Hi all, I'm currently planning to do my Computer Science degree at Monash (Sunway campus) upon completion of my Diploma at Multimedia University.

- Is it true that the standard of School of IT @ Monash is dropping?
- On average, what is the amount of students for each intake?
- Lecturers' standard?
- Facilities? (Lab pc, etc)
- Is this a wise decision? Any other recommendations?

Thanks

They stopped offering the IT degree. Only Computer Science remains. The remaining IT subjects are being pushed as electives to students from other faculties. If you are enrolling next year, you can also join Software Engineering. This is a 4 year Honours programme with accreditation from the board of engineers.

I think there's 40 in the main intake in March, and there's less people in July. About 1 or 2 in August which is accelerated July intake plus summer school to catch up.

Lecturers are really smart, no doubt about that. Graduated from the likes of Melbourne, NUS, Cambridge, UK Russell Group unis. But what they say about the smartest people don't necessarily make the best teachers does ring true. As in brilliant but can't explain like a layperson.

There are two labs in the school of IT - all i5/i7 computers with 24" 1080p monitors. There's also other open labs in the Engineering building and the library. You can also borrow HP Folio ultrabooks and iPads from the library if you don't want to bring your own laptop. There's a nice lounge with sofas with folding tables for you to chill with laptops. There's a robotics lab for final year project and PhD students. They have Kinect, quadrocopters, Lego Mindstorms, and Nao (humanoid robot, for PhD only).

Go if you can work hard because there's no alternative when you drop out. Previously students who fail core subjects in Computer Science would switch to IT with minimal disruption to studies. Now there's no alternative, you'd have to switch to courses from other faculties and use your subjects as electives. Alternatives? Taylor's for RMIT (considered to be on the same level as Group of 8) degree but the standard isn't as high as it's easier. Sunway College for Lancaster degree - not recommended because there's no standards there - plagiarism and selling assignments.

Hello,

Are they any minimum requirement for undergraduate courses? For example I achieved 3.04 for my taylors foundation and I would like to enroll in computer science @ monash.

For Foundation, they will consider on a case-by-case basis as they don't explicitly state entry requirements for different foundations.

Yeah you can, but it cannot be changed to a scholarship(exemption from the loan repayment) even if you meet the requirement which is getting a First Class Honours for your Bachelor's Degree. So you can EITHER choose to take both the High Achiever's Scholarship and PTPTN loan which in the end you need to repay the loan OR choose to get only PTPTN loan and study hard to get First Class Honours or else you'll end up getting no tuition fee waiver at all.
If you're not getting the FULL LOAN from PTPTN, I advise you to accept High Achiever's Scholarship because the amount of the scholarship and partial loan from ptptn will be around the same and the High Achiever's Scholarship has the advantage over the PTPTN loan because it's 100% non repayable even if you don't get the First Class honours, you'll just have to meet the minimum  requirement that's set by the university which is easier to achieve than First Class Honours.

Depends on what course you're doing. School of Medicine and Engineering have Honours as part of your course. In the other schools, Honours is optional. PTPTN officer said they will convert the loan to a scholarship if the university issues a letter stating your results in the 3 year degree is equivalent to First Class Honours. Even if you do well, Monash won't issue such a letter.

hello im new in monash !
Can someone please tell me where is monash library?
where is the entrance and any dress code for entering the library?
Can i bring my bag into the library?
Thanks !!

The library is right in front of you. Main gate, enter the foyer. The building in the middle with glass panels and a rooftop. No dress code as far as I know. Yes of course you're allowed to bring your bag into the library. Mind that you don't use your bags and stuff to reserve a place at a desk/computer as it's really annoying.
