QUOTE(evofantasy @ Jan 29 2013, 03:09 PM) dun think there's a SE degree in Monash. it's mainly comp science but SE is one of the major units in it (3rd year). as someone pointed out b4, the comp sci degree from Monash is pretty much the best among Aus Uni. my ex coursemates found some good job at Accenture, Microsoft etc. alright. thanks for the info. but how about the local lecturers ? are they good ? |

QUOTE(evofantasy @ Jan 29 2013, 08:19 PM) some are good some are average. pretty much depends. and usually there are lecturer changes, part-timers etc so can't really say. the thing about tertiary education is that lecturers jz act as guide instead of spoon-feeding you which i think most locals aren't used to. it is the same for those in overseas. u still act on ur own but the lecturers/ tutors would be happy to assist u with questions generally as long as it is within scope. agree with you, but then as in my uni, good lecturers are leaving and new lecturers are not very experienced and when we asked them questions, they cant really explain. |

QUOTE(thistle @ Jul 5 2013, 10:38 PM) They stopped offering the IT degree. Only Computer Science remains. The remaining IT subjects are being pushed as electives to students from other faculties. If you are enrolling next year, you can also join Software Engineering. This is a 4 year Honours programme with accreditation from the board of engineers. thanks for the infoI think there's 40 in the main intake in March, and there's less people in July. About 1 or 2 in August which is accelerated July intake plus summer school to catch up. Lecturers are really smart, no doubt about that. Graduated from the likes of Melbourne, NUS, Cambridge, UK Russell Group unis. But what they say about the smartest people don't necessarily make the best teachers does ring true. As in brilliant but can't explain like a layperson. There are two labs in the school of IT - all i5/i7 computers with 24" 1080p monitors. There's also other open labs in the Engineering building and the library. You can also borrow HP Folio ultrabooks and iPads from the library if you don't want to bring your own laptop. There's a nice lounge with sofas with folding tables for you to chill with laptops. There's a robotics lab for final year project and PhD students. They have Kinect, quadrocopters, Lego Mindstorms, and Nao (humanoid robot, for PhD only). Go if you can work hard because there's no alternative when you drop out. Previously students who fail core subjects in Computer Science would switch to IT with minimal disruption to studies. Now there's no alternative, you'd have to switch to courses from other faculties and use your subjects as electives. Alternatives? Taylor's for RMIT (considered to be on the same level as Group of 8) degree but the standard isn't as high as it's easier. Sunway College for Lancaster degree - not recommended because there's no standards there - plagiarism and selling assignments. will be enrolling into comp science July intake. hope to see you guys during orientation |
