anyway, not kidding now. plugged in my phone for almost 60mins now since this morning. battery was almost flat. after 60mins, its only at 6%.

about 10mins ago, i have shutdown most applications running i background. not doing any surfing on it, etc... the phone is now idle. noviber, whatsapp, skype, etc running. normally charging isn't that slow. and battery's really at 46C for the past 30mins... hmmm... i'll monitor for the next 10mins. worst case, restart the phone and see how.

update. phone battery at 9% now. but temperature still at 46C. this is not normal for me. charging it with the phone slightly lifted -- left it lying on a pen.

looks like i'll shut down the phone, remove battery and plug in... monitor for the next 15mins...

and dang... i left that cooling patch at home. <--- this one is a joke.

********************************
added: skype is annoying. din start it but its running in the background after i restarted my phone. i dun recall enabling 'start service automatically'... bad skype.

anyway, after taking out battery and plugging back in... temp is at 34C. will see how it goes after 15mins.

usually this is because some malicious apps running at your background..

dun scare me la... i'm considered generally a 'safe' user. phone not rooted. apps are usually from Market, except for 2-3 from the Game Hub. when not installing from 3rd party, the check box is left unchecked.

i think could be just some stupid apps going haywire on me. funny thing is... only happened this morning. the changes made since yesterday was... yesterday, i installed whatsapp and viber.

*********************************************
oh ya... battery update. charging is now faster (or at least i feel its faster). now @ 24% and 36C (which is more the normal temp for me when phone is being charged).

looks like we're hitting double-digit v10 this weekend...

hmm, i read all the infos on first page already but still didn't see anything about upgrading the sgs2 firmware except rooting it and then update it. but my sgs2 is not rooted and currently has baseband version DXKF1. the build number is XWKF1. how can i update my sgs2 without rooting it? thanks.
*
QUOTE(benny888 @ Jul 29 2011, 11:45 AM)
If you do not wish to root, your only option is :

-Update it thro KIES - this is very slow and the updates are also very backdated when available. You will only know whether your firmware can have a later update by just connecting it to PC and launch KIES.  Example now is already at KG3. Most probably your nextupdate will only be KF2 or KF3 or KF4. KG series is most unlikely

The power of root : Analogous you have a BMW 525i car but inside is only a 1600 cc engine. Root it and unleash the 2500 ccc power inside it

hmmmm... this is what i get when i check my phone info...

Model number:

Android version:

Baseband version:

Kernel version:
2.6.35.7-I9100XWKF1-CL265340
root@DELL106#2
Build number:
GINGERBREAD.XWKF1

my phone is unrooted... so wondering if the line marked red is normal.

we can't update the firmware direct from the phone? as in... settings --> about phone --> software update.

another Q... i noticed when i click applications icon... some of the pages have got an empty box. i tot it would auto populate the boxes?

adding another Q... how to know what is the latest firmware? is it published on Samsung site?

Is NORMAL - it just shows the source of the kernel ; the word root does not mean it is rooted

You can update firmware ( if available ) through KIES ; if you are lucky you can get it done within an hour ; if you are unlucky it can drag several hours as KIES is stiill very buggy and its performance is heavily affected by your 3rd party installations in your PC. Unless you are tech savvy and has the time to troubleshoot , you can remove those 3rd party software affecting it. Some guys puirposely format their PC just to get KIES working perfectly to update their phone firmware

You can look it up at www.samfirmware.com - you need to register to access site and view firmware listing and download
*
samfirmware.com is official samsung site?

anyway, will check it out soon...

guess its not official site. still good site to visit.

oh ya... this morning when i was taking out my sgs2 battery, i took the opportunity to check the details...

the warranty sticker did not indicate any month/ year.

but the battery had a manufacturing date (i think -- the description is written in chinese)... 25th June 2011. but i dun think this indicates the handset manufacturing date...

just thought i'd share... for whatever reasons...

which reminds me... i always wanted to ask... last time i recall reading posts about how members say their phone detected XYZ satellites.

what apps is used to do that? or is that a phone setting or code we can dial to check? just curious as to how many satellites are above me and detected by my sgs2.

need to also remember to make fair comparison -- how long have you been using SP and how long you compared when phone without SP.

typically (though might not apply to you), when phone is without SP, ppl usually wash their hands before touching. after apply SP, eating french fries also can molest the phone with the same fingers. smile.gif

plus, if compare with only 1-2days without SP, personally, i feel its not a good comparison.

just thought i'd ask you guys... how do you browse for apps?

i noticed the web-based... its usually displaying top apps only. i read there are like 500k apps... assuming i have the time... is there a way to browse thru them? i remember trying on the web 1-2 days back, but after like 20pages (i think), it does not display any more...

To all Sifus, I realy need help here, I've got a problem with Kies not syncing my contacts in my phone... When it hits 10%, it says "Stopped loading contacts from GS I9100"
*
a Q back to you is... what do you need kies for?

honestly, i installed it and found it totally useless.

plus, i did ask earlier on today... there is an option to check for phone software directly from the phone. is it safe to say this can also be used to detect and install the latest firmware? if so, i totally dun need kies at the moment. if i recall correctly, kies can useful for those rooting, right?

A: lol, to backup the phone?

If you have another way of backing up the phone, can you mind sharing please...

because for me, as a first time user of Samsung/Kies, and an ex-user of Nokia/Symbian, I expect the software which came with the phone SHOULD be working well with the phone so that we can safely backup our phone easily as for Nokia/Symbian/Ovi...
*
i think i shared a few pages back... Android is all about Google. So for contacts, sync back to your Gmail. It took me like 2-4weeks to actually clean up my Gmail contacts. but since i know I'd be getting an Android phone at that time, I did the clean up first. Downloaded Gmail contacts, exported another copy from Outlook (which was from my old phone), merged them one by one on Excel, cleaned up the fields, then uploaded back.

now i'm also using Google Calendar.

what else to backup? SMS? see reply by earlier member on that. same with apps backup. as for data... i just copy and paste la... smile.gif

you can also try: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.z...s.smssync&hl=en
