The Preacher 1st episode is pretty awesome...it has that true blood vibe to it and manage to expand characterization beyond what's on the comic books. If you by any chance like the show....you must read the book cause you won't believe what the show gonna be like down the road. Stick for a few more episodes.
Outcast is nice and quite faithful to the ongoing comic book. It's more grounded than Preacher. Will follow the show with interest. It can be a good replacement for the just finished Banshee.
Neil Gaiman's Likely Stories is good with 4 short character studies of 4 different people. Tonally is like Utopia but without the sinister undertones. It also kinda like Black Mirror without the scifi angle. With Neil Gaiman name being used so don't expect the usual kind of formulaic storytelling.
HBO's "The Night of" is very good. Very cinematic and smartly written. Exposition kept to a minimum level and letting the moody scenes driving the narratives. My biggest take out from the series how cold the legal procedure can get and a very filmic representation of being behind bars under dubious circumstances.
Preacher couldn't be what the source materials were all about. Granted the controversial stories and themes still too difficult to pull off. Felt they were hold back by budget and dumbing down the storyline to cater for a wider audience.
Outcast is at the boring phase of The Walking Dead problem. Rather down advancing the storyline, they focus on fleshing the uninteresting character scenes. It's like enduring 2 to 3 uneventful episodes in order to get one good one.
did u guys finish finale season The night of? kinda hanging and need to waiting for next season to find out who kill andrea.....and what really happened that night
Don't think it's that type of show. Should they have a new season, they would go for a different case like the original British show. Already foreshadow Andrea's someone is the prime suspect. The arc ends with Naz getting out of prison with John Stone's glorious closing statement in the court. It's the ambiguous ending they are going after.
Mr.Robot - Season 2 lacks direction and half the time running around like a headless chicken with more plot holes that crippling the overarching storyline. They also overuse the shocking revelation mechanic one too many time and very underwhelming in the payoff.
Stranger Things - A hodgepodge of 80s cinema homage. Influences of Spielberg's Amblin works and coupled with Stephen King earlier writings to make up this pretty entertaining miniseries. A good weekend binge to follow the adventure of goonies meets carrie meets the mist.
Halt and Catch Fire - Each episode grew stronger and more confident. Highlight of the week.
Brain Dead - Reasonable charming and some time funny alien invasion set in the political landscape of US. Good distraction from the cookie cutter of bland network TV comedy.
Narcos - They did a fantastic job of humanizing a monster that shouldn't deserve any sympathy, and yet you wanted to see Pablo able to cheat his ill fated conclusion. A little draggy in the middle and they could have constrained it in one season but felt a little overstaying its welcome. Unsure the Cali Cartel brothers able to match the awesome Wagner Moura performance. Will see how it will go next season.
Designated Survivor - A pretty good pilot episode with enough hooks to want you watching what happen next. Just manage your expectation if you are expecting Kiefer Sutherland to bust out Jack Bauer moves cause this is not that type of show. Will see if it has legs to substitute Homeland or The Americans.
The Berlin Station - An updated "hunting a mole" in the post Snowden era. This is not Jason Bourne kind of spy show but more of John Le Carre types of treatment. So expect navigating the bureaucracy of mind games between shady operatives against each other by exploiting or manipulating ulterior motives of each other. It's slow and methodical so gonna be more than an episode or two to gauge where it's going.
Mr. Robot season 2 finale is way too self indulgent for my liking. At the end of it all it's a 4-6 episodes worth of story being stretched out to a full season. The only thing that kept me watching is White Rose and what she has done to Angela to look out for season 3. Elliott started to become a cliche with predictable traits. Wish they stop referencing Fight Club too much and not become something on its own.
Highlight of season 3 black mirror is the last episode. It does that thought provoking hallmark of a great mystery and unimaginable premise. The rest a little bit here and there, definitely a lot more better than what's on TV currently.
Hugh Laurie's Chance pretty watchable. A psychiatrist deep in marital problems who also had the worst patients with the shittiest psychology issues. He started to care for a sympathetic patient that tips him to take matters into his own hands to serve his brand of justice or is it a ploy to take advantage of his vulnerability?
just finished westworld. its been a long time since i watched this kind of mystery series after Lost. JJ Abrams is good in mind-bending stories. Can suggest me other good series?
Not here to be a correctional nazi, Lost is by Damon Lindelof while Westworld is by Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy. Person of Interest may not be as high concept as westworld but nevertheless engaging. By Nolan and Joy as well. Black Mirror updated Twilight Zone anthology series that revolves around the present day of technology. Utopia a super dark show that did plenty of f-up things. Too bad HBO axed it from David Fincher adapting it. So it's that good to attract Fincher making it. The man in the high castle - Once the ball start rolling after a few episodes, it's addictive. Season 2 about to start soon.
Just the cup of tea I ordered! Dark and violent. It's sorta like "Justify" had a baby with "Banshee". Gonna binge this over the weekend. Respectable score on metacritic and came recommended from my favorite podcast...the slashfilm crew (Ignore Jeff Cannata coz he's the lesser one among the trio.)
Quarry was ok to watch cause only 8 episodes. Two parallel plot-lines running the course of the show. The good part is all the killing and murdering orchestrated by the enigmatic Broker. The violence is gnarly beyond HBO standard. Broker is a fascinating character who is behind the scene running a network of colorful contract killers. He's like Littlefinger manipulating the shit out of everyone. The bad is the lead actor PTSD story felt cliche and drag the show down in the beginning and middle. Then episode 8 happens which hits like a truck on why he is so broken. Cinemax being the sister company of HBO, expect plenty of sexy time. Watch the show solely for Broker who really the reason to stick with the show.
Sneaky Pete looks ok as a filler show in between the big guns.
I like Sneaky Pete quite a bit once the set-up in place and just ride along for the con job that being staged. Just read it got picked up for 2nd season. Bryan Cranston need to start choosing his roles without repeating himself too much. Here he is predictable and almost gone to mustache twirling villain.
