Apparently according to ahWang it is a racist slur. I am not the first person to use this term, /k/ has been using it for a very very long time, yet I never saw any of them being banned. So why am I singled out for this? If you need to ban everyone that uses the 'indog' term, look no further than here.

http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/1953263

If it was a bannable statement it should have been enforced all these while. I never know this term can result in suspension.

Why do you have to add a "g" at the back anyway? Makes you look smarter?

Or 4 letter word is just too hard for you to spell properly?

I have Indonesian relatives as well so yes, it sounds offending if you ask me.

'Nikka' is offensive too, anything can be offensive it the party considers it offensive. But this is not an Indonesian or American forum, this is a Malaysian forum. There is a difference....if there is a rule against something...it should be consistent....

Admin or Staff please answer this question. And as for the requirement to email to helpdesk: Been there, done that. Never got any reply before.

Who says that we didn't suspend those that uses racial slur in their comment?
FYI, you're not the first one whom get suspended for using the term "indog". During the time when Malaysia vs Indonesia soccer match period; more had suffer your same fate.

So as part of the community, if you do see someone posting racial slurs; pls do your part as a community to report them.

Thanks.

Strictly speaking, the word Chinaman or Japs are racial slurs too, CCNNN too.

but nowadays ppl are not as sensitive as they were especially on the internet thats why ppl arent too concern about the usage of these words. In fact, ppl use them a lot, just that no one will get angry over such petty matter, making it looks its pretty OK to do so. However, mods have a duty to do their job... to regulate the forums.

It didn't went well for the Indonesian team...

Anyway, I would suggest that you sit out in the dug for a couple of days (depending how many days were given) and come right into the pitch on a later date.

Think mods's point is there should be a punishment for Nationality insult more than public party's sarcasm, public party's representation public individual sarcasm, public individual's representation, public individual's insult and misspell.

On this case.

BN cybertroop- public party's representation

PKR cybertroop- public party's representation

BN fag- public party's sarcasm

PKR fag- public party's sarcasm

ibrahim katak- public individual's insult

ibrahim fag- public individual's insult

bijian- public individual sarcasm

'melei' -misspell

'cainis'- misspell

'sepet'- race insult (But unable to determine an absolute intention of the poster so nothing can be done)

Thats how I see it... Race and nationality insult is by far a more serious offense compared to others.

We Malaysians are showing how immature we are . Wanted the best and most stable broadband, but behave like kids online. TS insist its FINE to call them such names as long as he is in "home turf" (extreme herd mentality.. got gang to backup and cheer him on like hero every time he utter such words?) .

Judging by the same logic, he should be "cool" people calling him with various colourful names, as long as they dont do it inside his house.

For once... if we want to look down on other people and enjoys naming them such ways , fine. do it inside own room or in toilet. But LYN is a public forum.. which could represents majority of Malaysians (youths) collective attitude towards the rest of the world . Don't be a laughing stock.

I'm afraid that I'll misspelled some banned words in the future. Is it possible to automatically change any banned words to spagettimonster or whatever so no one gonna be banned and everyone can contribute to the /K without any worries and curiosity? Most of us here don't have a lot of time to check from time to time what is the recent banned words due to we are working people and /K is the only place everyone gathering to enjoy free time. This would also save the time and energy for the mod to monitor or execute banhammer to the offender where this would benefit to the community of green computing too.

With best regards

2. whether we FSM a word - you'll still be suspended, after all you're using the word. sure, you can have F followed by *** and it's still going to get you a suspension.

i actually find that by automatically change bad words to **** is quite a good move. just like what Irzani says, sometimes people don't come to here for sometime, and won't know which is the latest banned words

If some words can be easily change to FSM, i think by changing those bad words to ***** should be able to implemented quite easily, no? This will reduce the workload of the mod too

oh ya, btw, if F followed by *** gonna get suspension, then I guess people gona use french connection UK later, a brand name yea?

Yeah that'll definitely work, because the mods are machines with no ability to interpret contextually.

Don't be unnecessarily offensive and derogatory, is that so hard to go by? Do we really need a list for that?

LOL. refer to what Crazy.SoT.Gila.

https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/657038

my take is very simple - if you WANT to use a particular word, then you better find out yourself whether it's permissible.

sorry, we're not going to compile a dictionary just because you people can't have good, clean posts. in fact it's pointless to do so anyway, look at how many variations of the F word you can find in /k/ - we can list all we and and automate what we can, I won't be surprise if people still find funny ways to work-around the implementation.

so there - really, we're not doing it because we know how you people behave. tell you guys not to post you still will post. smile.gif we decide to let you guys play in the mine-field - at least this time you guys would actually THINK before you post.

interesting thread, but the west or pretty much every forum in west allows any kind of word. and every now and then people has been using it and non of other members have any problem with it.

like

Damn
Shit
F*** with 4 letters (apparently is censored)
Idiot
A**h*** (again censored)

It is not that I like to promote these word usage but the whole thing is even in all the TV drama/movies. It is infact already in the culture itself. My question are lowyat heading to opposite of freedom of speech? I tot these are only happening to our conservative foolish gov. Now lowyat forum? I hope we are not following the footstep "conservative" our gov.

off topic : I just found out that our gov censored, "freaking idiot", "idiot". this is new level of censoring to me. doh.gif good job ...I keep getting a lot of short mute in our own TV program, and it keep getting more frequent, because our gov are more strict than ever.

i happened to notice this thread as it was flagged. i totally agree that people should learn to use proper, respectful language.
this is a public forum, and everyone can see it (including children).

i do not think every forum in west allows, only some or maybe those you visit.

not everyone uses words you list below, i don't and i'm sure many other don't either. ppl just think they sound cool using these words.

this has got nothing to do with free speech, these are the rules of this forum.
it's a free world, if you don't like it and want to go to a forum with lots of disrespectful language, there are all out there.

i'm all in support of ensuring clean language here, so mod/admin please keep up this good work. thanks!

Agree with what the mods/admins doing to keep this forum clean and what poolcarpet said about this not having anything to do with freedom of speech. Nothing in this world can get 100% freedom of anything. Humans are bound by laws and regulations.

I totally agree with Admin. No such thing like you won't be warned/banned if the offensive word is FSMed. It's not whether the word is censored or not, it's the intention. You can spew the offensive words all over the forum and they will be FSMed but you will still get warned/banned because of it. Good job Admin!!

If everybody exercise some self-restraint and reply more maturely, FSM wouldn't even be needed nor a need to clarify any rules down to every single bit on the internet. Sadly this is not the case(especially in this forum) as even in this thread, some user put up a poker face and troll. People will just seek clarification, make a workaround, and try to be a hero, when that fail, they complain here that they didn't get their medal of knighthood. Internet, makes your common sense 10 years youngers(more immature/retarded that is)

Freedom of speech doesn't equates to freedom without responsibility.

Isn't that the same here at the moment? Unless you're terribly unlucky people butthurt and reported your post, which if you're very hated in certain section, is guaranteed to happen.

There's still a fair number of 'tofu skin', 'the organization that regulate taekwondo' out there. Even when I use it, I don't go all out (What the-) or just simply use milder one, and not direct it at anybody. smile.gif

Freedom of speech doesn't meant you have the right to insult others. Like what seagate mentioned; we have an open-1-close-1 eye policy most of the time. However, some are intolerable and even more so apparent if someone reports it.
It's basically common sense.

Not only starting since then. Such ban was since forever there; only it became worst thus the mass spamming then when some "smart" guys decided to go taunt kaskus forum and sort of inviting a cyber war between the 2 forums as well as the 2 nations.

other possible ways are like

Think about the bright side, Kopitiam has became what everybody wanted to be, sans the mentioned concern of the topic.

I could still remember when Ops /k/ was initialized, it was so formalized during that time.

Good to know that u & seagate clear things up, one eye open/close are acceptable as said in my post. I just do not wish this forum going the same strict rules like our gov. We all know we might have once a blue moon have this "outburst" for swearing/whining. Although it has been a while I didnt use those words.

For me, if I'm in LYN forum, just follow what the rules. Not satisfied? Create new forum! Not literate? Go learn it!

This forum is not based on public poll, for us to choose new mods/words that can be said OPENLY. Also, by calling names, just make you look like Ke"justify"an family lor.... So good at calling names....LOL.

If you wanted full forum filtering/enforcement on these foul words, pay these mods BIG TIME. And I mean more than what CyberSecurity people can get....

2. whether we FSM a word - you'll still be suspended, after all you're using the word. sure, you can have F followed by *** and it's still going to get you a suspension.

1) Perhaps in your eyes, they make a lot of mess. But in our eyes, we are very happy to mingle around and contribute anything we can find. Still got a lot of contributions, example topic about train, world war II, ghost, the beauty of woman and man, recent news of model, grammar nazi, football madness, comic of daily life where it brings back the nostalgia of campus life, and a lot of things that no one can find in other serious subforum that we actually tired of discussing and prepared a lot of report and research paper during normal working hours. We smile and sometimes we even laugh. Its such a virtual kopitiam where everyone gather together to discuss non-serious and non-formal business. Reduce our depression from the real life that may bring some of us to 14th floor. It really contributes a lot to our health and our days.

2) Example : Why not changed it to "love", no need to censored. Hey f*** you .. automatically Hey love you. Isn't that lovely? wub.gif wub.gif wub.gif

With best regards

smile.gif ok I didn't choose my words that well but I think you should know that I'm referring to the mess-makers.

We get many reports there and a whole lot of nonsense. if Kopitiam was truly like the bolded part 90% of the time then I wouldn't have to start Ops Kopitiam.

Those things are encouraged, however with the many nonsense people

a) starting nonsense threads
b) having the ability to turn a casual thread into nonsense

I sincerely hope Kopitiam will be a place for EVERYONE, not just a group of sick individuals who call themselves /k/ and making a mess of things, thinking that Kopitam or being "/k/" entitles them to breach forum R&R.

Which make censoring that word rather pointless IMO.

censorship (eg turning words into f***) is often build into the system. we leave it as that.

my post was in reference to why we
a) do not compile
b) do not set additional words to the system

got people feel offended for word like this? i think those word are normal(very normal in internet and even real life)

i think word like that didnt warrant a ban. what more important is the contextual meaning.

ii think even the F*** word are normal nowaday. if people think it is offensive, better they cut their internet.

I believe such words can be said unless the user insult someone or abuse the word.

many of those expressions can be done without using the F word.

those who think it's not offensive just have to live with the forum rules.

exactly some people likes to get personal to other, and this can be done easily without using any F word. usually it is good to report to admin for the offense, but i personally like to save mod time. I'll just add them into the mupet list(ignore list). I have been looking for any real good reason to use this under utilize board feature. biggrin.gif

There people using F world but not directing towards other, but more like whinning themselves.

Freedom of expression doesn't give you the right to insult others and be intentionally offensive.

Most of you wouldn't have the balls to say whatever you're saying in a forum to people irl and will most likely feel offended if you were treated the same way you've been treating others too.

just because somebody finds a term offensive, whoever uses the term will be deemed offensive?

so if a girl dresses sexily and some guy thinks it's inappropriate, the girl must be punished?

you only ban a word when MOST of us thinks it's offensive
