Just finished watching the pilot of Tyrant and i'm totally hooked. This got the godfather feel to it as well having the top notch homeland production value all over it. Loving the cast and performances so far. Can't wait for EP2.
Also watched The last ship over the weekend and it's really campy. Acting is stiff and some scenes offends common sense. I'll pass on this one.

QUOTE(stormlcc @ Jul 2 2014, 03:51 PM) Tyrant is quite ok, downsides are it has the typical american family - someone always has the "American biatch syndrome" but this time it's the son, and also an annoying wife. but all my wish come true - the father biatch slapping that gay son of his, totally makes my day! Not one but the two slaps and it was epic! You could almost feel the homo being slapped outta him lol. Not that i have anything against gay but that scene really stunned me in a good way But yeah, the family is another typical naive american family - almost a carbon copy of Brody's family in Homeland with the addition of the gay son. I think they are supposed to resemble or at least loosely based on the Syrian Asaad family.

Also out last week is HBO's Leftovers pilot. Series based on rapture i think ? It's kinda decent but not entirely mindblowing - didn't feel like it gripped me or left me wanting for more, but hopefully ep 2 will pick up the pace.
And Recitfy season 2 is up and already 2 eps in. I enjoyed it and glad it's been extended to 10 eps this season.

QUOTE(stormlcc @ Jul 6 2014, 09:10 AM) if its a super low budget series with 10 seasons like Stargate SG-1 then i understand, but i doubt this series is SUPER low budget (it's got a lambo in it for farks sake) OR have anything close to 10 seasons. i'd be surprised if it even reaches 3 seasons. The US audience is the bread and butter for shows like this so i suspect the series will involve the Americans at some point. I don't just mean the family but the US government coming in to meddle or influence Barsham.

QUOTE(stormlcc @ Jul 6 2014, 12:53 PM) yeah. i assume most americans don't know how to read english (which is true btw), so the show's producers just don't want to put any subtitles in it. Yeah pretty sad how most people would sooner watch films or series in dubbed voices than reading subtitles. And you are right that perhaps there are some illiterate americans who wont be able to read subtitles.

QUOTE(dundermifflin @ Jul 8 2014, 09:15 AM) probably too late to mention this, fargo.. watched 3 episodes and i love it.. sort of black comedy.. hope they renew it. Fargo is amazing. Absolute gem of a tv show. The casting is spot on and the writing is sublime. I love how the series has somehow managed to capture the heart and soul of Coen bro's Fargo and then made it their own. Amazing feat that.

QUOTE(stormlcc @ Jul 8 2014, 04:14 PM) even if they renew it the entire cast will be different with a different story They could do a prequel about Marvo or the time when the story leap forward towards the end of the series .. i think there was a 8 months gap or something ? But i don't mind if it's a completely different story altogether.

QUOTE(stormlcc @ Jul 8 2014, 05:56 PM) we don't NEED another Marvo story or prequel or anything related to the first season because » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « it has the perfect ending already. if they do anything related to S1 they may spoil or even ruin it. concentrating all their effort on another new story is the best bet for S2.
for S1 of Fargo, in the middle of the series we really hope things turn up well for our beloved characters, but we have a reserved feeling towards them because just about anyone will die in this series. this is what's so good about Fargo, u'll never know what happens until the end. Like i said, i don't mind if it's an entirely new story with new cast. But equally, i wouldn't mind seeing a prequel and mostly because i can't get enough of Thornton's Malvo But i suppose you are right in that Malvo's story should be left as is - as the lack of his background and mysterious character all adds up to his enigmatic persona.

Tyrant has lost a bit of its appeal to me with it's latest ep. It's gone somewhat soapy for my liking. Was hoping to see more of Bassam and less of Barry.

QUOTE(fotosintesis @ Jul 19 2014, 12:28 AM) cant comprehend that much, not an inch even by by gooogl-ing " soapy drama" what is it actually in terms of drama? all these 6month, im starting to enjoy breaking habit, fargo, suits, hiym alot GoT wasnt cup of tea, any other series that ive missed in this life? Haha it really just means soap drama like Dallas, The bold and beautiful etc. I'm probably just exaggerating but i can't help be reminded of those nonsensical soap operas. Mostly due to the cliched characters, things going back and forth like the wife being this typical housewife with no real purpose other than being there for pillow talk or something, or Barry getting into a routine of helping his brother out of his predicament, and etc. As for other shows .. check out House of cards and Penny Dreadful if you haven't seen them.

QUOTE(zachozoi @ Aug 5 2014, 08:19 PM) Drama about the pioneers of the science of human sexuality and the story about how humans mate and revolutionary study about sex and story about doctor Dr. William Masters who did research about human sexuality, male and female orgasms.. quiet interesting drama Sounds like there's a lot of sex in this series I'll check out the pilot later tonight.

A new medical drama series The Knick directed by Soderbergh and featuring Clive Owen has kicked off. Getting some good reviews and has already been renewed for second season with 10 episodes. Can't wait to watch it later tonight. QUOTE In New York City in 1900, the Knickerbocker Hospital operates with innovative surgeons, nurses and staff who have medicinal limitations to prevent staggeringly high mortality rates. Dr. John Thackery, the newly appointed leader of the surgery staff, battles his cocaine and opium addictions with his ambition for medical discovery and reputation among his peers. Harvard graduate Dr. Algernon Edwards must fight for respect within the all-white-populated hospital, as well as the racially charged city. While literally struggling to keep the lights on, the hospital attempts to attract a wealthy clientele, without sacrificing quality care.

I gave up on Tyrant after 3rd or 4th episode. I picked up The Honorable Woman and it's so much better. I binged watched all 6 episodes and loved it. This is a lot closer to Homeland in terms of spies and espionage. Maggie Gyllenhaal's performance is absolutely stunning - her British accent sounds really natural, never knew she had that in her.

QUOTE(MatchesMalone @ Aug 17 2014, 05:57 PM) Surprisingly coming from Cinemax, its not trashy at all like Banshee(And I like that show too). Very minimal nudity and profanity. And well done too. Love the early 20th century set. Yeah i'm loving it. Kinda reminds me House, but darker and atmospheric. Combined with the techno beat, it kinda gives the show a rather unusual and unique tone.

Watched/watching few gems lately.
Gomorra - An Italian Camorra (similar to the mafias but different in structure) series. Not sure if it's based on the same named film but i enjoy the series a whole lot more. It's fueled by near constant thrills and suspense. Overall, i'd say it's quite dark, intense and gritty. Amazing locales, it's in Europe so it's something different from the usual US scenery we have grown used to seeing. The performances are amazing and camera work is top notch. I had zero expectation and now i look forward to it every week religiously. Quite frankly, it's one of the best tv shows i've ever watched. You're the worst - Was looking for something to the edge off Gomorra and this was recommended to me. Loved it. I found it quite refreshing, cute and funny. The 2 leads have such amazing chemistry together. Looking forward to S2.
Broad City - Up to EP4. I find the show strangely addictive. It's not exactly my type of show but i just can't get enough of both Abbi and Ilana. Particularly, the latter who has this knack of being hot and gross at the same time haha.

QUOTE(6so @ Oct 13 2014, 08:37 AM) The latest episode of "the knick" is wickedly awesome. Thackery hitting the proverbial rabbit hole as Lucy helplessly suck deeper into their toxic relationship. Clive Owen hasn't been this good since Children of Men. And also that emotional tormenting abortion scene. Everyone's on a path of their own self destruction. Just what the doctor/s prescribed. That's great news since i've stopped watching it a few weeks back. Not intentionally but rather lost track of things haha. But dude get your hands on Gomorra if you haven't seen it. Both the film and the tv series, i recommend watching the film first to fully appreciate the neapolitan culture and the camorra syndicate.

QUOTE(zachozoi @ Oct 24 2014, 05:26 PM) bro looking for a new series to watch and gomorra have good reviews, so going to start watch this weekend in one night, so does the movie is a must watch before the tv series or its kinda prequel?? It's not related in terms of plots and characters. You can watch the film before or after. The tv series is miles better in terms of thrill and suspense. I would watch the film if you want to enrich the experience of watching the tv series. From what i understand, the film did well to encapsulate the neapolitan and comorra way of life but it is rather slow and uneventful for most part so may not be for everyone. But i still enjoyed it nonetheless. Anyways the finale was aired earlier this week. Mind = blown. Enjoy it bro.
