chasing opponent, over enthusiastic tackle, good technique. The sign is there. Just keep playing him King Kenny...

The positive that I will take from the match is the fact we have good depth in midfield.
1st half we relied too much on long ball and crosses to Carroll. Its a decent tactic but didn't seem to work, moreover Carroll was closely marked by 3 or 4 players. We became predictable. What is also frustrating is that Adams and Henderson didn't exploit the open space enough given that Carroll pulled their defenders out of position few times. And I think Merieles will take full advantage of such given space. But because of our plenty options in midfield, we can bring in plan B with Aqua + Jonjo. And it proved that Aqua's corner produced a better result than Adam's corner. I wouldn't say that Aqua+Jonjo played better than Adams+Henderson. We played different tactic with both combo. And I think each will be effective and will be used to cater different teams in EPL. BTW, did we play 4-4-2 from the start? because I remember saw the formation with Kuyt n Carroll upfront. But in the game, it seems that Kuyt drifted more to the right. |

QUOTE(ayam001 @ Aug 4 2011, 12:37 AM) According to a swedish newspaper, Torres has said: ' Liverpool has no bright future'. Wow if there is no "Liverpool and premier league" wordings there I would have thought that he is a martial art actor promoting his new movie |

QUOTE(account_manager @ Aug 9 2011, 12:02 AM) hopefully Caroll will not repeat the same tackle against Adil Rami during this season matches.. it was horrible.. sigh.. and both Caroll & Downing should be injury free after the Holland match.. and they shouldn't play more than 45 min in this meaningless game... |

Clearly the squad is still work in progress. But we do have more mobility in Downing, Henderson and Suarez

My heart tells me that we should have battered team like Sunderland what more with our new look Liverpool comprising of quality signings.
But the reality is, there is nothing from our pre season performance that suggest that. For me, the team is still in the process of gelling and fine tuning. The good thing is it won't be long before we see the result. What we saw in the first half was a glimpse of potential of what the team could become. Having said that, I agree with those saying that Kelly should have played instead of Flanno. As far as I remember Flanno played more on the left last season. Maybe he was guilty for not marking Larsson closel enough. But seconds before that nobody seems to mark the player who crossed the ball. And the whole team to be blame for weak performance in 2nd half. Also I thought, KD could have sub Carroll with Ngog you know just to cause their defenders different kind of problem. That might do the trick. |

QUOTE(leftist @ Aug 18 2011, 02:35 PM) no one want to discuss bout our reserve defeat to sporting lisbon??..from what i read,we played a good game..the only thing that missing is scoring goals..again they said Raheem Sterling was fantasticos! We were down 0-2 in half time. Didn't get to watch much cause the stream was lagging. 2nd half we played better. I was disappointed with Shelvey performance tot he could have done better. Silva was also quite disappointing. After Ngoo n Adorjan came in we played much better. Ngoo was unlucky not to score. And if not mistaken Adorjan hit the post. Raheem was brilliant as usual constantly causing problems. 0-3 was harsh result. |

Just want to say Kenny tactic was spot on tonite.
During 1st half I admit I was thinking that we should have started with Suarez and try to get early goal and then hold on to it. People were saying that we were playing a depleted Arsenal team. But the fact is their starting eleven cosnsisted of all the regular players with exception of two; Frimpong and Jenkinson. But still we could have advantage of that. I'm dissapointed with our first half performance cause we did not play as a team. Not enough understanding between players, we hesitated on making forward passes, not enough off the ball movement. But in term of KD plan I think it worked out well. Carroll made their defense worked hard to contain him and as a result Koscielny limped out of the game. That sets the stage nicely for Suarez to enter and terrorize their inexpereince defend. And when Frimpong sent off it was just the perfect time to unleash the no. 7 and for the plan to come together. And we sure love it when a plan comes together! But despite the win there's still a lot to be improved on especially on how the players to play as a team and work as a unit. |

QUOTE(sKyWiR3pT3lTd @ Aug 23 2011, 09:21 PM) Can't wait for Bolton game. We have pretty good record against them. Hoping for another win on the card and keep marching onto top flight. Don't expect an easy game. I watched them against ManCity. They played well and gave a good fight. Not sure how many new players they have in the team, but they seem to gel better than our own squad at the moment. Reo Coker, Muamba, Eagles (x MU), Klasnic, Kevin Davies are all decent players. Hoping KD's tactic to come out on top again. |

QUOTE(GrandElf @ Aug 25 2011, 04:25 PM) He's done ok. But still not in the level of match fitness as he was end of last season. I think this competition is good for him to regain his sharpness and fitness. |

Based on the matches we have played so far, I think we still need one more world class/quality attacking player (could be midfielder or striker). Some one in the age of 30+ that we don't have to spend much on but still have quality to offer. Raul Gonzalez, Milan Baros, Garcia...Forlan maybe too expensive
I agree right now we have a squad full of young players with tremendous potentials. But judging from how they played so far, most of them only displayed I think 50-60% of their full potentials. It may take sometimes before we see them play to their fullest. Take for example one incident in the first half yesterday, when Suarez got passed 2 or 3 players and then he passed to Carroll. Carroll eventually end up losing the ball. And I was like "why can't he does a simple thing such as keeping possession?" Don't' get me wrong. I think Carroll will come good when he reach the sharpness and fitness. And understandably Suarez is a level above everyone else as he came fresh from Copa. But we may not have the luxury of time to wait for that. I echo with sentiments of those who mentioned that we might struggle to find goals if Suarez got injured. So a quality back up who doesn't mind sitting on the bench is important while we wait for our newly assembled squad to blend and reach their potentials. |

At 1-0 Bolton is very much in the game. Hopefully we will not be wasteful in front of goal in 2nd half
