Does paying a lot for uni fees means that you should be spoon fed with solution to assignment problems? We are in uni now, research are part of our learning life now especially in IT field. I am actually glad that I was given a challenging assignment instead of assignment which I can easily score by just copying from the textbook, after all when you enter the working world, you WILL be spending your time researching for solution again, that time are you going to whine about how people are not guiding you? In fact, I actually find exams useless for most IT subjects as it does not fully test a student's ability to apply what they learn.

Trial and error, that is what we have been taught since the early days of our IT life in Monash. If you have no initiative to put effort to research, understand and apply then you have yourself to be blamed.

I couldn't agree more with the bolded statement and also the rest. I, myself took FIT2018, after quackpack took his. Yes, I do agree it was a little tough during the final assignment. My team mates and I were busting our asses out till the late nights in campus trying to get those machines working the way they should be. My tutor was practically not helping, the tutor wasn't even sure of my questions. So what did we do? Google of course. Oh, and trips to the library to get more books on that particular issue. That's the way you should do it.

But do I regret taking that unit? No. Why? Because where's the fun in learning when you can't get all these challenges? And this actually helps you get ready for the upcoming working life. You don't expect your working days to be relaxing also, right? At least you'll be getting used to the environment earlier.

And again, no one is going to spoon feed you in uni, it's already a known fact. No employers outside will spoon feed you as well. If you're going to depend 101% on your tutors and lecturers, I can say it will be the same no matter which uni you go. You're an IT/Comp Sc student, you should know how to Google and research for your own information. Lecturers and tutors are just there to guide you with the best they can, don't forget, they're not perfect but they shouldn't be VERY bad as well.
