The liverpool "unsmall fortune" has been spent on a youngster in Henderson, who had 1 good season 2 years ago, a midfielder in Charlie Adam who, lets face facts, liverpool didn't need and a winger who they did, but probably over-paid for. United on the other hand signed a young defender/midfielder as cover for Vidic, maybe not needed right now, but a target others were sniffing around, a winger/attacking midfielder proven in the Prem and a top class 'keeper who was desperately needed. Yes, that little lot cost £48 million, but then Liverpool's 3 cost £47 million so United's business will be deemed better value. That said, if Downing can continue last seasons form and Henderson is given time to grow in to the club, they will be good signings. Not sure about Adam though!
