Black Mirror
Jon Hamm's interview brought me to this amazing show. When Don Draper says he is jealous about this series you just gotta check it out. Oh boy, I can fully understand why he wants to coitus with a pig. A deranged Twilight Zone updated for present day technology obsessed culture. Loving every bit of it.

black mirror is a brilliant british show. its limited episode, only 6 episodes so far, but basically i love all of it. its kinda a show that 'make your brain working', not just pure entertainment..

So far my favorite episode is "Be Right Back". Very "Her" but more expansive in terms of the story structure.
Hope season 3 will air later this year. biggrin.gif

Houdini - Can’t help but comparing The Knick to Houdini as both are recent shows took place in a similar time period based on actual historic personality. The former have complex stories and deep characterization, but suffers from rather poor production quality. Houdini on the other hand is an overly produced biopic that thinly disguised as a cliche action series with familiar tropes. Can’t stand those CSI-like money shots to over explain his magic trick. Disapointing.

The latest episode of "the knick" is wickedly awesome. Thackery hitting the proverbial rabbit hole as Lucy helplessly suck deeper into their toxic relationship. Clive Owen hasn't been this good since Children of Men. And also that emotional tormenting abortion scene. Everyone's on a path of their own self destruction. Just what the doctor/s prescribed. thumbup.gif

After discovering Matt Berry in "IT World" and "Snuffbox",just realized he has another show of his own right now on BBC. Imagine a less douchey Ricky Gervais but a more buffoonery persona. It's pretty close to a modern Monthy Python,IMO.

Kingdom a solid drama that uses MMA as its canvass but deep down a character study of a dysfunctional family. There's no shortage of interesting characters from the patriarch figure who impose his aspiration on his younger son and restarting the career of another has been prized fighter who could do more damage than good. Then you have a colossal screw-up elder son who might be more than just a stereotypical white trash. A story of broken characters trying to break free from their vicious cycle. The fight is sparse and when it happens, it's brutal and anchor for character development. It's more along the line of Aronofsky's The Wrestler. A very well put cast members from Frank Grillo, who has been on a roll lately,Jonathan Tucker as the unpredictable screw-up son and a rather good subtle performance from Nick Jonas, who is quite a revelation as the rising MMA fighter.

An article in Variety led me to Babylon. A Danny Boyle produced show about the perception machination of a PR department in the UK police force. Kinda interesting as a show. It navigates PR crisis that crept out of nowhere to challenge the public image of the police force. Trigger happy officers, scandalous affairs, bureaucracy politics, etc...make-up most of the case the team need to contain. It was Ok and sorta uses the Sorkin formula. Quick derisive banters and the occasional stupid mistakes that blew out of proportion. I do like some of the clever use of the dark humour during the more serious story development. More like a filler kind of show where you awaits your favorite show to return from hiatus.

Out of the bunch of amazon pilots reveal, the more interesting shows are...
the man in the high castle

An alternate history premise that answers the question of what if Axis power won the WW2. America split into 2 zones being occupied by the German and Japanese. Multiple POV characters navigate the treacherous and dangerous landscape. It's more of a high concept thriller/drama with small amount of sci-fi. Based on a classic Phillip K. d*** book of the same title. So far the unique world kept my interest perk up. Hope it will get into serialization.
mad dogs

A US remake of the interesting premise but frustrating British series. It's a live adaptation of "far cry 3" the game but with middle age man child. Sex, drug baron, illicit money and assassin with a cat mask. So far the pilot is better than the english cousin on the merit of better production quality and easier on the eye casting. Hope it manage to address the wildly uneven pacing issues of the original and introduce fresher story elements.

Have yet to watch Bosch, any good?

American Crime has a lot of potentials. Worth a try. I must stop watching new shows.  laugh.gif

So far it is the best tv show on air for me.Like how they are not pre-judging the characters as each POV stories just superbly written with layers and dimensions. Really surprise to see the treatment of the show very filmic and not tele-drama especially coming from traditional network channel.I would dare say it's even more gratifying than Rectify because there are real progression to unravel the mystery hook.

Bloodline the new netflix drama. Another slow burn of heavy family drama that revolves around the black sheep son returning to the family that does not want him. The hook of the show hinges on a flash forward scene showing the murder of the black sheep son committed by the highly regarded son. Ben Mendelsohn the go to guy for any sleazy and shady role is the reason that draws me to the series. Kyle Chandler as the usual good guy or son in this case who is hiding some serious skeleton in the closet. Pretty good so far until episode 3. Weekend downtime to finish off the remainder.

There is some downtime in the middle where things get draggy. But the last 3 episodes is so worth it. icon_rolleyes.gif

The Missing, Broadchurch, Luthor, The Fall - all from BBC
If you can dig The Wire do give The Honourable Woman a try. It's more of a political thriller and for some weird reason it does remind me a lot of The Wire.

Humans looks promising. Sentient androids plotting revolt or just breaking free from human enslavery. Serious drama revolving people being dependent on the machine or the way round?

By far Mr.Robot is the more enjoyable show on air right now for me.
Hannibal still the prettiest show to gawk at. A little convoluted and a bit self referential. Things are picking up with the latest episode.
Humans a pretty solid sci-fi show with BBC premium stamp of approval.
Halt and Catch Fire a lot more manageable than the season before.
About to start on Deutschland 83 after a client of mine talking non-stop about it.

This will be the last season for Hannible.  They are not renewing it.

Even if it got picked up, they will be on hiatus due to American Gods being confirmed for production. Any continuation of Hannibal gonna be few years down the road. Just what I read from the internet.

Just out, will it succeed on all the failed film adaptations?
