Hi learned bros,

In terms of reliability, which should I go for

1) Lenove Y470 or
2)Asus N43 (I can't wait until October for N45 to come out..)

i am against spending too much money on laptop because you wont use it for more than 2 or 3 years and even if you buy the best of best now it will become out of fashion obsolete in 1 year like i bought 2 gb core 2 duo laptop when even desktops came with atmost 1gb ram after a year all laptops started with 3gb as a lowest configuration..it was sheer wastage of money laptops are and will never will able to do heavy duty stuff there speakers screen can never replace even cheap desktop configurations you will only bad after 6 months when you will see a much better specs at low price

My laptop has served me well for the last 5 years. But it is time to get a new one now. A lot of blue screen now,and heating issue.I bought an IBM thinkpad t60,that was donkey years ago.Damn reliable,I think I never shut off properly my lappy since I bought it.It was priced at that time,I think, more than 5k.

Hi learned bros,

I have come here to beseech your esteemed knowledge, yet again biggrin.gif

Previously I have decided my budget between 2-3k,preferable brand between Lenovo or Asus.So that left me with y470 or n43 (or now n45).However! My main sponsor aka parents have said to try and find a good laptop suitable for my "needs",and I asked them how much is their budget.
Answer: 3-5k!~

Hehe so now I am in the market searching for a more powerful lappy suitable to my parents budget (LOL)

Brand: Asus/Lenove/Alienware(!)/better brands (?)

Budget: 3-5k

Screen size: 14-15" (I prefer 14 due to its portability,but I don't mind 15)

Usage: Normal university usage (only microsoft office stuffs, not software rendering or video editing etc),heavy downloading of movies, little bit of gaming (but I hope it will have the firepower to play Diablo 3!)

Preferance: Light (if possible),long battery hours (I like to lepak at coffee shop and do my revision for long hours),sturdy and tough (in case of accidents etc),decent speaker, not heating up quickly (but I can buy cooling fan)

It seems a lot of the higher spec lappy are gaming laptops, and I don't really mind them (eventho I may not be a hardcore gamer) since they look freaking awesome!

When substance is roughly the same I'll go for style anytime, budget permitting tongue.gif

Thank you in advance for your advice, bros notworthy.gif

Asus U46Sv ?

The best 14'' for now is AlienWare M14x, but it isn't really that 'light'...

ah yes, light is just a bonus,it's not essential.i think that requirement is quite idealistic;i might just buy a tablet or ultrabook etc actually. In fact i am waiting for asus transformer 2 for really light usage on the go (I liked ipad2,but as there's no flash,it's NG for me)

as for m14x,actually i think it looks freaking cool! (eventho i might not utilise it's true capabilities fully). But i am just worried that other gaming laptop might have better spec w/ the same price range as compared to alienware.. hmm.gif

Asus u46 looks promising too actually! I will have to research about this model actually, thanks for pointing it out smile.gif
