For those who are in Sunway Campus and study IT... Don't take FIT2018, you will deeply regret it. Those who already took it already know why... Added on April 28, 2012, 7:23 pmQUOTE(Strada @ Apr 25 2012, 11:23 AM) Guys ive got my conditional offer from nottingham, now im having second thoughts and thinking about monash aswell.. Based on your experience which one is better? Im going to do Computor Science.. I don't know how things are in Nottingham but personally for me, I don't think that Monash is worth what we are paying them. Why is that. Because perhaps facilities are good and etc, but you know, here you will have lots of phd student as your tutors who don't know practically anything what they are tutoring. You come with a questions to them and they don't know what to reply. The reason of this is that management they just assign the tutors practically randomly. Maybe they do it i order to save money on salary, I don't know exactly. But what i am sure about is that Monash is not worth 36k i am paying for. That's why i will try to transfer to some public university. I don't think it would be worse that Monash. SO if no difference, why pay more? P.S. I am talking only about School of IT, I don't know how things are in other schools. This post has been edited by mehron: Apr 28 2012, 07:25 PM

QUOTE(malleus @ Apr 28 2012, 11:41 PM) heh.. the fellow is actually a very decent academic. if you can stay awake that is. we used to call him 'dead man walking' Added on April 28, 2012, 11:47 pmThe purpose is actually to off load some of the work from the lecturers, and also to get the post grad students some field experience. Before transferring, check and compare on the syllabus first. that is where the main difference lies at. say, out of curiosity, are you doing Comp Sci or IT? The problem is not that we have post grads as tutors, the problem's that they don't know what are they teaching about. So when you have unclear moments, they don't know how to solve it. P.S. I am doing IT.

QUOTE(Home Made Cookies @ May 1 2012, 05:26 PM) You probably never seen other universities then. If there is a problem with the tutor, you can always change tutor or just consult the lecturer. If you can't take it, you can always complain to the head of school. Consult the lecturer, they always help. This happens everywhere. In case you don't know, approximately a year ago, Victoria University lecturers were having a strike and holding the results of the students.. If some other universities can face such catastrophe, I'd say we are doing decent.. Not to say very good as well as some ex-lecturers are not being replaced.. Dude the thing is I've already complained about some issues (and not only me, some other students). I even conducted a mini-survey, asking students about their satisfaction with the subject, and i got very alarming results. I went with all these to the head of the school and coordinator and I've been promised some changes. So far 4 weeks has past and nothing has changed. They all say that they will discuss the issue on a meeting which is always being postponed. Now, I think, that if you really want to do something you can do it earlier not waiting for some stupid meeting. What I understood from all this experience is that they don't really care. Seriously, monash is not woth 36k per year.

QUOTE(satsugai @ May 1 2012, 10:08 PM) Nah, he was alright, boring, but such was the nature of the subject . what pissed me off was that he didn't give us his own notes(which he tends to explain from) despite giving em to his past students. That really irked me. Made it feel like he was half-assing it from the start. This kind of attitude is really killing.
