I'm under engineering! =)

Anyway I have a question. How do I log into the computers in the library/ around the campus? Previously I've changed my password for my authcate and everything works fine except for logging into the computers in the university. Any steps that I have missed out?
*
The computer system works on a different password as the authcate, u need to see the ITS desk in the 4-sided service desk in the library ground floor to set your password

What do you guys do if your lectures/classes clash? Just wanna know. I have clashing class/lecture this sem, hopefully can handle the subject without going for lecture. sad.gif
*
that depends on the number of affected students and how many morning people cum non-drivers there are...

last time i had clashing lec caused by trade finance ecw2721, cos the lecturer was moonlighting some other uni so afternoon times are not available..clashed with money and caps..so our unit was deemed less important as money+caps was a huge class..at first set 6-8pm, banyak complains.. then change to 8-9 x2 instead.. i had "private lectures" in my car almost all the time...kept missing it because i was stuck at the kesas summit junction.

I don't get why the nuggets keep increasing their price. When it first started out, one packet costed Rm 2.90. Then went up to Rm 3.00. And now RM 3.50.

probably in kl,those jalan pasar/pudu areas but the petrol going and back would cost more than the rm30 or so difference.. the cost of using even a new one is only rm30 or so cos u can sell it used the next sem rolleyes.gif or even free if you buy used laugh.gif

looks like monash is getting more and more commercialized. although making $$$/breaking even is important, i believe as an respectable institution they have a standard and reputation to maintain.
*
MONey and cASH sound familiar to you somewhat? It seems like its only good from the outside/on paper but internal mgmt sucks.. alot of incompetent staff sometimes.. hate the Q in finance counter cos there aint no right button to press.. there's effectively 5 or 6 different Q's and a long wait.. standing in line back then was so much faster

International business sure is popular!
*
Yup cos its a major-inclusive unit for both IB and mgmt.. but if u have electives can try PSY1011 if u like to read cos its a MCQ paper, 100Q but kinda tricky.. also can try AFW1310 Islamic banking.. only two formulas for calculation, rest is words and diagrams

I'm okay with taking up random electives, but what about job prospects after graduation? All I want is just my foot in the door, and that's it. sad.gif
Exactly. Did you graduate with a single major?  icon_question.gif
*
Reason being why most ppl like to do 2 majors is that a course has 24 units (herein referred to as 24u)
One major 8 units
Core units 6 units
Balance 10 units; thats why if u minus 8 for 2nd major, u only have 2 electives to choose from.

IB is a rojak major, bit of finance, econs, mgmt so maybe u might want to consider taking IB.
Finance has good prospects, even better with econs if u can manage it. "London Tokyo NY HK" finance hubs lol

P.S / Do we have like a LowYat meet up or something? It'll definitely be nice to know more people around.

Double summer is not as easy as it sounds brows.gif been there done that.

QUOTE(HawkreiN @ Jan 9 2012, 06:51 PM)
There are no graduates from this course from Monash Sunway yet since the first intake was back in Feb 2011. It appears to be the same Bachelor or Commerce course offered in Clayton, differing from Bachelor of Business and Commerce. From what I gathered from attending the course preview last year, it differs because:

1) Apparently more difficult both to enter and in terms of subjects
2) Much smaller classes (due to smaller intake and entry requirements)
3) Try to focus on more case studies during tutorials
4) More in depth syllabus in accounting?
5) Justified by their higher fees...

I decided to opt for Bachelor of Business and Commerce instead. while you can choose the same major(s), they claim that the subjects are of a different depth which i am unable to confirm. Its best you talked to the business school to discuss your options. However, I personally don't know why it costs more in Malaysia because in Australia, they have the same fees there. Consider a number of factors: what you stand to gain, does the extra cost justify this, will employers prefer this degree, do you like a large or small class etc. One thing to bear in mind though, for all the years that Monash was in Malaysia, Monash Sunway grads have ever only had the Bachelor of Business and Commerce degree and still managed to easily land jobs in the big 4 and banks provided they performed well.

Not trying to influence your decision in any way, just sharing what I know. Best that you spoke to reps from the Business School. Hope you make the right choice for yourself!  biggrin.gif
*
With regards to the BBusComm degree.. well, as a product of that course, I got myself a few interviews and landed a job in an MNC along Sultan Ismail within a week or two of applying on Jobstreet.

Let me share what employers are more concerned about: they are NOT picky as to which course you take AS LONG AS the course fits the requirements of the job, and that you have COMPLETED the course.

I'll provide frank and full disclosure. To be honest, my GPA is crap, but average is 65%.

Quite a number of companies (4-5 out of 15 applied) have responded/asked me for interviews.

1 sem extra should not be a problem getting friends to grad with you.. 2 sems extra will be a problem though brows.gif

Hello all! I'll be starting at Monash this February under the BA (Global) course. I've been obsessively trawling the net for any info on Monash student life for the past few months. Thought I should bite the bullet and ask here biggrin.gif

What are good, cheap food found near the campus without having to drive a car? Also, and this is a particular concern of my father's lol, are there any hazing rituals done during Orientation? I'm an older student and I really can't be arsed to attend Orientation but it's a good way to make friends I suppose so I'm conflicted.

What's the percentage of International students like on campus? Particularly for the Arts courses?

What's a good bank to use? I'll be going to Malaysia soon to open an account before I officially move there.

Is there a big fiction section in the campus library?

What are the streets like in the evening around the campus area? Is it a good idea to go jogging out of campus?

TIA!
*
We have Maybank and RHB on campus in monash, and CIMB ATM's down the road inside sunway uni.

With regards to personal safety, it will be rather boring to jog around the campus or on the treadmill, but it is certainly safer. The roads around sunway area "are not fit for humans to walk" without risking your life to traffic, let alone criminals.. the pavement suddenly ends etc.

For business u do not need the statistics book.. U can buy it for extra practice but if your stats in alevels/pre-u was good I'd say its not required.. I survived stats 1102 with just the past year Q and attended all the tutes. Unless you are dead set on transferring out to clayton/caulfield then you'd look into taking stats 1000. 1102 was a walk in the park if u did stats up to level 3 in a levels XD

As for micro econs 1101 whichever version u buy also the same. Supply and demand etc has never changed over the years. maybe the examples changed a little but the important part is that u read the book, not worry bout which edition it is.

Btw, is etw1000 a lot harder than etw1102? sad.gif

Added on February 26, 2012, 11:48 pm

Ya I afraid later I picked etw1000 business and economic statistics later couldn't transfer to other campuses in case I change my mind..like digging my own grave  sweat.gif
*
Depends.. if ur stats is strong, then learn to write fast to the point that, for me, "running out of time in an exam is NOT an excuse". .cos ETW1000 is 2hrs exam n 7-8Q (IIRC). ETW1102 3hrs, more than enough time to REDO the whole thing for fun.

If u take 1000, try out faster pens e.g. Pilot G-tec/Hi-tec..get the 0.5 rather than 0.4, less prone to jamming. It is a very clinical, sterile thin line, but still gets the job done and won't hurt cos very little pressure is required to write.. hence, you can write more and finish early/on time. Its also like a Ferrari - have to manja it (ie. DO NOT DROP AT ALL COSTS), u treat it well, it will certainly treat u well. Case in point: I managed to salvage a question in company law 2213..4Q.. answered 1Q wrong, then realised it, then did a double-time rescue.. k lah, din manage to copy everything but still gotten like 3.7 out of 4Q answered. biggrin.gif result: Distinction.
