QUOTE(lleihuan @ May 1 2017, 03:14 PM) Saw the 1st episode a few days ago, recommended and will continue to follow this TV series. the 2nd episode is at its best,"Genius" looks at the life of Albert Einstein is good. Weekly,10 episode starting from 25th April to 27th June. From Walter Isaacson’s 2007 book Einstein: His Life And Universe. Takes you to Zurich Polytechnic Institude where he met his 2nd girlfriend and become his 1st wife(Mileva Maric),many have argued she may have contributed to his breakthroughs. Einstein really had an intresting life. the 2006 love letters discovered before the book was published shed light that Einstein love life with half a dozen girlfriends. the younger Einstein played by Johnny Flynn performance is very intresting. the series skillfully acted focuses on smaller human moments. 2nd episode almost ended with a little twist, when Maric return home to Serbie, met his father at the railway station and Maric,"I failed you" Father,"You'll try again" Consoling and hugging Maric, the father face expression changing..... Producers Ron Howard and Brian Grazer really makes you want to travel the journey along with them.Good storytelling. Even recently announced a second season. |

QUOTE(wyh @ May 6 2017, 11:52 PM) I would suggest watching it with subtitles or you won't be able to enjoyed and understand due to the thick accents. And watch the show on a bigger screen.select the video with 1080p. The show’s locations, production design and costumes. They are all top-notch. This year is a wide open race for under "Best Limited Series" for the Emmy Awards nominations from Feud,Fargo,The Night Of,Big Little Lies,Genius,When we rise and American Crime. |

Thanks to the earlier writer's recommendation.
Finished watching the first 4 episodes last night. This is mine review. Adaptation of Margaret Atwood's "speculative" fiction novel 30 years ago. Today no longer fictional,it exist today in several countries. The Handmaid's Tale is set in a not so near-future in what was once Boston, a terrible revolution, protests that turn deadly and ruled over by a fundamentalist cult. When infertility becomes rampant, women capable of giving birth have been enslaved as "handmaids". In today word, forced into sex slavery. Fertile woman that belongs to man for the sole purpose of childbearing. Very traumatic scene, the monthly “ceremony” when Offred (Elisabeth Moss) is raped, lying in the lap of her rapist’s wife. |

Genius Ep.4.1905 Patent office in Bern, Switzerland.
It was during this time here that Einstein works on paper about light waves. Mileva also a student of Physics help her husband with the research and to proofread his papers but her name never mentioned at all when his paper was published later. She was disappointed. It meant a lot to her. Einstein's mother moves in to help Albert and Mileva with their new baby,Hans.hence the two torn relationships between his mother and Mileva. Toward the end of the series, agent from the prestigious Prussian Academy in Berlin comes to visit Einstein in the patent office. And Einstein hands him a piece of paper with the equation "E=MC2" on it for his next project. No shame,we do not know much about this equations in details but E=mc2 has become one of the most famous equations in the world and influence on the world we live in today. Naming a few example based on this principle -Nuclear power -PET scans |

Gypsy(Debuts-June 30 2017,10 episodes of 60 minutes)
Executive producers-Naomi Watts, Liza Chasin. Cast Naomi Watts, Billy Crudup, Sophie Cookson, Lucy Boynton, Karl Glusman. Created by newcomer Lisa Rubin, reputable for screen-writing good sex scenes. Inspired by Fleetwood Mac's 1982 hit song"Gypsy". Stevie Nicks recorded a new version just for the show. Her new arrangement is pretty without the urgent emotion of the original. Naomi Watts as Jean Halloway, a Manhattan-based therapist with a good husband, Michael(Billy Crudup), and an adorable child, Dolly(Maren Heary). She spends her days seeing patients, discussing treatment plans with her colleagues. Invests too deeply in her patients' lives and crosses boundaries. First two episodes are directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson of(Fifty Shades of Grey). Naomi Watts has enough shine and appeal to make Gypsy an adventurous character study worth following. The Last Tycoon(2017)
Created, written and directed by Billy Ray (The Hunger Games and Captain Phillips) Matt Bomer as Monroe Stahr Lily Collins as Celia Brady Nine-episode adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s unfinished 1941 novel. Brady-American Pictures, the financially struggling 30s era at the peak of the Depression and on the eve of World War II, Hollywood of studio is the center of this series. The production design and goodness, it looks beautiful, the people, the costumes, and a whole seductive world. Better see it on 1080p with big screen. Review not kind to the film. saw 2 yesterday, and thought it was okay. |

Trust Me(August 2017 )
Debuts-August 8-Sept 5, Tues Written by Dan Sefton, a qualified doctor. Jodie Whittaker as Cath Hardacre Blake Harrison as Karl(Cath's ex) Emun Elliott as Andrew Brenner(Colleague) She is whistleblower Cath has been fired from the hospital in she works as a nurse. Jodie Whittaker's character Dr. Ally Sutton is extremely nervous. Understandably hesitant about cutting into patient's bodies. Because she's not really Dr. Ally Sutton at all. She is Cath Hardacre, a nurse and single mum who has stolen a friend's identity and is trying to make it as an impostor doctor. After watching the 2nd episode, Jodie Whittaker she is is warm and watchable. And I would recommend watching it only with subtitles because of the strong British accent. |

The Defenders(2017)
Debuts: Friday, August 18 Format: Hour-long drama(8 episodes) Starring: Mike Colter(Luke Cage), Krysten Ritter( Jessica Jones ), Charlie Cox(Matt Murdock/Daredevil), Finn Jones-(Danny Rand, aka the Iron Fist), Sigourney Weaver(as Alexandra, New York businesswoman) We've had the great (1st seasons of Daredevil and Jessica Jones), the an average of (Luke Cage) and the lows of (Iron Fist). The four heroes now team up to defend New York City against a clan of ninjas. The strength is that it's telling its story in just eight episodes. (Good decision) The show gets off to a slow start and takes three episodes for our heroes to assemble. Weaver play a compelling villian, and tycoon with a lust for world domination create a kind of next-level threat it would take to bring a group of heroes together. Through three of the eight episodes, and still Jessica Jones was the only one that really stood out.Not quite have enough of Ritter. And also would be nice for Jessica to be a bit more than Luke Cage. The shining spots of this show was Daredevil and Jessica Jones so far. Again, Iron Fist the least interesting. Though fight choreography seems much improved but in the pitch dark. I think they don't really know what to do with him ! |

Strike–The Cuckoo’s Calling(UK 2017)
Director- Michael Keillor Stars- Tom Burke, Holliday Grainger Elarica Johnson, Amber Anderson. A quick rundown of this book. The Cormoran Strike series of novels, published under (Harry Potter author) J K Rowling’s pen name Robert Galbraith. Originally a secret project until her cover was blown and she was exposed quickly after publication. The book’s sequel The Silkworm has been adapted into a two-part story set to air in the weeks following to make up the seven episodes. The third novel in the series (2015’s Career of Evil) has already been shot too, and will arrive in the New Year. 1st episode will air on 27 August, 2nd on 28th. Next 3 episodes-3rd, 10th, and 17th September. Last 2 episodes-Air dates not yet announced. War veteran turned private detective Cormoran Strike, Tom Burke (The Musketeers-2014-2016) with his female assistant Robin Ellacott, Holliday Grainger (The Borgias), investigating the death of supermodel Lula Landry(played by real-life model Elarica Johnson) whose fall from a Mayfair balcony has been ruled a suicide by the police. But her foster brother suspects could be murder. The 1st episode is a thoroughly enjoyable watch. Not breathtaking but a solid, entertaining mystery. Holiday Grainger is worth watching, a fine young actress. Not as good as I hoped, will keep on watching as it may get better. |

Top of the Lake: China Girl(Aug-2017)
Directors: Jane Campion(The Piano), Ariel Kleiman Cast: Robin Griffin (Elisabeth Moss-The Handmaid's Tale) Miranda Hilmarson(Gwendoline Christie), "Puss" (David Dencik), Pyke (Ewen Leslie), Alice Englert, Julia (Nicole Kidman)and Mary (Alice Allegra Englert, daughter of Jane Campion) Six 58-minutes episodes. Initially conceived to be a single outing from creators Jane Campion, yet 4 years later a 2nd season! Picks up where the previous season left off. The location of the second season is switched from New Zealand to Sydney, areas around Bondi Beach. When the body of an Asian girl(Cinnamon-packed in a pink suitcase) washes up on Bondi Beach, there appears little hope of finding the killer, until Robin realizes ‘China Girl’ didn’t die alone. Slow to start, enjoyable but with a little disappointed by the second series. David Dencik deserves top honors for his portrayal of Alexander(Puss). Nicole Kidman is typically excellent, but disappointingly underused. "Surrogates in this series are essentially enslaved prostitutes during the first stages of pregnancies. In real world, surrogacy is an accepted means of providing families with a children". |

Star Trek: Discovery(2017)
Stars: Jason Isaacs (Captain Gabriel Lorca) Sonequa Martin-Green(Michael Burnham) Doug Jones-(Lt. Saru) Guest Star-Michelle Yeoh (Captain Georgiou) 15 episodes, weekly. The sixth TV series in the franchise. This series takes place in 2256, 10 years before the events of the original Star Trek series. Begin on the USS Shenzhou, a vessel captained by Philippa Georgiou, mentor to Michael Burnham. While examining a damaged satellite on the edge of Federation space discovers a strange artifact in the middle of an asteroid field. Michael investigates. She meets a Klingon. (Klingon design, they arejust way too over-designed) Things take off from there. Good thing is that I think we do not have to see more of Georgiou character from now. This will provides Burnham’s story with more emotional weight. Martin Green and Yeoh are both experienced actors, we hear some of the stiffest dialogue we’ve heard in a long while. I guess both are doing their best. Burnham, a wonderful character human raised by emotionless Vulcans the way Martin-Green plays it gives her a rare texture. She has a lot of potential, which I think will gives “Discovery’s” writers a lot of interesting psychological territory to explore. I think it’s worth to keep watching to see where Burnham’s journey takes us. After broken up the relationship between the two 'lead' characters in ep 1 and 2. Ep3, I think is going to be a reset of sorts for the series. I'm hoping it gets better. Watched the first two episodes, I didn't think it was that great. but enough to keep me watching....for now. The production values, worthy to watch it on a big TV screen. |

The Brave(US-Pilot 25 Setp.2017)
Created by: Dean Georgaris(Life of Pi) Cast: Anne Heche-Patricia Campbell Mike Vogel-Capt. Adam Dalton (Under The Dome) 13 episodes -Every Monday-45 mins. Originally called For God and Country. The Brave from Israeli producer Avi Nir, who shepherded “Homeland” to American TV. Beginning in Syria, Dr. Kimberly Welles (Alix Wilton Regan) as she’s getting a ride home from her posting with Doctors Without Borders. But when her driver takes an alternate route and then abandons the car, a group with ties to a terrorist organization kidnaps her. Dalton’s team moves swiftly, working off intel from HQ to locate the physician whom has been abducted in order to perform eye surgery on an injured terrorist leader known as Baghdadi. No doubt it's evident that each episode will introduce a mission and the team will more than likely accomplish the mission. The show is watchable, though a bit of a latecomer to the like of “Homeland” dramas that were commissioned a few years ago. Nothing special to set them apart. |

The Gifted(2017)
Premieres Monday, October 2.weekly Creator- Matt Nix Pilot director: Bryan Singer Stars: Emma Dumont(Lorna, aka Polaris), Hayley Lovitt(Sage) Garret Dillahunt(Dr. Roderick Campbell) The Gifted tells two stories that soon merge into one. The 1st, There is Mutant Underground, a group of rebellious mutants on the run from a government. Marcos (Sean Teale) is the leader, a hot-head with a hot hand, coupled up with Lorna (Emma Dumont) and leads a team tracking a new recruit, Clarice (Jamie Chung), who’s also on the run from the cops all by herself. The 2nd, The Strucker family. The father Reed Strucker (Stephen Moyer), the district attorney for 15 years who specializes in prosecuting mutant-related felons spend most of his days interrogating captured mutants. And about to encounter conflicting interests(with Reed's bosses and with the Sentinel Services, an anti-mutant task force with very few governmental restrictions) at home from his younger teen son, Andy (Percy Hynes White) teenage daughter, Lauren (Natalie Alyn Lind) and nurse wife, Kate (Amy Acker) Bryan Singer(director of most of the X-Men movies)is at the helm of this pilot. A really good and solid first episode. It feels like “X-Men” lite( X-Men show with no X-Men) and gave you a feeling that we’ve seen all this before and delivers everything you expect from a show based in the world of the X-Men and nothing more. The Gifted is much better than Inhumans.(Inhumans is worse than bad) |

Lore (2017)
Starting Friday, October 13th Adapted from Boston-based writer, Aaron Mahnke’s very successful podcast (real-life tales of horror, would be witchcraft, and medical malpractice) of the same name. The series is the first narrative based podcast(6 of its 70-some episodes) make into television shows. All the stories are based on true-life events, telling a different tale every episode. Each episode between 39 and 45 minutes. The first episode The story of a farmer named George Brown (Campbell Scott) whose entire family is struck down by Consumption(Medical Definition- An old and once common term for wasting away of the body) in the mid-1800s, and as his son lays dying, his neighbors convince him to exhume the bodies of his children to see if they’re truly and completely dead.Digging up dead bodies, make a tonic out of it to cure the living? Having watched 2 of the season’s six episodes, I found the show is able to turn the inherent creepiness and also you get some good education, very informative and some mythology. The second episode has a plenty subject matter with not as strong as the first. I would suggest to watch it with subtitles for it medical terms. Lore is sometimes scary, but the acting also makes it genuinely intense at times. And although much of it involves the paranormal, sometimes it leave you with questions like, "Was it really a ghost?" |
